Today on Dirt Lifestyle, we are building your first fabrication project! I'm going to go into more detail on this project for those of you that are brand new to metal fabrication.
This video is for someone that has been practicing welding and is ready to start their first project. It's likely that your early projects will be bumpers, fenders or sliders. In this video I'm going to build some steel fenders for my car trailer but these basic principles can be carried to just about anything.
Don't get discouraged! Fabrication is fun and it doesn't need to look incredible! I just needs to be functional!
Thanks for watching 👊

Nice video. I’ve been welding for years but I’m finally about to buy my first plasma cutter. I’ve used one a few times years ago at a place I used to work for, but I am really looking forward to getting proficient at it. Keep the fabrication videos coming!...love em 👍🏻

On those large gaps I like to use a 10 penny nail . It's pointed so it fits right up into the hinge point too. Throw in some center supports and you got some drive over fenders.

Coming from a wood working background and just about to buy my first welding machine so I can fix stuff on the farm. I can’t say how much I appreciate the “small stuff” explanations. Experienced folks take for granted stuff they know and it’s really helpful for us noobs. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your videos and not sounding like a Chad, You explain everything and you really get things done. I see other welders that try and act like they know it all or like they're trying to compensate for something but you go slow. You take your time and you do it right. Thank you for showing us how it's done. I really appreciate your videos

Excellent video! I'm 72 years old, and after being without a shop for 30 years, I finally built one last year. Videos like this are very interesting. And thank God for Harbor Freight!! ;) I bought a multifunction welder, plasma cutter, etc. I also bought a portable band saw, like yours, for my Son for his birthday. Harbor Freight now has a band saw bracket where you can fasten your saw to a table, or even the wall. Keep up the good work!! And thanks for your time.

Video was well worth while to watch. These kind of jobs are definitely the meat and potatoes of Fab work. My opinion everything you showed us will translate to other more complex projects. Now the trick is to be able to make more videos that build off what we learned in this video. Great job by the way 😀👍👍

I appreciate you taking the time and sharing that this is a functional item and not a a pretty gussied up item. Don't be hard on yourself and get discouraged to even try because that is exactly what I do and its nice to have a reminder to just do something the best you can and it will work out and you will gain the confidence and experience to build other things even better.

Yeah Buddy, ok Nate this is just what I needed, I am that guy. I got a multi process welder and now I am trying to learn how to use it. Looks easy but not so much, I'm sticking metal together but it aint pretty seems like I spend more time grinding than welding. Focusing on flux core wire cuz I don't want to waste money on gas till my skills improve some. Trying to fabricate some type of rack for the jeep so I can haul my wife's kayak fairly light yet removable.
