When I was a kid, in the late 80’s, I wanted one of these so bad. Because, to me, it was like a Kirby made for kids. But my mother wouldn’t buy me one.

When I was a kid, these were one of my favorite vacuums. Always wanted one.

My friend Julie had a casual one bedroom apartment with wooden floors in the 1980s. Her only rug was a cotton woven area rug. She had one of these and a little Dirt Devil Can Vac which was like a Port-a-Power on wheels or a Mighty Might and she kept a beautiful home. These were like mini Kirbys or Royal all metal Professionals but without the metal and technically they were designed more like Hoover Juniors it Goblins of the time but they were very effective. Lovely little machines.

If the bag fades. Dye it with Dylon Tulip Red fabric dye. I did it on a Dirt Devil Handy bag and worked really well. Brought it back to the original dark red colour.

I have a 1992 Broom Vac and I love it. A great little machine that packs a punch.

The motor slow down more than likely is the front motor bearing needing some cleaning. Also the squeaking is the brush roll bearings having issues spinning (those are cheap bearings). I have a video of fixing up the blue version of this vacuum with oiling the bearings and how to clean it up :)

Diet devil used to be an arm of royal here in the us. Had one of these (found at a yard sale), it was the pre curser of cordless. It worked, yes. But us greedy people wanted more and without a cord. (I'm a baby boomer, hate change but it happens, even with vacuums, that's why i collect vintage ones)

I have a Dirt Devil handy and an Oreck handheld vacuum. Both made in USA. I think older vacuums are more reliable, and better made.

You can put a hose in the opening to access the bellt on the front and the black door. my grandmother had one of those

Hey roger. There’s a tool that came with these for attaching the belt. It’s a black tube that you grab the belt with then you put the tube over the armature then turn it and the belt hooks on. I love my broomys the only issue I ever find with them is they can lift the brushroll off the carpet on the pull back if the bag is getting full with heavy dirt

Yours may vary but i measured a model 702 at about 62 cfm which would put it above some full sized bagless uprights, at least for flow. They're lovely little machines.

The original 701 Broom Vac, which I know you never got on your side of the Atlantic, its bag was little more than the size of a Dirt Devil hand vacuum. That would change with model 702, whose bag was doubled from three to six quarts.

I was bidding against you on this, glad its gone to a good home as they are pretty rare now in the UK but there still seems plenty left in the US. Its basically an upright version of the dirt devil handy, its just bigger! I hope you like it as I will have to wait for another one now haha!

This reminds me of my grandmother's hoover turbo power total system with she had for a long time but it had bad dust leakage and then when she fixed it it started to smell like burning

Just ordered one of these vacuums from eBay hope it's as nice as yours is. Can't wait to use it. My old Hoover 541 is sadly in the shop they are going to try and replace the motor fingers crossed.

This reminds me of a dirt devil handheld we had some years ago. I am looking for one on Ebay. Something for my car, and just for nostalgia. They came out a little before my time. We also had a Hoover quik broom 3.6 amp. As of now I have five bissell sweepers, a 2100, a natural sweep 92n0, sturdy sweep 5232v, a 21013 sweep up, and perfect sweep turbo. I had a 2100 years ago bought it at a yard sale for 1 or 2 usd. Had a blast with it until a neighbor watching me at a young age wrecked it.

I know this cleaner is probably long gone and this adjustment cannot be made now. But I noticed that Roger meant to put the carpet brush roll wear adjustment with “2” facing up. But the right side of the bottom of the nozzle showed that it flipped back to 3 when he put it back in. So if you still have this roger, I suggest you fix that. Lol.

When I was little I was literally terrified by vacuums that looked like this for some reason...my mom said it was because of the movie "Mr.Mom" with the Kirby chasing the kids or whatever...lol She said one time we were in a restaurant and they were cleaning with the old style Kirby with the metal motor part and a orange bag that was really big when the vaccum was running and I was hysterical she had to take me out of the restaurant because I was so freaked out lololol

Not sure if you fixed it off camera but the right side of the brushroll was set to setting 3 and not 2 like the left side. Great video though, thanks!!

But in my experience, the various knick-knacks and such that I have rescued from comfortable hoses of recently deceased old ladies of of substance, generally smell of a mixture of Yardley's lavender perfume, some strange pot-pouris, napthalene mothballs and the ever so slight hint of stale geriatric urine. >

A metal wire wheel on a drill or one on a bench grinder makes for a quick job of cleaning brushes, I have found. Then again, it isn't a secret.
