My daughter reluctantly agreed to go see the Coldplay (with Jin) in Argentina movie with me but as we sat there she kept saying "I know this song." "I know this song too" "HOW DO I KNOW ALL OF THEIR SONGS?!" I think the unconsious bias against Coldplay comes in some part because they have been the background music for a lot of us for so long. It got to the point that we stopped seeing them for the cool band they are. I knew exactly what you meant when you brought it up. I'm glad BTS let us see them in a new light! Thanks Roscoe!

I remember way back, near the beginning of watching you, you had made a comment of not liking Coldplay. I am glad to see you were open to looking closer. It is like so many westerners don’t like BTS, yet never gave them a chance. I am a silver Army, and my sons could not understand when I started listening to them. Then the obsession grew, and they thought I had lost my mind. My sons are in their 30s, and we had always shared our love of music by sharing cds, going to concerts together, and talking about music. That all came to a skreeching halt. All of a sudden I was alone, and had no one to share my passion with. I did not know anyone who liked BTS. Thank God for the internet! My oldest son was a music major in college, and I think he felt it was beneath him to listen to BTS. He would tell me, he missed the old me, where we shared music and our deep conversations about music. That hurt. Fast forward to the Coldplay concert in the cinemas. I asked him to go with me. He likes some of Coldplay, so I didn’t have to coerce him. I did not tell him about Jin being there to do a song. We had a blast singing and dancing to the concert. Then Jin comes out. Then he knew. He didn’t mind the song! But when My Universe came up, I was singing, and I stopped and realized my son was singing- at the top of his lungs, AND he knew all the words! I said to him, this is a BTS song! He said I know. You made me watch the video. I liked it, and have been listening to it ever since, it’s one of my favorite songs! I just about fainted. He never told me! So then the World Cup came, and he came over to watch it. When Jk came on to sing, I never said a word. He said, I know about this song, I already looked it up, and I like it- he did a good job. Again, flabbergasted, I knew something was changing. Then, when the BTS concert was in theaters, I asked him to go with me. I knew I was really pushing it at this point- a whole concert? All BTS? In public??? To my surprise, he immediately said yes! He now understands more, and even likes them more, although I can’t get him to admit he is a fan. But he is coming around! He no longer calls them a boy band. He is coming over tomorrow and I am going to show him Set Me Free. Can’t wait! Btw, my other son….. I have no hope of him ever sitting through a BTS song. But that is okay, because at least I have one person I can talk to face to face about BTS! I am happy!

I feel like I need an update on this story. What has happened since this comment? Has your oldest son continued to explore BTS? What did he think of Set Me Free? What about your younger son? Did he ever agree to listen to any BTS songs or watch any of their music videos? I hope they have both been opened minded and willing to look into a group that you care so much about

I'm a Coldplay fan so I love that they got together with my lovely boys. I saw a doco about Coldplay some time ago and in it they said that one of the factors of their longevity is that, unlike some of the other bands at the time, they didn't do drugs. Also, each one had an equal voice in their decisions and, after an incident when Will left and then came back, Chris said they realised they were it, they were going to stay together and felt more like a family than just a band. I'm not surprised they got on so well with BTS because they have similar values. Love this video and love your reaction to it, your enthusiastic responses to the parts that move you, and how you point out details that I miss. You're not done yet - you should react to the BTS behind-the-scenes video of the making of the mv. So much to love there but special mention goes to Hobi's freestyle dance break - beautiful! Of course they flashed on parts of it in the mv but not enough! Never enough!

He realized how prejudiced the world is against them and he didn't like that. Chris Martin had some interviews - also in my country - where they only wanted to give credit to him and Coldplay while downplaying BTS and he and the other bandmembers were not having any of that. I so loved that!

Coldplay - one of the most precious collaborations along with Halsey. I believe BTS have welcomed both of them, into the family inner circle and v.v. They vocally express genuine, continious care and support of eachother - that's rare, but such a pleasure to see and know!🤞💜 A lovely perceptive reaction Roscoe and it's *great* to see YOU enjoying yourself too

One of my favourite collabs and it has been lovely to see the respect and recognition from both sides continuing after promo has ended. Nothing warms out hearts more than lovely ppl being genuine and authentic. Love it. And for Coldplay to speak so warmly of BTS and even defending them against western media has solidified them as true allies in my mind. That weird prejudice against Coldplay I think may be just something that occurs with artists who are massively popular and successful and 'mainstream' but with no scandals. Like too good to be true so society kinda smirks at them? They're viewed as being pandering cloud pleasers just Becos their songs are always hits but they lack an 'edginess' that for some ppl would make them a more 'real' artist? I dunno. I liked Coldplay but was never really an active fan. But seeing how they are make me like them even more. Good guys all round.

This song saved me from falling into deep depression at the time, after more than a year of big anxiety and being isolated from the world. I’ve always loved Coldplay, went to as many of their concerts as I could. That song is the exact moment I discovered BTS and I will forever be grateful for it. I actually got emotional rewatching this with you. Thank you! 💜

Regarding Coldplay, listen - I was a huge fan when they first came out. I still think Parachutes is one of the best albums EVER, I have all the b-sides, and previous LPs, I collected all of their music, different versions, etc... until their second album. I even met my husband on their website's fan message board back in 2002!! I saw Coldplay in Paris that year, and it was amazing. Then, X&Y came out and it wasn't the same. They became too big, the music just wasn't the same. I stopped following since. I think what turned me off was Chris' marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow - it was too Hollywood-y for me. IDK. I know it's super shallow but I was so bummed out. I think that's when they became "a joke" for a lot of people. Then, I got into BTS in like what, 2019? I was the first one surprised! I DO NOT follow big pop artists, with this big of a fanbase! lol For me, the more obscure the better! haha Anyway, their collab' brought me back to the early 2000s when I was obsessed with Coldplay - it was two seasons of my life colliding! I then rediscovered Chris Martin and thought "Yeah, he's still a good one" So, I have to thank both groups for that - it broke a little bit more of my biases. Love that! Anyway, I'm not done with watching this reaction, I stopped at 6:39 to say this! Back to watching, now!

Yay! So glad you did the documentary! It makes the song even more special when you know how it came about and that they worked on it together in person and during the pandemic. They did get to do this live a few times - once at one of their concerts Day 4 I believe in LA Nov 2021, once at AMA's also Nov 2021, and I think once in New York, but it was a small setting - maybe Chris' studio because there were a lot of instruments sitting around. I think the order was the reverse of what I just wrote though.

This collab and bond that was created is truly so unique and meaningful. I didn't have any negative opinion against Coldplay prior to this, but I'd also just never paid attention to them. This collab instantly made me a fan of Chris as a human being. Eventually we got to see the whole band with BTS and you can tell that they're all just so great with each other. I'll never forget the mutual love and support our fandoms shared when this came out. It was just the most wh9olesome time to be on Twitter! And knowing that this eventually led to Jin working with Chris on The Astronaut and performing as a guest at Coldplay's concert, just really touches my heart deeply.

Ah - for some reason I couldn't edit my comment! So here I am I agree they meet for the first time as if they have been old friends, and it is so warm and lovely. But I think the fact that they will have been in contact for a few months before this first meeting helps, and also, they are all musicians with respect for each other, by this time they know they share a philosophy, their staff have met both each other and other the bands, and they have prepared the path. However, I think musicians, actors and other creative collaborators (because music and also acting are collaborative in ways other arts seldom are) often have to build a skillset to facilitate communication to understand each other at a deeper level than simply social interaction..Not all such creatives are always true collaborators, but it seems from this that both Coldplay and BTS are similar. There's not an ego in the house - what is important is the quality that is made, not who made it. That has a lot to do with why they worked so well together and made such great friendships almost immediately. I love them all for it.

7:00 Coldplay is one of the most hated groups there is xD Coldplayers keep receipts. I was playing My Universe and Higher Power at home last year, my kids and me love them (Daddy broke me back then, the whale again). My parents were here, my father is super chill (usually) with music and likes everything (he's a huge Rolling Stones fan and went last year to their concert in Madrid with my mom), but my mother is the toxic type (always has been) and instantly did a :( face and said "coldplay is stupid, I hate them". Just like that. I asked "why?", "because, do I have to like them?"... When I have inspiration days I play to my kids everything: from MJ discography (MVs too), Mariah Carey, Whitney, Celine, Roxette, Iron Maiden, (my JP bands and a lot of artists) and we don't hate anything, we can like more or less and "moooom, why do you know ALL the songs in the world???" but I have been dealing with "hater" types all my life since I got absorbed by Japanese culture (especially music). Not saying you are a hater, you don't go into forums or twitter to spread hate and behave like a troll, but a lot of people hate (with all four letters) things they don't even know about. You would say BTS-hate is xenophobia, but... what is Coldplay-hate? Brit-rock-pop-phobia? As for myself, I really love and loved Coldplay songs, I even went to one of their concerts back in 2009 (?). I was never a fan (I don't own any of their albums if that counts, and I do have the money to do so), but I like/d what they put out through the years. And you are doing it right, buddy, ALWAYS, ALWAYS reevaluate your inner thoughts, your own conclusions, your own opinion about something :)

I think before BTS we did not go in the depth of other artists songs or what they stand for. A song was "just" a song.. With BTS we had to look op lyric, goth to know each member, goth to know what they stand for. and because it is spread all over the world we saw the love from other people to help all of us who where new to this world.

I think your preconceived impression of Coldplay comes from this innate instinct people have that when something is really big or really popular, it is somehow hollow and commercial/manufactured, you are skeptical of "how good are they really," so you start to look for the negatives to justify that belief. Most of that ends up being unconscious and developed over time without us necessarily realizing it. It is the same thing many people who haven't really dived into BTS feel before they really take a critical look at them. I think in some ways, it is driven from a place of rebellion against conformity. Or... it could mean none of those things, lol.
