Direct Hit: Yet Another X-Flare From Region 3697 and Earth-Directed CME

Region 3697 produced three X-flares on May 31st and June 1st. The third, an X1.0-class solar flare at 18:36 UTC (6/1/2024), followed by a long duration M7.3 event at 19:40 UTC.
Most notable was the M7.3 flare with accompanying Type II and IV radio emissions. The associated asymmetric halo CME, visible in LASCO C2 imagery at 01/19:00 UTC, is expected to be Earth-directed. However, further analysis is needed to determine the timing and intensity of impact.
A passage past our planet will be possible within 48-72 hours. According to NOAA/SWPC, the impact could produce strong G3-class geomagnetic storms.
NOAA forecasters estimate a 35% chance of X-flares and a 75% chance of M-flares on June 2nd.

Thanks for another great update Ilias, you always do a top job 👍🌞 I'm wondering though why NOAA and SWPC have suddenly changed their forecast claiming that the long duration M7.3 solar flare and Halo CME was caused by a far side eruption and no Earth directed component 🤔 And they've now downgraded the G2-3 storm to a G1 on June 4th 🤷‍♀️ I get suspicious (and confused!) when they change their prediction models, especially when we can clearly observe the amount of activity produced from sunspot group 3697 🧐
