It was the 12th performance during The Singer competition in China in 2017. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. You might think he should have won in 2017 at the 'Singer' TV program. Didn't happen. This is China. Pride demanded that a Chinese singer win. But that decision in itself proved to be somewhat controversial - in a country that does not like controversy much. In 2018, the show invited Dimash as a guest star - not a competitor. He performed Lionel Richie's 'Hello.' If memory serves, a foreigner - Australian - actually won that year. The show adjusted. Dimash was gracious theoughout. Never complained. It's a very good show, after all. Great musicians & backup singers, and the show launched him to new heights as a popular artist. 'Singer' treated him much better than CBS' 'World's Best' TV program. CBS cut his songs down to 2 minutes each, basically destroying the pacing and dynamic qualities of his music - and they promised he would not have to compete against children. They lied. I’ve only seen a few people able to sing the Diva Dance from “The Fifth Element.” It’s performed by an alien character, and I don’t think it was actually intended for a human to sing. It’s not just that it has the highest written note in any music I know of (half step higher than the high note in “The Magic Flute” aria), but it’s the speed at which the singer has to make huge leaps between high and low.

From my point of view, I cannot make a top ranking of Dimash's songs, the original ones, regardless of the composer (Igor, Dimash or someone else), leaving aside the covers. I come back to the idea, so I can't make a top. Why? Simple: each song by Dimash has a different theme, a different melodic line, different feelings, different tonalities. Each track is unique in lyric, interpretation, musical essence and message. If you listen to one, you like it more, if you listen to another, you like it even more, you can't decide because you can't. There are pieces with a religious touch, patriotic pieces, pieces of love, pieces of courage etc. If in an interview Dimash was asked what song he likes, I don't know what answer he would give... Almost all of them are masterpieces. It is as if Dimash is a father of dozens of children. I don't think he could tell a difference between them. Each piece has its place in time and space, it is appropriate in a certain context, event. Each song takes you on a certain journey, be it magical, be it angelic, be it love or be it a story, either sad, or happy, or fighting, or patriotic. We have to be consistent and say that all the pieces are exceptional, not one can be compared to another, because a parent loves all his children the same!!! Second: Dimash is a miracle, so his absolute powerful and unshakable presence on stage, compared by some to a god of music, sometimes to a prince or king, the energy he absorbs from the Universe, then how he anchors himself to the Earth, his connection with the Divinity, all at a place, it gives him the strength and confidence to "command the audience, to order the orchestra, to order the song", so that everything comes out the way he wants and how Dimash feels, that is unique. All these qualities are only at Dimash, absolutely. The goosebumps and hypnosis induced by Dimash are the characteristics of his concerts and appearance on stage, which are shaped by his endless beauty, sometimes translucent, sometimes sensual, sometimes angelic !!! Dimash is storm, thunder, lightning, sun, rain, smile, but also love and last but not least he is our hope and our daily light, he is our spiritual food when you put your head on the pillow and start dreaming like tomorrow it's a day… !!!!! Things I found to be important about Dimash: Parents are well known singers, composers, producers in Kazakhstan As a toddler. He showed an interest in music. His family nurtured his talent. From the age of 5 or 6, his education had a major focus on music. Throughout his education he learned music, composition, theory, voice, performance etc. He has a masters working toward a PhD in music. His natural talent was nurtured and encouraged. He understands the mechanics of singing. Three things are very important to him: Country and the Kazakhstan culture His faith. He is a Muslim. World Peace. He has participated in various forums and public events in peace and peace has been at the core of many of the songs he has written. He said that he decided not to become an opera singer because it did not allow for interpretation and innovation. While his neoclassical repertoire is large, he is also a huge fan of Michael Jackson. He has recorded pop songs and has even rapped. His latest music has a jazzy feel. His family is still very much involved in his career. A tidbit from me is Every single thing in a performance by Dimash has been designed by him to the smallest note and his movements with the lights are all on. He is incredibly clean moving through all the octaves, and he does this live. The majority of his songs are live. Dimash right now is doing concerts here and there. Has had conversations with people in America about concerts, and he is interested in more acting with Hollywood so close by giving him inspiration. His song "Stranger, Fly away and His Ave Maria" should be watched together because it is a trilogy. And lastly Standing up clapping is more a Western custom, Dimash is used to getting flowers and simple clapping.

He is Not Dancing in this one, but he can. Aaahm, better said, he does.!

Great reaction! Thank you! I love Dimash’s Singer performances. Supposedly the producers asked him to tone down the Diva Dance so he wouldn’t hurt his vocal cords on their turf. (Liability?) The Bastau concert version is how he wanted to perform it. I have grown to love Confessa: he starts off in Mandarin for the first verse (for the audience) and then continues in the original Italian. I’m going to a live concert in Budapest in May. Four other fans from Oregon are also going. 😊
