One among many masterpieces by Scottish poet and singer-songwriter Ewan MacColl. Someday I'll be in London, just to say: Hello, dr K, and sing MacColl's Ballad of Accounting and Sweet Thames, flow softly. Thank you and cheers!

You got that right.

He was born James Henry Miller in Lancashire , England . I know it always sounds more romantic if it is Scotland or Ireland but the town that the song was about was a typical northern industrial town .

@@grosvenorclub Thank you for the reminder. I'm now learning a lot more about Ewan MacColl and his Scottish parents, and Ewan's or James' familiarity with Scottish stories and songs, surrounded by Scottish people while growing up in Salford, England. I've just found a nutritious forum called chiffandfipple with quotes from Peggy Seeger precisely about Jimmy's choice to adopt a "Scottish" pseudonym. Another song I like very much is "Mr Tambourine Man", by Robert Allen Zimmerman. Cheers and slán!

Absolutely loved the tribute to Shane McGowan with Dr K and Kezia Gill busking in London. Their talent truly brings the essence of "Dirty Old Town" to life in the heart of the city. A fitting homage to a legendary artist.

James Millier was born in Salford Lancashire and was originaly an Actor who used the stage name Ewan MacColl . Later when he started to write and sing folk songs he continued to use his stage name. This is one of his most famous songs; 'Dirty old Town' and was actually about his home town of Salford and was written for a play he had written in 1949 called; 'Landscape with Chimneys'. Though today most people think it's about Dublin after the Irish folk band the Dubliners recorded it. This just shows how music, art and culture is constantly shared on these islands between the four nations who live here.
