Controller DJs! Don’t Spin On CDJs Until You’ve Checked These 5 Settings

Pioneer CDJs can be found in club and bar DJ booths around the world. CDJs make it easy to switch between DJs throughout the night but sharing a DJ set-up with other DJs can present its own problems if you are not too familiar with them - especially if you're coming to CDJs from controllers.
CDJs provide controls to customise some of the functions which could trip you up if you prefer certain settings and you don’t check them before you start playing.
Be sure to check these five things before you drop your first track to avoid any unwanted surprises.

If you like to mix fast and use to loading tracks quickly make sure you adjust the "load deck" to unlock. just in case you forget to add it to your export drive settings.

YOU CAN HAVE ANY OF THE NEXUS PLAYERS(900NXS/2000NXS XDJ etc) IN VINYL MODE AND BY USING THE BEVELED AND PITTED SIDE OF THE JOG WHEEL, CAN STILL UTILIZE THE PITCH BEND W/O STOPPING THE TRACK...Im real surprised this wasnt mentioned here!

I love these. Prefer vinyl mode! If I may add on, I also usually like have quantize on and quantize effects on the mixer.

Yes and how?? Please explain bro. Last time at a gig i used the jog wheel from the sides and the track skipped instead of blending. Whats the closest setting to a turntable.? Please thanks man

Compared to any controller CDJ's has virtually no personal settings that can throw you off. Most of them you will set in Rekordbox and load when you plug your RB'd USB in the player. Only the first gen. RB compatible CDJ's doesn't have that and you manually have to set your preferred settings. If you're an aspiring club DJ and have never seen or used a couple of CDJ's, I'd recommend buying a couple of used ones. At least here in Sweden they cost peanuts now, at least up to the CDJ-1000Mk3. You get a pair of those in good condition for less than 200 buck. The other week I couldn't resist buying a couple of Pioneer CDJ-200's and a DJM-300, complete in a case for 50 buck. Manufactured in 2003. Of all the models I have owned and used, the CDJ-200 I had never seen other than on KZfaq, so it was fun to play on them, and they were absolutely in perfect condition, and mp3 compatible, just as the CDJ-1000Mk3. No waveform though, but that makes them perfect for practice beat matching :) . I recorded a set, and captured most of it on video... except for when the phone dropped down on the floor... Maybe I'll put it up on my channel :) .

You are correct that things like master tempo and pitch range can be adjusted in Rekordbox, but things like start/stop time and reverse are hardware controlled by the cdj.

B.T.W.! Buck in this case are not SEK, but rather US$ or UK£ or EUROs' for that matter :) . They are all pretty equal to the Swedish SEK. The setup cost me 600 SEK, and the hard case is probably half the cost, as it is a universal case that will fit any combo of similar gear, like 2 XDJ-700/DJM-450. If I stretch it with a little imagination, I paid 20-25 buck for the case and 10 buck for each piece of gear :) .

If for some reason you prefer to control your DVS with a CDJ via timecode and not HID, make sure that the Master Tempo light is off.

No I don't believe so, you have to be in vinyl mode to disable it

As a vinyl dj i still find it hard to understand all these features. Honestly i still dont understand the master temple button exactly does. My main question is which settings would fit best to resemble a turntable? I still throw tracks in by hand and not buttons. Please help. I have yet to by a cdj since i have a small ddj ergo controller.

Just ignore all the features that don't speak to you - all DJ controllers/media players can be used in a very simple way, just like spinning vinyl.

@@digitaldjtips as in, if I use a software for my cdj can I play 4 tracks at once without having 4 cdjs? And I have seen all of them have 4 left and right outputs for each channel.

You'll still only be able to control one deck per each CDJ, the CDJs only have a single output and if you mean the mixer these are inputs not outputs, 2 speakers is all you need

I’m using a controller at the moment. And started using my buddy’s 2000s but I notice my tracks play out of sync I understand tracks aren’t perfectly at the same time and I’ve tried to beat match but even when I do that. It still spins out of sync. Can anyone help? I’m thinking maybe I just need to practice beat matching more. But maybe I’m doing something wrong?

LOL...or you could not be a diva and rock a party on any gear you are presented with, especially the INDUSTRY STANDARD gear :P What happens when an opportunity to DJ arises and your gear is not accessible? Do you miss out because you refuse to adapt like a pro would?
