You did one of my favorite performances!!! This song is originally supposed to be one man singing in lament over a woman. So the relationship thing about "you will destroy me" that you sensed was very correct. However this was turned into a Duet just for this occasion. There was a singing contest called "Big Opera 2016" hosted in Russia that was for international artists. Sundet Biaigozhi (leading soloist of the Astana Opera) was a contestant and this particular week called for "unusual roles and with an unusual repertoire, going beyond the operatic genre, surprising themselves, their colleagues and TV viewers". Also, Dimash had been asked to join the Astana Opera right around that time saying that he had the rarest voice known and that they would be pleased to work with him. Dimash politely turned them down as he wanted to explore with his voice more and in multiple genre's including contemporary. Sundet Baigozhi had already known Dimash as they are both from Kazakhstan and had met each other on other talk shows and events and they knew some of the same people. At some point, Dimash was asked to join Sundet on this episode of the contest to fulfill this " unique" requirement as Dimash's voice is clearly out of this world. Also, the song itself is not from an opera but from a musical and this change in genre helped meet the contest requirements. Anyway, I think the performance is really unique and amazing! Sundet is amazing. I love the deep timbre of his voice. However, Dimash's voice is so pure here that it is jaw dropping-ly stunning. The level of skill displayed by this 22 year old is mind blowing. Moreover, this was filmed a few months before he became famous. This performance is on the eve of Dimash's world wide discovery. And that is when, Dimash's voice became like the shot heard around the world. Dimash is the voice that was heard around the world that started a musical revolution! Ok.... enough.... I'm typing too much. I'll get right on the subtitles. SUBTITLES will be done as fast as I can people.... patience is a virtue LOL That's what my mom always said.

Thanks Julie! I love this one too - the contrast between Sundet's deeper, richer timbre with Dimash's soaring, bell-like tone, is just delicious! This is the one duet I'd most love to hear reprised, now that Dimash has "grown into" his deeper voice a bit - though of course, it won't have fully matured til his mid-30's - and he's more confident about using it... Anyways my Dear, thank you so much again for helping out with subtitles - angels come in many different shapes of wing!😇🤗💋

@Julie H - Thank you so much for giving this background information; I’d been wondering where and when this performance was done. I’d never heard of Sundet before this and wow, what a voice. Not to mention those cheekbones, lol. Between him and Dimash this performance is definitely a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. Two beautiful men singing about being destroyed by the other doesn’t strike me as referring to a duel, frankly, especially given the way Sundet turns and looks at Dimash while he’s singing, which makes this even more intriguing to me. There is nothing much Dimash cannot do. He can sing anything in any genre, he can act, he can perform like no other, he can tell a story in many languages & to put it mildly Dimash is the most versatile artist on the planet. I cannot go a day without listening to his magnificent voice. Thanks for your great reactions to his greatness. 🤗😍❤️🥰🇨🇦

Известный Казахстанский оперный певец участвовал в конкурсе в России. На очередном туре т е на этом он решил петь дуэтом с Димашем,хотя по условиям конкурса он должен был петь с другим певцом.Но Сундэт сказал что или он будет петь с Димашем или он не будет петь вообще,уж очень он хотел показать Димаша публике и членам жюри. Но тогда на Димаша на этом конкурсе в России не отреагировали.Вот такая история произошла с Димашем.

The lyrics talk about a priest obsessing over Esmeralda, Frollo in The original production and is not a duet .they just presented a different narrative for this duet

I love that you love Dimash! I'm a passionate Dear, and when someone loves Dimash like you do, and stand up for him, I think you must be my son or something, well, very dear to me, BECAUSE you really love Dimash and there is nothing bette r to you (as far as I know) than Dimash. Just in case I give you a little information. /// This performance took place on November 13, 2016 in Moscow at the show "Big Opera". Dimash is 22 years old. Sundet Baigozhin - Kazakh opera singer. He was a part of this show. Sundet invited Dimas to sing a duet from the musical "Notre Dame de Paris". This is a French-Canadian musical based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Musical composer - Riccardo Cocciante. Sundet wanted Russian viewers to see Dimash. They learned this song in French in a short time. It turned out to be a very good duet. Dimash and Sundet are friends. /////////////////////////////// Привет, Филиппе! Опять без субтитров не поняла, что ты так эмоционально говорил. Поэтому не знаю, знаком ли ты с историей этого спектакля. На всякий случай даю тебе маленькую информацию. /// Это выступление состоялось 13 ноября 2016 года в Москве на шоу «Большая опера». Baryton- Sundet Baigozhin(hi also uses "guttural singing", which added some national Kazakh flavor to it) and Dimash perform Frollo's aria from the musical "Notre-Dame de Paris" in front of a Russian-speaking audience(it`s important- because they understood). It's a long story, it would take me half a KZfaq page to describe. If you want, see for yourself what Frollo's role was and who he was in "Notre-Dame de Paris". The photo is very important. You can see it in the background. Scenery, clothes and photo. What the director wanted to tell us/them? Costumes (around 19th century) guns, winter, what does that tell us? What do we associate it with? This is a duel between the poet Pushkin and Dantes which took place on January 27, 1837, in the suburbs of St. Petersburg(Pushkin was fatally wounded and died 2 days later). And here let's move to the opera "Eugene Onegin" by Piotr Tchaikovsky(based on a digressive poem by Alexander Pushkin)- everyone who knows Russian literature will connect the dots:) I am from Poland but this literature is familiar to me. Anyway, who does not know Pushkin? It`s all linked by love, anger, conflict between feelings (represented by Dimash) and mind (represented by Sundet Baigozhin), duel and death. This way we are back to Frollo and to the duo Sundet-Dimash:) It all happens in the mind of Frollo- catholic priest who made the vow of celibacy and hi is in love with a woman. And they both(singers) represent Frollo's mind(these are important words: "Tu vas me détruire- You will destroy me"). Anyway, as we can see, Dimash not only has a beautiful voice, but also a beautiful intellectual mind. He doesn't do cheap, naked, vulgar songs. He is more demanding of himself and the audience :) When you know the etymologies, you see the masterpiece:) Regards:)

What a marvelous performance. And I agree that there isn't anything that my YOUNG MAN can't do. He's unmatched & no matter what genre it is he puts 100% & more into it. We have never seen a performer that's as versatile as Dimash. That's one of the many reasons that he's beloved by the Dears LOVINGLY SIGNED, A PROUD 🇺🇸🦌💋

To perform the duet, which was one of the conditions of the project, the famous singer, invited DIMASH, a 2nd year student of the National University of Arts. Esta basado en la historia del padre cura, que adoptó al jorobado de Notre Dame, el el sacerdote que sintió lujuria y deseo desenfrenado por la bailarina Esmeralda. Está interpretación da la de una lucha interior en contra de este deseo que lo va a destruir. Generalmente se canta como solista, pero en esta oportunidad quisieron juntar dos grandes voces en una gran obra musical. Saludos desde Santiago de Chile.

Como estudante de música e do belcanto, a disciplina operática inclui estudar obras clássicas das operas e operetas nas mais variadas línguas natais da peça: italiano, francês, espanhol, alemão e algumas inglesas... É natural que Dimash esteja familiarizado por estas línguas e respectiva arte de pronunciar as sílabas certas nas pautas certas... E tenho a ligeira impressão que Sundet poderia quase ser dispensado, não fosse ele parte do coro durante o refrão desta peça... LOL
