Amoeba Sisters

Күн бұрын

This video will show how to set up and solve everyone's favorite 16 square Punnett square. Example solves a two trait (two factor) test cross which can then be useful for solving a dihybrid cross on our handout here: www.amoebasisters.com/handouts... This video uses vocabulary that was previously defined in the Amoeba Sisters Monohybrid Crosses video.
The Amoeba Sisters videos demystify science with humor and relevance. The videos center on Pinky's certification and experience in teaching biology at the high school level. For more information about The Amoeba Sisters, visit: www.amoebasisters.com/about-us...
REFERENCE:
We cover the basics in biology concepts at the secondary level. If you are looking to discover more about biology and go into depth beyond these basics, our recommended reference is the FREE, peer reviewed, open source OpenStax biology textbook: openstax.org/details/books/bi...

Card Note: At 4:50, we made a card edit that this example is a "test cross" two-trait cross as to be a true dihybrid cross, both parents should be heterozygotes. However, *the steps to solve two-trait crosses are the same* whether the two-trait cross is is a true dihybrid cross (meaning 2 heterozygote parents). See our handout for a true dihybrid cross with two heterozygous parents: www.amoebasisters.com/handouts.html We appreciate an email we received about this topic- thank you! :D If we redo this older video, we will make a point to specify the differences.

I dont quite understand 5:50 where all letters in the side are in lowercase. Could you please elaborate more on the idea? And if so, are there cases where there are uppercase and lowercase letters in the side? Because in a 2x2 punnett square, the sides' are usually different, for instance an 'S' and 's' combo, so why doesn't it apply in a 4x4 or more?

According to the pet food company Candidae, cats enjoy the cold, hard basin of a sink because it helps them cool off. If it's warm outside or if you have the heater on inside, your pet may see your sink as a nice respite from the heat.

By definition, a dihybrid cross is between two individuals both heterozygous for two traits and produces the 9:3:3:1 ratio. In this example, one parent is homozygous for both traits. The example here is essentially a backcross, the crossing of a hybrid individual with one of its homozygous parents. But it is still a good example of how to do a two-trait cross.
