Great point about the string feel and tension. The very thick gauge strings needed on a 24.5" scale guitar to get to DropB or lower (12-56 or thicker) are harder to fret and bend and are not as responsive under the fingers as say 10's or 9's. And good point about the dissonance if you are not loud enough on the amp or do not use headphones. I'll be getting one of these myself now - as I wanted to try lower tunings but was wary of the added setup.

Topic related, I've recorded a jam with the octave setting the other day and send it to my bass player friend. He said it doesn't sound like a bass but was very impressed by the sound quality. He told me it's good that it's not a bass sound otherwise my amp speaker would be blown up by now. I personally hated downtuning my FR guitar for just a couple of songs and this pedal solved the issue. I also think E standard sounds more tight for metal and a good bass player should take care of his part but hey that's just my view.
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 3 жыл бұрын
the octave setting still sounds a bit strange to me but yes it's well made. The tightness of the sound for metal mainly depends upon your string gage. With some 10-46 you'd better stay in standard E for sure, but if you move to 10-52, E flat and Drop D sound very tight too ;)
@necurrence1776
@necurrence1776 3 жыл бұрын
@@ToroKchannel you're right. I've been using 10-46 all this time which loses the tightness when downtuned. It looks like 10-52 should be the way to go for me. Thank you

Very good video. Just one doubt: In an "extreme" case, with a 6 string guitar if I want to go down to standard A, do you think it would sound better lowering the Drop to 7 semitones (with the guitar previously in standard E) or would it sound more natural/fuller lowering it by itself? 5 semitones with the Drop (in this case with the guitar tuned in standard D)? PS: I also forgot to add what opinion you have about the "Shift Up" option to raise several tones in certain songs (because for example my guitar does not have 24 frets and it is an impediment to play several solos) and if it would be better to use the part of the Whammy or the part of the "Shift Up". And the same in the case of lowering the pitch, I was wondering if the Whammy sounded better or in this case the Drop would sound more appropriate. Thank you so much.
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel Жыл бұрын
You've got to know that I have recorded this video with a 5W valve head. Thanks to the compression, I've almost got the same tone with the drop as if I tune the axe down. Now, I'm using a PRS MT 15 head, and it's got much more headroom than its 15W suggests. It's not far away from a 50W. With this head, I really sense the difference very clearly with the drop even with just 1 semitone. So going to 7 semitones would sound very very strange, and super dark. If you've got a presence knob on your amp, you can push it up in order to compensate but at some point, it won't be enough. I have not tried the Whammy so far, but I will probably review it someday. Hope it helps :)

Every video I have seen... it’s demod playing alone. Where do you put the pedal at for the best tone. I put it at the beginning of the distortion pedal chain and it sounds like organs playing with it when I drop any. Octave setting sounds ok. Then I put it in front of the delay and reverb on the send/ return chain and it sounds like organs playing but not as bad and octave sounds better. What am I doing wrong cos I would hate to think I bought a $200 pedal for nothing .....
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 3 жыл бұрын
Digitech recommands that you plus The Drop in front of the amp, and it should be the first of your pedals in the signal chain. You say you paid $200 for this pedal ? Are you talking about canadian $ or US $ ? Sounds very expensive to me, here in France I can currently find it for 88€ on Thomann.

Very informative, thanks! I'd love to get one, but the fact with the odd sound difference between the Standard tuned acoustic string sound and the dropped amp sound scaress me off. I'm mainlay playing at low volume sitiing in front of my amp...
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Well if you play at low volume with your amp you will hate this pedal for sure. That's its main limit, and it's really too bad cos' it will stop many people from having fun with this thing but in the other hand I really can't imagine any solution to avoid that dual tune effect.
@soumavbose8780
@soumavbose8780 4 жыл бұрын
I think if the amp has a headphone input... Then you might be able to isolate the dry tone to a large extent if not fully. Isolate as in in your headphone you will listen only the dropped tune...

So I can just have my guitar on standard and this pedal I’ll make it sound like drop c or whatever?
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 3 жыл бұрын
not completely. If your guitar is in standard E, with this pedal, you can play in Standard Eb or D or C# and so on until standard A. If you want some drop tuning, you have to set your axe in tune in drop D, and so you can sound like you were in drop C#, drop C... Until drop G.

I want to buy this pedal, but I heard from lot of users saying after 4 semitones down the sound will be muddy etc.. So I am wondering if that 4 semitones are in general or it depends also which is your current tuning? For example if I am in D standard I can go 4 semitones down without affecting the tone or the tone will worsen after only 2 semitones as it will be already 4 semitones down from E standard?
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 4 ай бұрын
The tuning of your guitar doesn't really matter. What you must pay attention to is the string tension. If you're in standard D with some 10-46 gauge, your strings are too loose and you will hear it very clearly from 2 semitones on. It does start sounding a bit muddy from 3 semitones on, and it goes worse if you go below, even with an appropriate string gauge. You've also got to know that this Drop Pedal will swallow a part of your high end, so you might need to push the presence knob (if you have one) higher than usually. If you want to use this on a 6 strings in E standard to sound like a baritone in B standard, you will be disappointed for sure. But if you wanna use it, for instance, on a guitar in drop D to go down to drop C and play some BFMV (something I'm doing pretty often), you will enjoy it a lot !

@@ToroKchannel Thank you for such detailed response. Let me tell you what exactly I want to do. I have guitar in E standard for which I want to play in semitone lower with this pedal and I have a 26.5 inch scale guitar with 10-46 gauge in standard D for which I want to use the pedal to go to standard C. So should this pedal be good for mentioned cases? Thank you.
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel 4 ай бұрын
@@rubenhovhannisyan9633 E standard to 1 semitone below ? That would work easily. Standard D to standard C should be ok too but your 10-46 string gauge is very light for standard D. I guess you feel comfortable but maybe you should try some 11-49 or 10.5-48 (Ernie ball is doing that unusual string gauge and it feels good). But I think it will work anyway.
