The importance of this composition is in the message, not his vocal ability, Dimash is an Ambassador of Peace, and I have seen other reactors that didn’t understand the message from the live performance and were stunned by the music video when they had seen the live first. This is only my opinion, his vocals are the soundtrack for what you are seeing in this video, separately it might be difficult to understand all religions walking together just from the vocal styles, and some people will understand that. There’s so much symbolism in the video that isn’t seen in the live version, having said that, the live version is extremely powerful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I'm so glad you did both versions. Yes, in the life performance you can really appreciate his voice without the distraction of the video. I personally think that the MV focusses more on the imagery and the Story, with the song serving as background to the video, and I think it was made that way on purpose. This is one song that I feel both versions have equal merit - the live one for his vocal prowess (and of course for the message), and the video for the emotional impact of the message he wants to bring across. The symbol on the necklaces is a gnomon, which is the vertical part of a sundial. Much of the symbolism can be interpreted in various ways, but EVERY bit symbolism was deliberately chosen by Dimash. His choices may have actually been for the ambiguities so we can all take a message away from this MV. Thank you for doing this reaction.

The message at the end was part of a declaration written by the pope and the great imam in 2019. In 2022 Dimash premiered this song in front of them live. It was even before the concert and the video release.

Just in case anyone missed any references in the video, This is by far the best explanation I have found. It was written by Heiderose Kober: This is subtitled "Requiem” but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself. The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information). In the MV, (the taller child) who later becomes the military commander, never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, (the drowning boy), gives his friend the pendant. The camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl (later Dimash's Wife and the mother of his daughter who is killed). Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support the war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht close to the end of the war in April 1945 in the part of Germany where I grew up. I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed-out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price? War is not the answer. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. His soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.” Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, race, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. As the hymn tells us: "Let there peace in the world, and let it begin with me." Baraka Bashad.

A brilliant masterpiece of song and story composed and written over three years by Dimash. And he can act!!! The necklace symbol is a gnomon, the projecting part of a sundial which was widely used in ancient China from the second millennium BC onward in order to determine the changes in seasons, orientation, and geographical latitude, in this instance a metaphor for the intertwining lives of these three childhood friends and the different choices and paths they they made and took in their lives. 🙏🏻🇦🇺

For a while I was telling people to watch the MV first for the context of the song but now I feel like people should see the live first so they can focus on the vocals and then watch the MV so they can focus on the visuals. You had mentioned, when Dimash confronts his old friend, that he can't do it because then he'd be no better and that is precisely part of Dimash's message. NO ONE really wins in war; everyone suffers losses, including often losing themselves, parts of their souls. Even the best people find themselves doing horrible things in war. Both the live and the MV are valuable performances so thanks for reacting to both!

This song is a "modern" multicultural interfaith Requiem (the traditional Requiem is a song for the Mass of the Dead in the Catholic Church. The best known requiem is by Mozart I think). The Requiem usually has 2 parts: one mourning death and the other celebrating life. Dimash says in a low voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. (Kazakh proverb) So for me, the caravan is his (and our) inner world. Religiosity is in us, the religious man dies when a part of the soldier (Dimash) dies when he finds his daughter dead. So when he seeks revenge, there's a storm. Death follows death: Piper dies but the soldier (Dimash) dies too. Death is not the answer. And so violence is not the way (You can murder the "bad guy" but if everybody thinks that violence is an answer, another "bad guy" will appear for sure.) The necklace is a compass which represents the choice of directions we have to take in life. We all make the decision to follow the darkness or walk toward the light in spirituality of love.

Some people think this symbol reminds of an sextant- an old tool for navigation on the ocean. And the girl and Dimash was wearing it around their necks, but the taller boy/ the crazy piper never wore it and the he turned the symbol (on the uniform) upside down. …This MV was not meant to admire Dimashe’s vocal abilities, he didn’t do it for that reason, that’s why we wanted you to see this MV 🤷‍♀️. Thanks. I think yours are the only goosebumps that have actually ever been visible. So many people hold them up to the camera but none to be seen😂. By showing the two friends killing each other he demonstrates the very futility of it. In War and Peace he sings ‘who’s the first to open their arms’ (paraphrasing) …not what this scene implies ‘eye for an eye.’ Another masterpiece.

Dimash wants to show us that war creates hate. His daughter was dead, he probably assumed that his wife was dead also. He killed his friend and did not fight back. He dropped the gun and waited to be killed. The necklace is part of a navigation compass. His friend bent it and lost his north. At the beginning of this song, Dimash sings the lyrics: "Piper's crazy, we're all bound to fall" He is referencing his childhood friend that saved his life on the beach. By refering to him as "PIPER" It referenced a deeper meaning of a medieval folklore inspired by a Grimm Brothers legend of the "Pied Piper" of Hamelin who lead innocent children to their death with his magic flute. There will always be another "Pied Piper" that will lead innocent people astray to their deaths through the guise & facade of war "to unite people". At the end of the video, we see Dimash as a grown man with the symbolic necklace. He is the child that was born from the union of his parents (the girl from his childhood) Dimash being the father that ultimately had to destroy the "Piper" to end the tyrany & madness. The child now becomes the leader to lead people of all nations & faiths to walk a different kind of path NOT war and choose life! Even if it means walking away from all that you know and to start all over again with NOTHING...We are making a conscious choice to choose LIFE! Hence Dimash sums it up beautifully when he sings the lyrics of: "Last chance is here, can we balance on the edge of fiery grave? Our future, is it possible to save? Great reaction and comments! Dimash performed it live first, and I was moved to tears at the time (I was there in the audience and I wasn’t the only one sobbing). He showed the video the next day at the Meet-and-Greet but since it had been announced at the last minute and my travel plans were already set and paid for, I went on to Kyzylorda, and finally got to watch the video on the train from Aralsk to Shymkent. I agree with you. Start with the live performance to appreciate the composition and the vocals. Then watch the video to understand more in depth his message.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jeremy, for doing the MV now. Personally, I believe the MV should be watched first to fully grasp the story and Dimash's message. Then, the concert performance should be watched to get the live emotional effect, as just another facet of the message. I have an immense amount of respect for Dimash as an ARTIST who is not afraid to use his G-d given gift and platform to bring us certain messages: be it a push to start thinking for yourself and not to follow the "piper", to be proud of your country and be a good citizen and a neighbor, and to accept all aspects of your essence and love yourself (El Amor En Ti). I wish more artists with a wide reach would do this. The public needs reminders here and then to strive to be better.

This is one of the few instances where the Video is more important to Watch than the Live performance. ## It is NOT a Music Video - but a Mini-Movie with a Maxi-Message.## Dimash spent 3 years on it's production, and a hell of a lotta $ too. The music and vocals - spectacular as they are of course, are BACKGROUND to the Visuals. Dimash is telling a very important Story here with a profound MESSAGE To the World. He is saying the time is short to try to save Humanity from hurtling over the Extinction cliff - of our own making. That we should stop following self-serving territorial and genocidal Leaders { Pipers} and work together; All Countries, Cultures , Faiths. Cherishing LIFE, Respect and Tolerance is Foundational. He's right. We know this, that we all live on one small spinning ball of rock in space - Under the One Sky. Are we going to act in time? [ # In September last year, The Pope, who was visiting Kazakhstan to attend a Multi-Faith Forum there, gave Dimash a Special Award, acknowledging this Movie as an important Contribution to World Peace. ]

You're right, it's difficult, if not impossible, to focus on both at the same time. That's why some Dears always advise to watch the live performance first, even though you might not understand why he's singing the way he's singing. The video is full of symbolism. No camera angle is unwanted, every scene has meaning and should be watched carefully to understand the video. The video shows once again that Dimash is an absolute genius. In singing but also as an actor and as a storyteller. The powerful message conveyed by this video is more relevant today than ever. I think this video is mostly about the message. This message however, is for the first time more important than his vocal abilities. His voice is just the tool in this video. But simply unbelievable. His singing is indescribable and I don’t have the words to express it adequately. But it is only the mediator of what this video is about. This is so heartbreaking and sad and an awesome masterpiece. Pure goosebumps. You probably have to see it more than once to understand it. He worked on this composition for three years and also wrote the screenplay. The premiere was on September 24, 2022. As some have mentioned, this video should be seen by many people. It may be very brutal for some. But let’s not forget that for many, including children, this is everyday life in some countries. And Dimash relentlessly shows us how ugly war is. Dimash was the little boy who was drowning in the beginning and he gave the necklace to his childhood friend (and future leader) and the girl. The girl on the beach was his future wife. She was pregnant and in the end of the video she gave birth to her and Dimashs' (character) second child. The littel girl who was shot was Dimashs and her first daughter. When he came home and saw his daughter dead on the ground, he had to assume that his wife was also killed. Desperation and maybe revenge has led him to kill his former friend. When I first saw the video, I didn't think he was going to shoot his friend either. But in the end that made sense. Dimash wanted to show what revenge can do. Violence always breeds violence, and because of this, not only is the leader dead, but so is Dimash. It was so heartbreaking to see Dimash drown at the end. Dimash in the last sequence of the video was the baby that was born and now as a grown man unites people of different nationalities and religions for peace. OMG he is such a phenomenal actor. But it‘s funny how very few reactors realize that the soldiers shot in the arm at the beginning of the war scenes was Dimash. These are my views on this amazing masterpiece Story of One Sky - I have watched this many times and still find things out that i never thought of amazing video and i have said it before if anyone could bring peace i strongly believe Dimash could make it possible. This needs to be shared worldwide to show people there is another way. War is never the answer because the only ones to suffer are the innocent. Rewatched the song of Dimash today one line stood out to me One of the most profound lines in The Story of One Sky is the line "Learn to share the love, Not shares" Not shares meaning stop making money out of war rich people have many shares in companies that profit from weapon manufacturing making them richer while the innocent suffer sadly this is why war exists. MONEY, GREED and POWER. The boy who was drowning was (Dimash's character as a child) made the necklaces that were given to the girl who grew up to be (Dimash's pregnant wife) and the boy who saved him who (grew up to be the military leader), possibly out of jealousy. Hello Jeremy! You are right, Dimash put so much into this video, so I want to thank you for your sincere reaction! When I first watched this MV, it broke me, I became very emotional, it was heart wrenching, to say the least! 😢 Have you noticed that Dimash is the main solder right from the very beginning of the war scene, when he was walking under the overpass, and also when he was shot in the arm, many people miss that? Dimash has worked very hard for 3 years composing the music for this song, and around 20 days to make this MV. It turned out to be his most valuable MV, in the ideological sense, ever made, a real Masterpiece! I believe that Dimash deserves THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE for his selfless hard work and tireless efforts, not only for this MV, but for trying to bring the world together in love, peace, and harmony. He is a Legend and will go down in History. This is my breakdown of the story, as I see it: This mini movie is full of symbolisms, it's the story of 3 youths, and the necklace which was created by the young Dimash and shared with his friends symbolizing lifelong friendship and unity. The boys both loved the same girl, but she loved Dimash, and the other boy grew resentment with time and grew up to become the Piper and started a war, using the symbol of the necklace as the crest on his army uniform. 1) Dimash, was the boy drowning at the beginning and at the end. 2) The Piper, is the one who saved Dimash, became the leader, and was killed by Dimash at the end. 3) The young girl, who died in childbirth, became Dimash’s future wife, had two children together; a daughter who was killed by the Piper's army; and the birth of a son at the end, who inherited the necklace from his mother…, they were all affected by the war. For the symbolic aspects, Dimash is showing the different cultures and religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hindi, etc.), through throat singing, which is called the REQUIEM (mass for the souls of the dead), from different religions. Sometimes it takes one good man to put a stop to tyranny, no matter what it takes. So in this case, although he had to do a terrible thing, he did in fact choose life for all those he left behind. The symbol is part of a nautical sundial (I don't recall the name) that is used to both navigate and measure time. Here is symbolises our inner and life compass through time.

Personally I feel that everyone who recommends the live version over the MV is doing Dimash a huge disservice. If he knew that his message to the world was being rejected to focus purely on his vocal ability he would be so disappointed. He paid a huge amount both emotionally and financially to get his message of peace out to the world and asked that this video be shared around the world to as many people as possible. Sometimes it's not all about his incredible vocal abilities, we already know he has them, they don't need to be isolated for us, he asked us to promote this video with its slap you in the face message of not listening to propaganda and silver tongued leaders and we should not be ignoring his request just because we're obsessed with what he can do with his voice.

This video is something that must be watched multiple times to truly get all the symbolism. If you look away for even a second, you will miss something. I prefer the video first, the live second to see his passion about the actual music and then to watch the video mulitple times. Amazing for sure.

This MV, this Story was something he wanted to tell for quite some time. I remember when he give us glimpse in that he is working on something very important to him. So, here is definitely MV the most important part and his singing is “just” marvellous soundtrack. MV is also full of symbols and allegories … we passed the moment of Imagine (Beatles) and pain of a birth and pain of a death. More movie details: (1) The three (children) and the two boys disputed the girl's attention; (2) The character (which Dimash represents as an adult) created a symbol to confirm friendship between the three, after being saved by his friend; (3) Still in the video we see the girl choose "Dimash" and then they get married and have the little girl (who was killed) as a daughter and the mother is pregnant with another boy; (4) The older boy (who saved "Dimash" from drowning) does not accept being abandoned by the girl and becomes a dictator president/general; (5) Dimash becomes a soldier who decides to return from combat to protect his war refugee family; (6) Dimash finds his daughter dead and thinks that his wife had also died, so he decides to take revenge on his friend; (7) He kills the dictator and is killed regretting the violence he committed in life; (8) Dimash's wife is welcomed by people of different religions who agree that Dimash's son is someone special; (9) The wife dies in childbirth and Dimash's son becomes a leader who leads the refugees to a better place, of tolerance, respect and acceptance.
