Mr Skinner, you have the knack of depicting your subjects, warts and all with sensitivity. Although John (Marion) Wayne is not without controversy, you certainly showed the value of loyalty and true friendship with his association with John Ford.

I often wonder just exactly how many people traveled to see monument valley just because of John Ford's films. I know that there must have been many of them and my dad was one of them. We ended up relocating to Arizona after visiting there. I remember thinking on the way that there was no way it could look as beautiful as it did in the film's. I learned it didn't. It looked better than it did in the films. Thank you Mr. Skinner for this fine tribute to a director, the likes of which we probably will never see again.

Jerry, that was a terrific tribute to a hard arse director who knew how to make movies. I believe that without him there would have been no John Wayne or Ward Bond. Not to mention the other fine actors in his group. There can never be another director like Ford as at his time the movie industry was still forming itself and that those times were a simpler times for them all. John Wayne once said he owed everything to Pappy, but I believe it was a two way street. I look forward to your next video Mate.

I can see why 1.4K persons liked this video. It is the best of your documentaries that I've seen on KZfaq giving insight into one of Hollywood's greatest directors. Only William Wyler and perhaps Howard Hawks can be compared with John Ford. He made so many great films it would be hard to narrow them down into a Top 10 List.

Wonderful documentary! Thank you again Jerry! The finest education any aspiring director could get would be to watch all of John Ford's films, multiple times, and carefully analyze each scene. Before making "Citizen Kane" Orson Welles watched "Stagecoach" 39 times! Before making any new movie, Steven Spielberg says he always watches "The Searchers" again, and sometimes with multiple viewings. The way Ford can have a scene tell a story, without a word being spoken, is an absolute masterclass in movie making. There have been quite a few GREAT directors, but John Ford is in a class ALL by himself. He is truly a "Director's Director".

As always, Mr. Skinner, a very well done biography. John Ford, definitely stands as the icon of an era. His personality, sins exactly like my grandfather; hard-nosed, demanding, decorated WW2 veteran, care-taking, duty-bound, cruel, and prickly. But I loved and respected him, anyway. There are many of Fords films here, that I've seen, but many I haven't. I plan to binge watch next weekend.
