I did this years ago with thunderbird. It was alright, not great. I imagine dingwall does it better. When I ordered my DRoc it was an option but went with standard. Maybe I’ll do the mod later.

One thing I don't like about the modern basses is the pots. If you're in a live setting - it's gear-grinding to turn this knob down a little, a little bass boost etc. How'd you find that sound, oh I turned this knob down a bit, this one up etc etc. The knobs should be selectable (actually click) from 0-10 that way there's a strong basis of reference. Otherwise the design is going to go into onboard electronics that select pre-saved models because why would you want to have to search for the tone again? If there's a solution to this or something being developed, I'm very interested!

You could get a 10 position rotary switch and wire in a bunch of different value resistors to have hard stops with volume and tone changes

Especially on the volume pot. I have a bass that I can't use the full volume on the series setting because it becomes too sharp.

I've seen people install varitone switches on their guitars (which is basically what you're describing) but I think the main reason they aren't more common is because they're much more tedious to wire than a standard potentiometer. A pot is just a variable resistor that allows you to blend from one point to another; but a varitone requires you manually select, voice, match, and wire resistors and capacitors for each selection on the switch. It can be worth it if you actually intend to use every setting (and you can easily get sounds out of it that aren't possible on a basic potentiometer) but if you end up ignoring most of the settings then it's not really worth the time. So basically, the technology exists, but generally isn't considered to be worth the extra time and effort it takes to wire it.

I need it! I really don’t like the bass with G string. Is too thin for my like. I was actually looking for the Ibanez Bass that was made for Paul Gray of Slipknot because it’s tuned the same way.
