Jin was approached by those companies due to his looks, but please don't take it into heart, cause there's so much more to him! His singing is gorgeous, and as the oldest, he's essential for the group dynamics!

Jin has literally won so many awards and accolades for his looks. Not just in Korea, where he fits "traditional korean beauty standards", but also worldwide. Groups have visuals, those that get people interested in the group because of their looks. Jin's acting could have also been something BigHit was interested in. The storytelling they have done with him and the others is phenomenal.

I'll start off with Bang SiHyuk's background. So, Bang PD/Bang Sihyuk/'Hitman' Bang was a well-known and respected producer. He went to Kyunggi Highschool, deciding then that music was his life and knowing that he needed to learn all he could, he did grow up in a musical home BUT, his parents were against him pursuing it- Honestly this is something that we able to connect with a few members of BTS on.. like Namjoon, Suga, and J-Hope. Anyway, Bang Si-Hyuk went to Seoul National University where he made a lot of friends and learned and refined his skills, he also debuted as a producer while in University when he met and worked with his friend- Park Jin-Young... aka JYP, THE JYP who founded JYP Entertainment (one of the famed previously BIG 3 companies). When JYP founded JYPE, Bang worked for him and he found sucess as a writer, producer, composer. He found this immense success and reputation from working on music for first gen Boy Group- G.O.D. JYP and Bang Si-hyuk were responsible for G.O.D's debut album and it was very successful. Bang was awarded multiple awards for god's songs- 'One Candle', and 'Road' , one of those awards was the 'Hit Makers' award, after that... people nicknamed Bang Si-Hyuk- 'Hitman' Bang. That nickname stuck and he still uses it to this day. Bang saw how companies ran the artists rugged... how most companies didn't allow their artists to actually write or have a say in things. This wasn't just his criticisms for JYPE, but a lot of other companies he saw and got to know. So, Bang decided a Few years into the early 2000's that he wanted to do something different. So, he opened his own Entertainment company in 2005- BigHit Entertainment. That same year he trained his first batch of trainees with no trainee system and debuted them in 2007 as a three person co-ed group- called 8Eight. They disbanded years later but Lee Hyun remained with the company and is a solo artists, he is also the only consistent big Brother that BTS had from when they were trainees to now. BigHit then debuted 2am which was a counterpart to JYP's 2pm, both groups would join together and form a group called- One day. 8Eight and 2am had success, 2am was more successful as they were more popish but they did do ballads. The only 'scandal' Bang Si-Hyuk got caught in was with the girl group he tried to debut called GLAM. First, one of the trainees proved to be a sasaeng(obsessed fan) of a member from another group in another company. That company brought it to Bang's attention and the girl was fired before she could even debut. She went on to make a youtube channel and try to talk crap about BigHit. Then, GLAM debuted and two girls, because they thought they'd be super successful and have brand name stuff and make a lot of money.... they ended up going out drinking with a pretty famous actor in Korea and they tried to blackmail him. Both girls got jail time and GLAM disbanded. I felt bad for the two girls in the group who didn't do anything, but I think they went on to other companies, and I believe one of them debuted with another group. So, that was really the only 'scandal' he got caught in, and it was for 2 girls in his girl group, and one girl who was a trainee... BigHit stopped Auditioning girls after that, untill they bought Source Music and created BeLift Labs, and then bought Pledis and I think two other Labels who are now all under HYBE. And they will be debuting 2 new girl group this year 1 in Source and 1 in BeLift Labs. I will note that this situation lost him a lot of money, and almost made it so that BTS couldn't debut. Since this comment is super long, I'm going to just add that Jin was auditioning to be an actor, he didn't audition to be an Idol. He thought he was going to be an actor- As an Entertainment company in Korea- these companies don't just manage and produce for musical artists. If you look at any Entertainment company you can find they also manage actors, actresses, and models as well. Some even support fashion creators and will manage them as well to an extent. Jin was good looking, He was seen by the university and after a simple talk, the scout for BigHit knew his major was in acting. So... naturally he wanted Jin to audition. Jin's face and body has been examined by scientists and he has perfect body proportions as well as a perfect face. His face is the most symmetrical. There was a rumor that another member got this award, but it wasn't, Korean Media did a whole piece, interviewing multiple specialists who said SeokJin of BTS has the 'perfect' face. It wasn't till he joined the company, that Bang thought.. hey, let's see if he's willing to be an Idol. ARMYs will correct the misinformation or delve into the stuff that was only briefly touched on. Thank you again for taking the time to get to know BTS, their story, their Journy. I hope I could provide the answers you were seeking. 💜💜💜💜

This is an awesome summary of some backstory on both Bang PD & Jin. I’ll also add that Pang PD majored in Aesthetics at Seoul National University (which also happens to be 1 of 3 of the most prestigious universities in South Korea). I think knowing about his major is just so interesting given just how beautiful BTS performances and music videos can be. Makes me wonder if his background may have also played a role.

@@elisiagoncalves6773 - For sure, Elisia. Bang’s background had everything to do with his commitment to concepts and high production values for both the albums and the MVs. Let us remember that Aesthetics is actually a branch of PHILOSOPHY. Consider Blood Sweat & Tears as an example. It shows how artistically ambitious Bang’s vision was and his ability to appreciate, resonate with and support RM’s literary interests (Hesse, Murakami, and later Jung). Another thing that may be attributed to his background is his understanding that they needed not just good producers such as PDogg, and Docskim, on board (both classically trained, based on what I inferred from their work on BS&T and LIE), but also a talented choreographer who would nurture the boys, and an intelligent film director to produce their MVs, namely LUMPENS. I believe it is this combination of excellence that supported our 7 artists, like midwives delivering the BTS that we know today.

The kpop industry has a HUGE Japanese market so learning Japanese is usually a normal part of the entertainment company’s idol training programs, most groups will go on to have Japanese albums and songs to promote in Japan. Nearly all South Korean idols end up learning Japanese and English to some extent. The talent honestly blows my mind

Jin is a revelation in the group. Aside form his good looks, he has that "innate" talent in him that was just waiting to be discovered and BigHit was able to uncovered that hidden talent. Jin came from a wealthy family and embrace the trainee days. So humble and down to earth. He is a caring and loving hyung to all his members like when they were still in training and they lack funds and resources he would randomly treat all his members to dinner paying with the credit card his mom gave him while he was away for training. When JK was still studying he would prepared JK's school meals and would drive JK to school, and he also feeds him more often. When JK almost wanted to quit BTS because he misses his mom, Jin's love made him stayed. He was treated as a real family at Jin's house whenever Jin would bring him to his house.

so as a jin biased I had to stop video to make this comment. yes he was approached cuz he is extremely good looking. his nickname is worldwide handsome cuz he goes viral everywhere bts goes, non fans asking who he is. he went viral as third guy from left, zoom in guy, car door guy, the guy in orange suit and .... he was declared most perfect face in the world, best sculpted face in the world and they even sculpted his face in crystal, world #1 naturally art face, most good looking man in the world, most handsome asian, most handsome man in the world 2019, golden ratio, best visual of kpop, visual king and ... but he isnt just his looks. even tho he didn't have any musical experience he is the most critically acclaimed vocalist of group now. he is a powerhouse vocalist known for his incredible strong high notes. he is also skilled actor but all that aside these arent the only reason he is my bias. he might be years younger than me but his personality is to look up to. jin personality helped me be happy. he love being positive and spread positivity. he say making others happy makes him happy. he has a strong personality that I love. I will stop cuz I can go on for days but u probably won't enjoy me talking much. one day if u wanted to try to know them individually try the video: jin influence and love for bts and their thoughts of jin by seokjinie zone. There are strict beauty standards in South Korea, for men and women. Kpop groups have official “visuals”, those men or women who most closely epitomise those beauty standards - and Jin was approached for that reason, he is considered remarkably handsome in his own country (his worldwide handsome gag originated because he thought it was hilarious that he was still considered handsome in western countries), I guess they figured they could teach him to dance and sing or rap well enough to be in a group - they wanted his good looks. Luckily, it turned out, with a lot of work, Jin has a beautiful, powerful voice, he is a good dancer, and his personality has made him such a vital component of BTS - he is much loved 💜

It’s so interesting to hear Jin sing, because his voice holds so much emotion into it. I get goosebumps from his solo songs. Jin in their early days was extremely shy and only started becoming more comfortable with himself during the ‘Fire’ era. Introducing himself as Worldwide Handsome is not only funny and cute, but served as a way to boost his confidence (in a non-narcissistic way), given his shy personality.

Yes they sing all in Japanese, too. It's basically a career MUST because Korea isn't really a big enough market for music artists to stay lucrative, and Japan is the 2nd largest consumer of Kpop after Korea Last year BTS made history (again!) as the first & only artist to chart on Billboard with hits in *3* different languages (Korean: "Life Goes On"; Japanese: "Film Out"; English: "Dynamite") 💜💜💜

23:34 You are correct about how brave & dangerous it was for them to write songs that went against the Korean government the education system the music industry the media & calling out the generation before them who created the problems youth is going through. As well as empowering them to do something to change the system. It’s exactly what the youth craved & Bang PD gave them a voice to be heard & understood with this new “hip hop group”💜

So Bang Si-Hyuk aka Hitman Bang, before being CEO of BigHit, worked as a composer, producer, etc and worked closely with Park Jin-Young (aka JYP -- a singer songwriter from the mid 90's, but is also CEO of his own entertainment company, JYP Entertainment, JYPE). When JYP made JYPE, Bang joined in and helped produced some of the biggest hits of the time, hence Hitman Bang hehe. He eventually left JYPE and decided to create his own company: Big Hit Entertainment. It has recently been rebranded as HYBE (you'll see the difference between old BTS music video intros and current ones), and I believe he also stepped down as CEO to focus more on the music aspect for the groups. (people, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) The status now may be different, and admittingly I haven't been into the kpop scene much, but back in the day, early/mid 2000's maybe, there was something we called the big 3, which were the 3 biggest entertainment companies: JYP Entertainment, YG Entertainment (YG was mentioned at the beginning of the video), and SM Entertainment. The other video by xCeleste mentioned that BigHit didn't have the influence/power over broadcasting, and that is because bigger companies that has more money and has better status would get priority, partially as to not ruin their connection with them. There are other entertainment companies as well, but in terms of being known and having successful artists (plural), Big Hit wasn't up there. When BTS first won awards, people couldn't believe it because we were so used to a group from one of the big 3 to win awards. People within the fandom, especially those in Korea, are very intense when it comes to their support for their group, and unfortunately that also leads to bashing or slandering other groups, and sometimes even create fan wars. Regarding Jin's story, in case it might've confused you, there are people from entertainment companies that "scout" people on the street or wherever. If they see some sort of potential, or if the person is really good looking, they try to reach out to them, give them the company card, and see if they're interested in auditioning to sign either as an actor, model, musician, etc. Not sure about the actor/model, but for music, they do go through intense training (singing and dancing) with monthly evaluations. They will do projects or performances group/partnered with other people to see if there's a potential chemistry there. Through this process, which usually takes years (some people are trainees even for 8 years because they started young), there are groups that will debut. Even for BTS, it wasn't these 7 that were set, there were other people that were training with them that didn't make it through the cut. The song that played that you're asking about, it's the Intro to their single debut album 2 COOL 4 SKOOL (2013). It's about a minute long so you're more than welcome to listen to it :D You're not alone in your reaction to RM's presence. My first time seeing them was their dance practice for No More Dream and We Are Bulletproof Pt2. Without knowing the roles, just seeing how he was in the group and the choreography formation, I remember thinking, "This guy's a BOSS. He's probably the leader." I mentioned this in the comment of one of your other videos, but you're not wrong in fans being defensive, but because you're learning, I think it's fine for you to make observations and comments (you're not being rude about it anyway). The thing is, a lot of newer fans will watch videos like these (the BTS 101-type videos) and regurgitate info. The whole green screen thing, I will say was because of Fake Love. When BTS was becoming more known in North America, their song Fake Love came out, and the scenes are incredible. People watching questioned if it was CGI but to many people's surprise, very minimal. Almost everything was real. And because of this, fans are going around saying, "They don't use green screen" but this is where they're jumping the gun -- because of 1 music video, fans are saying something as fact. Regarding them singing Japanese, a lot of these artists also promote in Japan as well as China, so they do learn some Japanese and Chinese as well to be able to speak a bit on interviews or shows. They have Japanese version of some of their songs, but they also have songs that are available only in Japanese. P.s - That sweater looks really good, really comfy :)

The Idols industries aren’t exactly just for music, they are there for entertainment like variety shows and k-dramas. Jin probably fit the korean beauty standards that’s why his position in BTS is as the visual. The visual is not just the eye catching one, but they usually go the award shows representing the brand and host several shows and also acts as MC’s on TV. But don’t get fooled. He wasn’t tone deaf or anything, during auditions he show vocal potential, he could carry a tone, he just wasn’t trained. He improved A LOT and has a beautiful range and sings beautifully.

Becoming a trainee is like getting into college. The college gives you an education, but only those who work hard enough, get a diploma. Same with modeling agencies, or sports clubs - that make money on fees, so they'll recruit anyone. But they'll try to recruit kids with the most potential because a successful trainee means more money for the agency.

The KPop groups are open and honest about members being selected as "visuals". If you watch some of the earlier BTS reality shows like Hustle Life you will see that Jin was always insecure as he felt he was less talented than the other guys especially in dance. But he worked so hard and he has such a humble personality and is now a great dancer and singer. This could have so easily devolved into a toxic situation. Jin inspires me.

This is one of my favorite documentaries. So a few points, they mentioned American Hustle Life, I wont tell you what happens in the first episode , but everyone who has watched it was angry with what they did to the boys. Even the second episode in parts were cringy but if you can get past the anger the rest of the series is worth watching so please do. Also with I Need U they use the word girl , but RM said the word girl used to be friend but it didn't work when singing the chorus so he changed it to girl but it doesn't necessarily mean they were talking about a girl. Also many of their songs are not gender specific or about romatic relationships such as boy and girl because they want to leave all their songs up to interpretation to cover everyone such as friend relationship which most believe I Need U was about their friendship and it helps others relate to the songs. As for singing in Japanese yes they do, some great song are Crystal Snow and Your Eye Tell which both show case the vocals. What i do like most about BTS they cover all genres of music but they make it relatable by leaving things up to interpretation. Like their songs about loss, it could mean any sort of loss not just about death. I just woke up and thought I'd watch this before I get more sleep before my shift, sorry I babbled on lol I tend too. Thanks for giving your thoughts on this great group of artists , we can see you already loved them like we do. Look forward to your part two.

Another good series to watch is called The Rise of Bangtan. It's created by a channel of the same name, and it currently has 19 or 20 episodes so far. The person who creates it actually went to school to be a video editor, so these videos are top notch quality. They go further in depth of the boys, including old video logs from before debut and after, behind the scenes footage, little fun fact/info cards on the side to explain things, and more. And each "chapter" of the series is named after a song that BTS have made. I believe the title of the series is actually a nod to their song "Attack on Bangtan" from O!RUL8,2?

What a lot to comment on here. Firstly, casting off the street was common in the early days of Hollywood and in the early days of K-Pop. It isn’t so common nowadays. Jin would’ve been cast for his looks as was SHINee’s Minho. They picked a gem in Jin. He had so much talent hiding under his looks. Namjoon is the group leader but he’s called, The President, by ARMYs. We think he’d make a damn good president. They were treated very badly in American Hustle Life but V met the lady on whom Sister Act was based and she praised his soulful vocals and gave him a lot of confidence. His parents weren’t farmers but his grandparents were and he lived with them for a major period of his life. His dad would visit him on the farm at weekends and was very supportive. Just One Day is a beautiful, gentle song. Make sure to watch the dance practice as well as the mv for that. I believe that they did more than one take for, Save Me, but it was all done in one day in atrocious conditions. The poor cameraman was trying to dash around them in the strong wind. I think they did several one takes if you see what I mean. You can find the making of that on KZfaq. It has a companion song called, I’m Fine. Watch them live and you’ll see one transition into the other. Hitman Bang used social media to bring BTS to the attention of potential fans. The company was failing so didn’t have the money to buy it’s way into shows like the big companies did. It’s why we are blessed with so much footage of them. They had to learn to live with cameras on them all the time. They even sometimes shot them when they were sleeping and washing off their makeup. The funny thing about calling Taehyung, V, is that it’s a sound that isn’t present in the Korean language so it comes out like, ‘Pwi’ or ‘Bwi’ unless they’re concentrating. Lastly a lot if English speakers want BTS to do a whole album in English but much as I love Dynamite, Butter and PTD, I think they are at their best in Korean and it makes it so much more fun to have to find out what they’re singing about and learn to sing the Korean with them.

Jin has classically handsome features and really nice body proportion (narrow waist, long legs, wide shoulders) according to Korea's strict beauty standards. For example, the clips you saw of him at college were filmed by girls who thought he was handsome. He wasn't famous then. Tourists would even randomly ask him to take pictures with them. His looks are what got him approached It's kind of like how Rock Hudson was cast back in the day when a producer said "Even if he can't act at all he'll be nice scenery. People were willing to take a chance on him because if he could sing at all and looked like that they'd have a star. Luckily Jin is a super hard worker and ended up having a lot of natural talent.

Jin was approached because he is goodlooking, tall, broad shouldered. He is the visual of the group. Bang Shi-Hyuk is called Hitman Bang because he made his name in the industry for a hit maker, he was the master of writing/producing ballads. The song you mentioned was the jingle on the website for the debut. In order to sell well in Japan as a foreign group, you either have to sing in English or Japanese. Period. A lot of Korean bands learn Japanese and release Japanese versions of their songs. The Japanese versions (and original) songs of BTS hit differently, they are good and all can even converse casually in Japanese. So they even had Billboard early 2020 with three songs in three different languages, English, Korean and Japanese - Dynamite, Life Goes On and Film Out. a song for an OST of a Japanese remake of a Korean series) .

Just starting this video, and I relate so much to your conundrum/the difficulty of introducing BTS to those who aren't in the know and those who are in that (almost default) position where they're ready to dismiss or ridicule a "boy band"... and the impossibility of expressing how BTS is not just any old boy band, and not even just a darn good boy band. They are a phenomenon - they have this ability to get to our hearts and souls (and funny bones). I was reading the hundreds of comments on the 'tell me your BTS story" video and it was just an incredible collection of personal experiences. It's so touching to hear how these 7 young men have impacted so many of us directly. I don't think even BTS themselves realize the extent of it. I will say that so many of us never even expected to fall for a music group, let alone one from S. Korea featuring 7 equally charismatic members. And unless you've fallen for them, you just won't get it - and it'll strike you as ridiculous (I probably felt that way before BTS found me!) But here we are, and I feel proud and actually blessed to love and admire and respect them. Anyway, don't worry - soon enough, you'll be able to recognize each one just from the back of their heads, or their shadow or a part of their hands (not 100% success rate but we make pretty good educated guesses, lol). Also, can't wait until you get to their B-sides and other tracks (like House of Cards, 134340, Rain [from the Dark & Wild album], The Truth Untold, Don't Leave Me - which is one of their Japanese-only songs, meaning there's no Korean version, but it has this line "I want to know everything" which is exactly what you said at the end of this video, haha). I love their main title tracks but it's their B-sides (and solo work) that really showcase the diversity in style and genre - and each member is just so darn unique, it's pretty incredible they're all in one group. Hard to deny that destiny brought them together and created this phenom.

I also think that the auditioners know their job, they can smell the potential.

HELLO! 💜 Yes, the Korean music industry, especially kpop artist, including BTS, releases special albums in Japanese, because the Japanese market is the second largest music market behind USA

Bang Si Hyuk ( hit man bang) is a prolific songwriter for at least 2 decades. His passion for music is how he decided to start his own company, so his groups can do music ( not traditionally k pop school way) that why he resign a head of Hybe to concentrate on music. The only ones who did music was RM & Suga, the rest learned to rap and sing. J hope & jimin had dance training, but no singing or rap. And Jungkook was only 13 yrs old when he joined and debuted at 15. Korea has the highest suicide rate for teens. The last test kids take ( it decides which college you go to) they go to high school 9-4, then they go to after school study for the test till 10 pm. If a kid doesn’t do well and get into a college, most think suicide is the only options they have. That’s why BTS went after the school system. When you do Spring Day, you need to watch the Italian Army explanation of the song. Yes they have 3 albums in Japanese ( when they have a concert in Japan, they sing all the son in Japanese) when the go to another Country they try to learn the language (Spanish, Chinese and Russian) there are also videos of them making there music videos, which shows all they build for there music videos.

You are correct. Everything is symbolic. And all the changes are a journey. These are some of the things that others don't understand at all As a mother, it's like watching my kids grow and succeed.

Yep, Jin was cast off the street because of his looks. Unlike here where artists tend to get picked up by companies because of their musical talent, over there, they're of the opinion that it's possible to learn to be good at singing/rapping/dancing so, auditions aside, they're also always on the lookout for good-looking kids to train. Thing is, even if you're cast off the street like Jin was, you don't get a free ride. All it gets you is a chance to learn and prove yourself. If you can't cut it at singing/rapping and dancing, you're still cut like everyone else who were judged to be not good enough. Japan is one of the hugest consumers of K-Pop. The market is big enough that K-Pop groups put out Japanese albums that consist of all Japanese songs or more commonly, Japanese versions of their existing Korean songs along with some original Japanese songs. BTS has several of the latter type of albums. This includes new album covers, new concept photos, new merch and new mvs. Due to them having to promote in Japan, the Japanese language is included among the lessons they're taught as trainees. The version of Mic Drop that you(and many other ppl) are familiar with is the Steve Aoki remix. The beat's faster and the lyrics have more English than the original that you saw a clip of in this doc. Due to the language shift, the lyrics are slightly different. Mic Drop is actually a b-side so it doesn't have an mv but because they let Steve Aoki remix it, they made an mv for that version. The Warren G version mv that we shall not talk about is cringetastic 🤣. If you end up watching American Hustle Life, you'll get to see him and BTS interacting. You might also enjoy the collab that he and RM did titled, "P.D.D" YESSSS!!! Congratulations! You just caught your very first BU reference!! Or half of one, anyway! Not many ppl catch the Nirvana shirt reference nor its significance. Just so you know what to expect with Big Hit/HYBE and why ARMY are all paranoid and conspiracy theorists when it comes to BTS, the Nirvana shirt is in the Run mv. Run is on The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 2 album. As you noted, V is wearing the Nirvana shirt in the water, referencing Nirvana's Nevermind album. There's a song on The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 2 album titled, "Intro: Nevermind". Yeaaah. 🤪

It's 4:22 right now in my country. I wake up early in the mornings, do a little bit of stretching (I am lazy to work out) and start the day. I may be damn emotional but the "Hey buddy"s with the cup in the beginning made tears come to my eyes no lies. Now let the day begin☀️💜
