Sounds like you need to change the logo to "totally daft". Good effort. In June or July, you will need to sign up for Strathpuffer, that also sorts out the men from the boys! I'm surprised that tash and mullet did not get you through it. I think the dog is starting to grow a Fawcett tash too. 🤣

The conditions were particularly hard this year. I know of several riders (including myself) who dropped to a shorter distance on the day. You have to go back and do it in the sunshine, but leave the pork pies at home. ;-)

I've done the Dirty Reiver 200 4 times now, and I've seen good weather, bad weather, changeable weather - everything is absolutely brutal no matter what you get. The day it started at 5c and ended at 25c and clouds of dust everywhere made hydrating so hard... 3 bottles is staggering as I normally go through 5-6L of fluids throughout the day. Definitely one to aim for as many carbs as you can stomach like the latest GCN vid on fueling - 80-140g per hour and you'll feel better!

A brutally honest appraisal of how tough that really was- puts it into perspective for us mere mortals! Great effort to get round in those conditions, I’ve seen a lot of videos where others bailed on the 200k so kudos for sticking it out. Love all the content and great to see the dog in this one!

Same reaction here to the 1st wave bit. I was just on the next group, wasted lots of energy and never caught back anyway. We were in the same group for quite a while, then I missed a turn and got gapped off. I was in for 130 all along, and couldn’t fathom how much harder that must have been. Next year, 130 or 200, 1st wave is the priority.

I’m glad you brought up the Mel Gibson cos it was all I could see on that bit. Buffed up mullet - nobody needs to see that 😂 Brilliant effort anyway, a great vid and fair play to you for a hard day playing out on the bike! Top job and whilst pork pies might not be all the answer, they have to be part of it.

respect for seeing it through in grim conditions. i did the 200 back in 2018 in glorious weather: and like you i'd only go back in glorious weather. in all honestly, i think you should only "race" it if you prepared to race it over several months. i'm glad you have been honest about underestimating the route. its defo a massive ride to complete off road. enjoy your recovery. (i wonder how that fernwee fella got on who cycled there from newcastle and then did the ride the day after)

Had that leg lock up before in a cold reliability trial once and ended up in a up eating 6 rounds of cheese sandwiches and a pint of banana milk to try to come around... good times :0
