The Polara was my first reverb pedal and I absolutely love it. I was having a hard time finding the RV-7 so I just went with the polara. Has a lot of great modes for dreampop. The halo setting is flawless.

i just got my polara yesterday and fell in love with it the minute i played the first note. paired with my bad monkey and my memory boy deluxe, this thing produces enormous sounds. would definitely buy again! nebenbei letzte woche noch einen downhill willows sticker im haus 73 in der schanze gesehen, schade um das projekt.

Hey Kenneth, not sure if you're aware but DigiTech and Hardwire are one in the same, they're the same company. Hardwire is to DigiTech like Squier is to Fender. The Supernatural pedal was actually made by both DigiTech and Hardwire, so you can find them made by both companies. Although, I can't seem to find any differences mechanically or sonically between the two versions. Also since the Polara claims to use the same Lexicon reverbs as the RV-7, it's seems to be the exact same pedal other than they switched out the gated reverb for the halo reverb which is basically their version of a shimmer reverb. I actually own a Polara and personally find the halo reverb to be underwhelming and prefer the gated reverb from the RV-7 so I guess the RV-7 gets my vote. That old Digiverb is an interesting pedal though, especially for someone on a budget looking for decent shoegaze tones.

I now own the digiverb and the RV-7... I understand how annoying the volume drop is on the Digiverb and the lack of a dry mix knob on the rv-7, however both do sound great... I'd like to hear your opinion: Do I sell both of these and get something else that does Reverse/Gate just as well or do I keep both of these!? I don't love the digital screen on the Zoom / doesn't seem great for a live setting, but is it worth learning?

I've owned three of the four and have researched the Polara. Just my opinion but if I ranked them 1) RV7 2)Supernatural 3)Polara 4)Digiverb. Digiverb may be last but still an excellent pedal!

It looks like you were comparing the reverse reverbs with the tail switch ON for the RV7 and the tail switch OFF on the Polara? They sounded different to me and it could be because of the tail switch?

I personally use the RV7 by Digitech / Hardwire. It has a high quality and the most original so as usefull sound and it's not to huge on a board.

Hey there, I can't buy a Polara because it's out of budget for me, also I couldn't find a second hand RV-7 and buying a new one is expensive too. However I've found a second hand Digiverb and I have enough money for that. What do you recommend; saving money for Polara - RV-7 or buying the Digiverb?

RV7 beats them all for me personally. Because of Reverse and Gate Reverb.

I got the Polara (same reverse verb circuit as the discontinued RV-7) after seeing your 'small budget' video because in your vid it sounded like it would have a wet/dry blend knob due to your pick hitting the strings so loud! I was super disappointed as without the dry signal in the mix the pedal for me is useless live. But I soon discovered the other sounds on Polara are absolutely amazing for ambient stuff, also the traditional verb types are very good quality. I even prefer the 'spring' setting on Polara to my Fender Blues Jr's spring reverb. Now I got the Digiverb for reverse/gated (it's great, especially gated) and have it in front of drive pedals with the Polara as the last pedal in the chain to add trails - sounds great to me. As much as I love jamming with sounds and pedals etc, I think also a big issue is getting too deep into that side of music and not enough the technical side. Would be cool to see an intro video to recording/mixing shoegaze and ambient style dreampop guitar. Get the bedroom shoegazers recording and sharing their music to spread the word!

im going for the hardwire. i have a tc electronics hall of fame but it doesnt have a reverse feature on it. sounds fine though. but need that reverse! but if you have any suggestions for a non reverse reverb pedal let me know thanks!

Anyone try running the RV7 in reverse using both outputs? I wonder if the dry signal is available via the 2nd output.

The second output is only for stereo operation in all modes. The pedal has very cool reflections when used in stereo and even increase the gain a little when reflections overlaps between them.

Dude, could you tell me with which power supply you connect the digitech digiverb? I recently bought one and I can't find the specs to power it. Is it a 9v pedal with negative center as it usually is? how many mA does it need?

I simply used a Boss power supply. I can't find the mA in the manual but it shouldn't need more than between 100-300 mA.

@@berlinshoegazer I appreciate your advice :), I just saw your video about Zoom MultiStomp and it seemed very interesting, although I would not have liked it to be more shimmer effect, if you could help me a bit with this please, I'm addicted to the last slowdive album that came out in 2017 and researching I saw that the three guitars use the wetneunaber and that is why I hooked up to that high quality shimmer layer, now my question is: supernatural or the caverns (these two I can get them in 150dls) or zoom more -50 (I can get it in 100dls, I did not find the ms70) ??? or flat out to go for a wetneunaber of 230dls? considering that I already have the dihitechrv7 . On the other hand as I buy some estiquers cat with tongue and like the one you have on your guitar cat with candy? I'm from Mexico City, thank you very much

@@manualofalternativemusic In the time since I asked the question I bought and sold Oceans 11. Deadbeat was never an option due to pedalboard constraints. Oceans 11 is very good, but it made me realise 2 things. First, it's not the reverse reverb that's essential for shoegazey sound, it's the placement of reverb before the overdrive! I wanted to have the spring+plate+reverse reverb effects in one pedal. And 99% of the time I use the classic reverb tones, which need to be at the end of the chain. Moving the pedal back and forth on the board is impractical. So you need a dedicated pedal for dirty ambient reverb before your gain stages. So I moved my Walrus Slo there. With mix at 100% wet it's as good as a reverse reverb, and on top of that the modulation in the reverb sort of creates a Jazzmaster whammy-like effect. Secondly, pedals with lots of sounds and hidden functions like Oceans 11 may be a great studio tool (that thing sounds stunning), but with no presets or a midi controller in most playing situations you're stuck with one sound, because dialling other things in just takes too long!

Hey Jun. I like the polara most as it's so space saving and high quality sounding. If you have a chance to buy a Hardwire RV7 I would go for that. As it has a nice reverse and gated reverb too.

i have a digiverb and well... when it comes to reverse, it isn't that good, at least for me. i feel it kinda kills the guitar sign. plus, i see that you used all of them in mono, which for the digiverb works a lot better than in stereo but i have to tell it's nice to play with the gated effect in the digiverb ps: nice review man!

Yeah, the Digiverb has a super cool Gated sound. I also wish the Reverse Reverb of the RV7 would mix the sound with the dry signal.

This is a good idea. CDR-70/MS-50G (updated with all the CDR-70 sounds) is a crazy good value and contains so many awesome sounds options for a shoegaze fan, plus it's highly tweakable.

Cool, looking forward to it as ever! (I'm actually thinking of replacing my RV-7 with my MS-50G on my board, as I think the Gated and Reverse options on the MS-50G are actually based on the RV-7, and it can do so much more -- including act as a tuner! But I'll have to do a side-by-side comparison of the Gated modes on the two pedals before I know if it really stacks up.)

After having done some testing, the Gated Reverb setting on the (updated) MS-50G / CDR-70 is _extremely_ close to the Gated setting on the RV-7. I haven't compared the Reverse but I would expect that it's also very close to the RV-7. I think I'm actually going to replace the RV-7 with my MS-50G on my board, since I would be able to use the latter not only for Gated Reverb, but also to replace my tuner, compressor, phaser and flanger (the latter two being effects I don't really use all that often). It's a really useful little device!

Cue Zephyr You can get the gated reverb w/ same quality the boss Rv-5 and the Hof. Both are great options and for about the same price (hof) or even less money (Boss)

Cue Zephyr You’re welcome mate! Yeah gated reverb is a classic type of reverb that hasn’t actually been used by players that are into other genres of music, and I think that’s the reason why newer pedals don’t have a gated preset (like the boss rv-6 or the polara for ex). But it’s possible to chase it down on older pedals. Even the Behringer line of reverbs has a Boss rv5 copy with this sort of reverb on it. I also started looking for other pedals due to the rising prices of the RV-7 hahaha I run my Rv-5 through a Hoof fuzz. Gets the job done really well!
