Virtuosos will say knowing theory like you know the alphabet will unlock your potential but that's bullshit. I think it just makes you able to play anything but lose a lot of creativity. Technically, Galder is better. That's why he plays the lead stuff. Just listen to his old band: Old Man's Child. Guitar-wise, It's more complex than what he did with Dimmu. From this lesson we can see that Dimmu's music is more focusing on the orchestral elements. So, the guitar parts is just mostly for rhythmic purpose.

Note that they play in D-standard tuning (two steps down) but they refer to the E standard chords. So when they say that they go from G# to F they actually play F# to D#. But you use the finger positions for G# and F if your guitar would be in E-standard. I hiope that makes any sense :-).

I think (correct me if I'm wrong), the reason why they think twice when they talk about the specific key they're in, it's because I'm not sure they use ABC for guitars in Norway, they probably use DO RE MI or similar. So they might just be translating in their head before communicating it to the camera.

Midgard Land see. that comment is bollocks. Galder is more than capable than playing like astennu.
@1Second1Day1Step7 жыл бұрын
No he's not. Not even close, in fact. In order to solo (Astennu) rather than play leads (Galder), one generally has to grasp the concept of scales and be able to identify the notes all over the fretboard. Based just on this "lesson" alone, Galder seems to struggle with knowing what key he is even playing in. Galder is the type of guitarist who writes music that sounds cool to him but he doesn't know why. He has a good ear, but actually has very little musical knowledge. Galder can't hold Astennu's jock.
@christinacumba7876 жыл бұрын
Astennu was most definitely a better guitar player than Galder. I still think the Spiritual Black Dimensions lineup was their best lineup (even though I do not think that is their best album, that lineup had the most talent and their apex remains unrealized) after all the years and all their evolution. But that is not to Galder is devoid of talent or even severely lacking in talent. He obviously has a lot of talent. It is not always praising one to slight the other.
@MoonOvIce4 жыл бұрын
@TorHawk Sorgens Kammer Del 2 is Shagrath and Silenoz playing, Shagrath is a better guitar player than Silenoz, that's why that re-recording shines riff-wise. Metal Heart was covered in the 90's and I believe Astennu was the second guitarrist but not 100% sure on that. All the others have Galder in them.
