I could watch them without commentary, but it is more interesting if they bring up topics and speak their minds. At times they also have some interesting backstories or details to tell. - It definitely adds some value spending time on these long presentations. - I must admit that I often watch these at a bit higher playback speed, though... It's funny, cause at about 1.20x it looks like the games are performing amazingly well. Doesn't help that sometimes I forget it's sped up and I actually believe I'm seeing games run at about 60fps, which... no way.

They kept referring to it as a "computer" and saying "computer entertainment" as to bypass certain country region laws where "gaming consoles" were strictly prohibited and Sony couldn't enter that market to sell, hence the reason Sony had linux installed on the ps3 for a while... I forget which country or countries, but yes, that happened...

Sony also tried to claim the PS2 was a computer so they didn't have to pay the video game console import tax in Europe. They released some software programming tools on demo discs to "prove" that it wasn't a game console. It didn't work but the EU ended up getting rid of the console tax anyway.

I remember being excited until the price was revealed back then. Months later Gamestop had a used ps3 for sale and the associate wasn't sure if it was the 20gb or 60gb model. One way to tell the diffence was the 60gb model had the disc area chrome. Right off the bat I said 20gb and they sold me the 60gb model for 400. Fun time back then.

That associate is stupid Lol It was pretty obvious which one was the 60gb and 20gb. First one was all blacked out and dull looking and the other had chrome touches. If I remember even the boxes were very different too, that associate was probably that shift lol

I'd love to see you guys cover some old GDC keynote addresses too, like Satoru Iwata from 2005 and 2006. Those in particular are fascinating to go back to and watch nowadays.

There were times when it felt I was watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with John, Alex and Rich riffing on Sony's presentation. The question is who was playing Tom Servo and who was Crow?

11:48 I miss old Sony when it was older Japanese guys in charge but that all changed once Naughty Dog and other western devs at Sony completely out shined anything Sony Japan Studio could produce, then Sony moved their headquarters from Tokyo to California and that was it! Watching the demo of Warhawk and seeing the single player campaign with those aerial battleships was amazing back in 2006 and then all of that got taken out and it was only a multiplayer game...that was a huge letdown for me. The game was still great but I wanted the single player so bad

"real-time weapon change" I also remember this one. What a great feature that's only possible on our powerful ps3? It's like... the presenter never played a game or don't know how game is made...

Personally, I just want "Heavenly Sword [Remastered]". And a "[New] Heavenly Sword II". And "Heavy Rain 2 +Heavy Rain 2 [Move Edition]", while they're at it... 🤔 Hmm..., then, I also want "Singularity 2" & "Vanquish 2". 😁

@@secoTheSonicFan Sadly I have to agree. What really let it down was the severe lack of replay value coupled with the somewhat forgettable store line. Shame too as it has killer production values and the visuals at the time were second to none. Even if it got a remake in the future they really need to add a bunch of content to make the package seem meaty

Still surprised how they even made best GTA5 pastgen version and exclusives graphics with PS3's 256 MB of operative and video memory. This is some kind of top tier optimisation. DF team, you need to revisit all PS3 exclusives again in video format. God, I still remember how did I read your and lensoftruth articles back in 2009-2012.

I loved the idea of "Photo Mode: The Game" when they showed it. I never got around to it, but I do remember seeing this. - The unfortunate part today is, it wouldn't look good enough to be a game based on visuals, as in creating pictures. - I mean, you'd better have the best of the best graphics to make it ABOUT creating pictures, as Photo Mode in full-fledged games is of course just extra stuff to do and perhaps also appreciate the visuals. - But to have just about that, it should look really interesting or also have interesting additional features that make it interesting. Like upgrading your gear or unlocking locations. Heck, make it kind of like real life that you have to sell your pictures and make money to travel farther or something. - It would almost be like one of those hunting games, but then not about murder.
