This video shows the trip from the highest spot we could ride to at Gaff's Topsail to the community of Howley in eastern Newfoundland. It is an old railbed with some nice lookoffs along the way.
If riding dirtbike, its most enjoyable if you wear armored gloves. Even with the handguards, our fingers we constantly getting slapped by the bushes along the edge. Moving closer to the center would put us into gravel which was way too unpredicatble. If on an ATV, you will definatley get some rubbing fro the bushes so if you are a trailer queen, this may not be the ride for you.
And watch your turns... most are blind turns so you never know who you will meet on those turns.
Dress warmly. It it ALWAYS blustery at the top but the 360 degree view is worth it. We had to climb to the top in our biking boots which was somewhat challenging but no injuries.
Everyone is so friendly. On the way in, we ran into a gentleman on an ATV near the clump of camps around 2/3 of the ay in and had a nice long chat with him. Once they hear our mainland "accent", they want to know where you;re from, why we came all the way to NL to ride and have ride recommendations for us. Come to find out, my buddy and him had a common acquaintance. You never know who you will run into, even hundreds of miles from home.
