The Nzeogwu Coup was a WESTERN COUP (led by Western Igbo and their Yoruba collaborators) to halt Fulani castration of Western Region (declaring a state of emergency, rigging out and imprisoning Awo). According to Awo's Private Sec (Odia Ofeimun - his video is on youtube), the aim of the coup was to make Awo Nigeria's leader. That the coup was to save you (the Yoruba) is explained in his book 'Why We Struck', by Major Ademoyega, who stated that the D-day had to be brought forward, in order to prevent a total over-run of the West which had already been decided by the Balewa-led govt. That is why all the four principal antagonists of Awo (Sardauna, Balewa, Akintola & Fani-Kayode) were targeted and no single pro-Awo personality was harmed. I am almost certain that you have neither read 'Why We Struck', nor the book "Nzeogwu" by Obasanjo (Nzeogwu's best friend) where the same reason is given for the coup. It was this same coup carried out for Awo's sake that eventually led to the civil war. And Awo whom the coupists were rooting for became the arrow-head of the death of 3 million Igbo.
