@Pamela Renee Coulter-Pinal He's a grown man, who already hit puberty a long time ago, most men can't even scream without their voices cracking. And, it's different from what "pre-teen girls" do. You wouldn't know, because you're just sitting behind a screen. You're not appreciating how long it took him to control that and put vibrato in it. The fact that it's difficult for most women to even hit a d8 let alone hold it for five seconds with control and vibrato makes sense. But, what doesn't make sense is how a grown-ass man managed to pull it off amazingly. If it's not a musical note, who cares? The thought and effort put in to it matters.

@Pamela Renee Coulter-Pinal I think I get it, Dimash is a tried a tru vocal technician, He hits all the registers, but the heart. He's a contest singer and lacks the emotional range to pull at your heart strings in a level we can all relate to. He has other worldly skills, but a lack of connection. Performance sure, but that high D8 does nothing for me in a relate able way . I vibe with singers I can relate to.

You may have noticed that the D8 was preceded by a missing note that should have lead to, and make the whistle note in alignment with the composition. It's a high note that's not always available in one's chords. (It didn't come out during 'The Singer' performance). You may give a listen to the song 'My Homeland' when the note makes perfect sense.

Drew, As you were meandering on about how it wasn't reasonable to expect anything new and spectacular in Dimash's bag of tricks, my family and I (who were at supper, and watching you) were having a good chuckle, since we knew that later in this same song he would achieve the "whistle note." I think the name of the note is D8. It occurs when the vibrations are just right for them to switch from ordinary sound, to that piercing whistle. It IS an actual note, and Dimash loves to reach it; he probably was in very good spirits the rest of the evening. His friends and family tend to worry when they know he's going to try for it. You see, he almost destroyed his voice, singing very high notes, and spent a day in the hospital, unable to speak. That night, he did do a concert, and the audience had no idea that although he could sing, he could not talk. Lots of people thought the consequences might mean the end of his singing career. The doctors worked all afternoon on it, treating it with liquid gold, but that old stand-by didn't work, and he continued with a high fever and no speaking voice. Those close to him were frantic, fearing that it was all over. But he performed that night (with a reduced program) and only later did we learn what a close thing it had been. I continue to think that either he, or his fans, push him too hard. He has a reputation for pushing himself mercilessly, mainly because he just loves singing, working hard, and surpassing his boundaries. Your reactions seem well-intended but for some reason lacking in appreciation for the fact that much of what Dimash does, is not considered humanly possible, without some special gifts. It's not that he has had something artificial installed. He doesn't have anything artificial. He sings with the gifts he was born with, although he has practiced, honed and sharpened the skills he was born with, working ALMOST inhumanly hard, in order to achieve effects that range from the space alien to the angel. Which reminds me, when you were watching "Love is like a Dream," you turned off the machine when he was in the process of singing a 15-second "run," resulting in the rest of us being deprived of that treat. You also spoke during the "transformation" segment (the most-loved 30 seconds in any of his work, where he appears to be transforming into an angel.) In 78 years I believe that's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen or heard, and you distracted from it so that I had to go back and play it without reactors. I don't believe the two of you are ever going to be as moved by Dimash as are millions of his fans. I. personally, do not burst into tears as do many of his fans. But nor do I watch and listen to it in an attitude of putting up with it until he finally stops singing and allows me to move onto something interesting. I have asked myself why you have spent time with it, when it seems to leave you feeling bland and nearly asleep. At any rate, I do wish you the very best.
