This song was written by an unknown soldier in 1916 and today signifies the oppression and suffering the Kazakh people have endured over the many centuries inflicted by their conquerors. In my opinion, Dimash sings it often at Kazakh state functions to remind the people of their past to warn them what could happen again if they are not vigilant. The period of 1916 was during WWI when the Russian Tsar needed more men in his army, Russian military forced Kazakh young men from 19 to 43 yrs of age into the Imperial Russian Army. This massive conscription was a huge contributing factor in the Central Asian Revolt of 1916 against Imperial Russia. All of this including the Tsar's policy to force the nomadic Kazakh people to stop their way of life caused massive starvation over several decades leading to approx. 1.5 million deaths during this time period. Dimash sings this song in remembrance of all the pain, blood and death the Kazakh peoples have endured.

You can see and feel Dimash praying just before he begins singing. He has such soul for Kazakhstan and the people who were lost, the people pained by losing loved ones, and left behind to a very difficult life. He is a remarkable gift from God to the world, and not just because he has such a once-ever voice and work ethic. I love his soul. I am a Dear now for only 4 months, but it began the first second I heard him sing with such heart. He, his family and country are in my prayers every day, and his music is in my soul and ears every day.

The "concert in the rain", mentioned in an earlier post, when he insisted on performing because some people had waited as long as 9 hrs, is one of the most beautiful things he has ever done..singing dripping wet, in the pouring rain and even lightning, with his hair plastered to his head. That night it was 46°. What a beautiful human. It is the Emei Mountain Music Festival and is only about 30 minutes long. He wanted to keep singing but they insisted he stop.

It's a very traditional song but with a new arrangement by Dimash and Erlan Bekchurin. They worked on this song in the airport and on the plane on the way over to China. Dimash has always said that it's a difficult song emotionally for him to sing, reminding him of a time when Kazakhs were powerless, they lost millions of people in the ensuing famine too after all the able bodied men were taken away leaving only women, children and the elderly to tend crops and animals. Dimash's Kazakh songs strike differently, they're very deep and meaningful, usually based around an event in Kazakh history or a hope for his countries future. As for shorter concerts. I think the Almaty concert has been the longest. The New York concert was amazing but the version on his channel has been cut to ribbons because of copyright difficulties. If you wish to do that one then just let us know as we have links to the concert as it was aired on Kazakh television.

Here is an excellent example of a short concert in China 4 years ago, fans waited for Dimash for 10 hours in the rain, it took him a long time to get there, but he still performed and was thoroughly wet, but happy. Other artists refused to perform, but not our Dimash. Fans called this concert simply "concert in the rain" and everyone knows what kind of concert we are talking about. Only 35 minutes, but this is the favorite concert of most Dimash fans kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9mPZNd3p7GWaY0.htmlsi=hv5IUirDrKXODKdE

Samaltau is about a young Kazakh who was forcibly recruited by Russia in 1916. He was forced to leave his home country and his elderly parents to go to war (WWI) and does not know what awaits him there as a soldier or how his elderly parents are to manage without him. I love this song. This song is really special. You literally can hear the wind blowing, the storm and the howling of the wolf. Dimash sings this song so emotionally that you can almost sense the fears and worries this young soldier must have felt as he went off to a war that wasn't his. I suggest always turning on the subtitles. Almost every song on his channel has many subtitles for you to choose from. Normally there are no vocal acrobatics in his native songs and I love them a lot. In every of this songs you can hear the great love and devotion to his country and his people. Another good performance is Samaltau Tokyo Jazz Festival: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9x9hc6avtuXeqc.html Another beautiful Kazakh folk song is Daididau. In case you are interested in the history of this song. This song is very sad and it tells about a very dark time in the history of Kazakhstan, not so long ago. To understand the song, I always advise to take the link from Gloria Wu’s channel as it shows the background story and also has English subtitles. The Kazakh poet and writer Magzhan Zumabayev was sentenced by the Russian regime to 10 years in prison for conspiracy in 1929 and imprisoned. While in custody there, he was falsely (probably more intentionally) told that his wife (her nickname was Daididau) had left him. If I am correctly informed he is said to have written the lines of the song in prison (as a letter to his wife), probably to express his deep sadness and despair over is. Although he was released in 1934, he was arrested again a few months later and was executed 1937. The lyrics of this song are so sad I could cry every time I hear it. It never leaves me unmoved. Even after hearing it so many times. In this performances he also wears Kazakh clothes. Our prince🥰 I was at his concert in Düsseldorf and he sang this song with us Dears there too. This song is one he always performs in his concerts, plays the Dombra (a Kazakh folk instrument), and asks his Dears to sing along with him in his Kazakh language (he looks like a Kazakh Prince with his traditional clothing). Every Dear knows many of his lyrics in Kazakh and loves to sing his songs with him at his concerts. I find it incredibly impressive and wonderful how a single man manages to bring together so many people from meanwhile 150 different countries and continents with so many different views in politics or religion, with so many different languages in a common group and to celebrate peacefully together and to sing in his own language. You always can see how proud he is of his country and how happy and moved he is when the audience sings with him in his concerts🥰. There is another version of this song that I would like to recommend, but only after or together with the one from the singer competition. And that's the one from his Bastau concert. This concert was his first solo concert after performing in The Singer competition in 2017. He has invited about 100 dombra players to this concert, who together with him perform a short instrumental, Adai, before Daididau. That's also very impressive. But that, if you want, later. It’s really worth it. The Singer: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrWjatWc05mafGQ.html Bastau: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMdkqZRqt9aak4U.html Thank you again for taking the time to react to Dimash. Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

His original preference of this was during COVID-19. He had the Cobyz player on one side and the rain tube on the other, he was sitting crossed leg on a stool. Wherever he sings he creates great depth, bringing wonderful, heart-wrenching images not only of in the times of Kazakstan's fight for independence but also the struggle for Ukraine, Gaza, and elsewhere in the world. When will we ever be free of wars. Bless them all.

Yes, this is traditional Kazakh folk music. So, a song that everyone in Kazakstan has probably heard before, sang in school etc. Dimash and his best friend and arranger, Erlan, put their heads together to give it a modern spin. Dimash says this is one of THE hardest songs of his to sing, because it’s so emotionally hard to get into character. Last point, imo there is always something a little more special when Dimash sings in his Kazakh mother-tongue, like he did here. These are the songs of his soul. Great reaction! ❤

It is a folk song (has no specific author). The story is about young Kazakh recruit as he was forced to register for the Russian military according to a tsar’s edict ordering males of non-Russian origin aged 19-43 to register for work at military installations of the Russian army. This was the second year of Russia’s participation in the ‘Great War’, which led to a huge loss of human lives and materials and the burden of restocking was laid on conquered nations.Tsar's decree caused the Kazakh uprising, although the underlying reason was Russian colonisation and the usurpation of Kazakh lands.
