(Back in the 1980s, Eddie Murphy had a comic routine about parenting in different cultures in which he mused that when he was a child, his father would not even let him say "dang" because it sounded too much like "damn.") It sounds as though English does not have a word that means quite the same thing as блин, used as a mild oath. Maybe the closest thing in English is the exclamation "Shoot!" as a euphemism for "Shit!" The problem with this translation is that, if I understand correctly, the word блять does not really translate as "shit," as the latter is both a meaningless oath but also a vulgar term for feces. My understanding is that the etymology of блять traces back to a term for a prostitute, but that it isn't currently used that way--rather, more like the exclamation "Fuck!" So perhaps блин is similar to the adjective "freaking," as in: "Ow! I stubbed my freakin' toe!" I remember the deeply religious Wesley So exclaiming "Freak!" during blitz games to avoid the exclamation "Fuck!"; however, most English speakers would not use that back-formation from "freaking." Maybe "Fudge!" is a suitable translation of блин, in the sense of a food term that sounds similar to an obscenity, although it's not too commonly used. I get the impression that the way Russians hear блин is most similar to the way Americans hear "Shoot!"

You could have made your point is a less accusatory manner. Someone like Ms. Belenkaya whose native language is not English might understandably overlook the subtle connotations of certain English expressions. Even for native speakers, this issue is complicated. See, for example, Mignon Fogarty's _Washington Post_ article of July 16, 2014, entitled "How to call someone 'girl' without seeming sexist."
