I always love how you can only get like 1/16th of a turn on the hydraulic lines at the time so it takes you 16 times longer to tighten it. Turning the wrench into a line wrench was a good idea. That's why you never get rid of old tools you can modify them to the situation. I have bought spare wrenches and other hand tools at yard sales or flea markets so I don't have much in them if they need modifying.

Check the ground wire on that solenoid, it must go to the ECM uninterupted because the ECM turns the ground on and off. As you could tell when the ground was off the solenoid was energized until you pulled the fuse. So if the wire is good to the ECM then the ECM may be bad. 👍👍 👍👍☕☕🍩🍩.

Say Mike you need to take a look at adapting the Super Dust Deputy to work with the Harbor Fright dust collection system. You can get ideas on making a portable high powered shop vac system that doesn't clog filters and throw dust all around, on KZfaq.

Engineers expect hydraulics lines to last a lifetime based upon their ease of removal. Little tip to nab a cheap set of angle head wrenches from ole harbor freight and cut them in half. You can simply slip a cheater bar over the cut end for extra leverage but the wrenches are now short enough to get into those hard to access locations

I agree with the requirement for crows foot wrenches, trouble is they cost so much per set that most guys do not have all the wrenches that they might end up needing, (I exclude cheap sets with over bulky heads). PS you forgot the metric sets !

From watching South Main Auto Repair LLC channel he has had to chase down similar issues on cars, typically he would find a bare wire shorting causing power draw or shorted out switch, in your case it could be a bad solenoid, shorted internally or the brake pedal switch not disconnecting when you release the brake. Or a wire in between them. Just an idea, worse case scenario, the fuse panel is all green (not good) where the wires connect up on the back side. I am NOT an expert just someone who is offering ideas.

Belive it or not, I find it easier to go to the big box store and pick up multiple sets of those cheap "complete" mechanics tools sets in the blow mold cases specifically for long term projects. It's easier than ratting up your tools, cleaning them, and searching for something left out when you need it. I keep my good tools in the toolbox and know where I can find them but stuff like sockets and ratchets and some hand wrenches can be scattered over a project without having to collect them every time you need to walk away from it. It helps a lot when you need to do quick fixes or other things. I joke that each project has its own mechanic with their own tools and they borrow mine when needed. I must have two or the of thise sets floating around.

I had a cat d3 that had that same solenoid and was the circuit that released the parking brake. We had fought with a constant battery drain for over a year and the solenoid finally failed completely and we had to replace it . The d3 &d4 s are a nightmare to remove lines from under the floor and seat had to cut down open wrenches and cut a shaft that would slip over the stub of the wrench and allow us to strike it with a two pound hammer to break the fittings loose.

I'd play stupidly, remote a kill switch for that component that is draining the batteries. Of course it would be best to know its function. Another feeling would be to install constant charging on your batteries by adding one or more solar pannels on the roof of the cab! Might be worthwhile on all your equipment. Plus a poorly charged battery can cause up to a 20 hp drag on an engines alternator.
