Hi guys. Thanks for all the likes and comments! I just want to clarify few things based on the comments. My mom did NOT wish any ill will on our baby. She doesn’t even know about the pregnancy, as far as I know. She was saying be careful about food that I consume because some grocery stores sell meat that has been tainted with bacteria. I’ve been hearing that from my mom since I was 15, so it’s not related to my wife feeding me bad food, or anything like that. The decision to not give Korean middle name for a girl is a compromise between myself and my wife. Sarah wants our daughter to be "mini Sarah", and I want our son to be "mini Justin". Sarah never had Korean middle name, so she doesn’t envision mini version of Sarah having a Korean middle name. However, I can envision mini Justin having Korean middle name because I have Korean middle name. Sarah’s original choice for our daughter’s a middle name was a name that I think is a "stripper name", but Sarah thinks it’s a very girly and beautiful name. We eventually settled on a name that I don’t think is a stripper name, and Sarah also thinks it's a beautiful name for her "mini Sarah".

Justin you are doing the right thing...your dad is caught in the middle, from his words he knows he wanted to be there for you and his grandchild. He was already accepting of your decision to marry. Actually kinda sad hearing your dad talk about feeling that his time is coming to an end sooner, I hoped you encouraged him to be positive as well and not think that way or ask why he feel that way. As for your mom, she's full of contradiction, she talks about how you should treat family, but she doesn't seems to see anything wrong with how she treats you and your wife. Your mom is being crazy for lack of a better word. Brace yourselves ...it may take time, but a baby can heal family wounds and serves as a bridge to reconciliation. Keep reaching out to your mom and sister and tell them that they will be a grandmother and an aunt in a few months and ask if they want to be part of his/her life, if they say no....let them be, but don't close your doors to the idea that they will eventually come around. Definitely don't lose your connection with your dad. Now your dad Sarah is another story, to disown someone in Islam is not that uncommon, I hope it isn't the case, good luck. Regardless...your love for your child will always be more important than what others will give, what you can't match is God's love for that baby and for all of us.

I don't understand why a korean middle name would be seen as a 'stripper' name in any situation... seems kinda ridiculous to me. I was born and raised in the US with a korean first and last name with an english middle name. I probably wouldn't have made it this far without having a name that reflects my full heritage. It may sound stupid, but it contributed to my drive, self-appreciation and awareness. Be that as it may, it's not my choice. However, I hope you can rethink your reasoning for not choosing to incorporate korean heritage into your (maybe) daughter's name. It affects a child more than one might think.

This couple is an exact representation of my life. I’m Asian who married a Latin girl. My parents did not approve, did not come to the wedding, did not come to the hospital for the birth of my son, did not come to my son’s first birthday party, and the list goes on and on. I feel for them. Move on with your life and cherish what you have with each other. I’ve wasted too much energy and time.

I listen to my parents and got married to a girl they picked from back home (Bangladesh) but after marriage, my parents told me not to call her, send her any money, and if she calls tell her I'm too busy to talk, etc... my parents lied to my wife's parents about everything which I had no knowledge. My parents wanted me to divorce my wife, after 2 weeks because they didn't get any dowry (money, car etc) my parents even took my wife's gold jewellery that we gifted her. I told my wife what my parents said to me and she was scared and hurt. I did tell her nothing is going to happen, I promised her. when I applied for my wife to come to Canada, immigration application was going well but then my wife gets her application pushed back with an interview but we didn't think anything because interview for immigration happens, time to time. the day of my wife's interview the officer tells her that someone send an email stating "she was married previously, her dad paid someone to get fake university transcript, so much more shit. on the letter the officer who interviewed my wife didn't tell her who send the letter but we know it was my parents because my parents took all my wife's documents right after we got married. it was so hard for us due to my parents, I don't talk to them much anymore.

I'm so sorry to hear about your story. I've heard similar stories of American, Canadian and British Asian men who marry women in their parents' homeland, get the dowry and abandon them. There's even a documentary on British Asian men abandoning their brides, leaving the women and their families destitute, and the women unable to remarry. I'm so glad that you did the right thing and support your wife. I'm praying that your wife gets her visa and join you. I'm wishing you two a blissfull and happy married life.

thank you, my wife is already Canada with me. we applied in march 2017, if my parents didn't send that latter to immigration my wife would have been with me in 5 months. but her application took whole year. the new gov is processing the application really fast for spouses. My wife's application was going so smooth back in 2017. there's is a form which the sponsor or the applicant can get from the immigration to see how far the application has gone. So I applied for the document and one of the immigration officers wrote "no interview required" but 3 day later they send my wife a email requesting a email but we didn't think it was bad, we thought we would just ask some questions. but on the interview my wife called me and started crying told me what they said, i was so hurt, i couldn't believe that my own parents would do this and try to destroy our life and make my wife feel so small and worthless all because they didn't get any money, even after i listened to them. i felt so embarrassed, her parents were crying on the phone. but now i don't even talk with my parents. they wouldn't even apologize for the mess they made.

His father said, “if the situation were different with your mom, I would have been there and enjoy the moment with you. But in the current situation I can’t do things like that.” This absolutely breaks my heart. Your father wants to be a part of you, your wife and your child’s lives but your mother is very, very bitter and mean. She abuses your father. PLEASE don’t hate your father or make him feel more guilty than he already feels. He feels absolutely terrible and understands his time is very short, especially with his age and possible sickness. Tell him you love him always; keep giving him photos of you and your beautiful family and pictures of his grandchild. I know he’ll appreciate it and they can possibly take some burden off of him. Just let him live in your lives secretly through pictures until he has enough strength to tell his bitter wife “enough is enough!”

his mother is not bitter and mean. she has hoped and dreamed and expected for years that her son would marry a traditional asian woman as per their cultural tradition. she is shocked and hurt and her dreams have been destroyed. in the asian culture that is a terrible crushing blow. in north america races and culture are very intermixed and its normal. Shock = fear ...fear = mad or depression. so thats why the mom feels the way she does. shes in a state of shock and fear and depression thats why she reacts with anger.

You should have your son's middle name be your father because that man is pushing through his fears of his own wife to try and be a father for you. Even though he can't do all he wants to, he sneaks away and does what he can to be there for his son in whatever small way he can behind his wife's back. That is a good father. Now he simply needs to be freed. He will die young due to the stress and drama otherwise... very sad...

moon light I am your 200 likes 💙 I agree his dad wants to embrace this but mom is holding him back. It's not fair we are in 2018 for goodness sake. These are beautiful people. I am a Mother and Nana of 10 grankids. I never gotten into my kids love lives. To be honest i dislike one of my sons wife's witchcraft crap but it doesn't fase me none if he wants her or not I'm going to be there for him (all 6 of my kids) no matter what. I get this vibe that the stubborest ones in this will soften up when baby comes. If mom doesn't come around then WoW. Her bitter heart and pride will kill her. She has to break the cycle now and accept that they LOVE one another. And all this time these youngsters have been PATIENTLY working hard to bring the families together. These kids are mature about this and i hope mom will at least stop saying things she'll regret later. I'll be waiting watching when she does cave in. I would... Just to see my grandkids I'd face any daughter in law even if she was Aileen Wuornos aka Monster. LoL honestly. Can't wait for their blog story to change in their favor with everyone happy, smiles and baby all over the place.

First, I would like to say that I truly admire the honor and respect you have for your parents. However, I don't think you all understand the depth of the problem you are facing. This is not about racism. This is about control. Your mother is used to controlling everyone around her. If you all don't understand the ROOT of the problem, you will keep trying to brainstorm solutions that will not fix the problem. Your mother will not give you approval until you stop seeking it. As long as she knows she is holding something you seem to need, she will keep withholding it. The day you begin to act like you would love her to be a grandparent, but don't need it to have a happy life with your new wife and family, will be the day that she begins to rethink whether she is right or wrong. She only believes she is right because everyone keeps tiptoeing around her reinforcing her rule. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG! And if you count yourself as a Christian, the Word of God says that as a married man you are no longer under the authority of your parents. Love your new family, and pray for your parents. THEN, you will see a change. Lastly, keep reaching out to your dad. The BEST thing you can do for him is to keep visiting him, smile, and show him how happy you are, because he clearly is not. Let him live vicariously through you and your new family. That is the best way to show him that you made the right decision. I wish you all the God's absolute best!

I'm going to have to agree with those saying that your mother is emotionally abusive and your poor father is abused and trapped. Some people are overlooking it because he's a man and also because they try to convince themselves that your mom's behavior is normal simply because of the culture. This is not normal or okay in ANY culture. It is complete racism and it's sad and disgusting. I wish there was a way to free your father and allow your mother and sister to stay alone, hateful a racist. But your dad wouldn't leave because he's a good man and feels he has a duty to be there for his wife. This is when I can't stand old traditions. I feel so bad for your Father.
@alexliu5806
@alexliu5806 5 жыл бұрын
Most people don't intentionally employ emotional abuse, but it's not uncommon in East Asian cultures for parents to expect filial piety from their children. Add that to the fact that all Asian countries are nearly homogeneous in terms of race, and the fact that the older generation will tend to be more conservative and you will receive this mixture. I feel that his mother is also trying to prevent him from leaving her for his marriage (as we all eventually need to lead our own lives) but is expressing her sorrow through a less-than-thoughtful means. Now clearly none of this is any excuse for a parent to behave like this, but I thought you might want some context, especially if you believe (I don't) that certain things can be shared universally across all cultures.

At what point does a person say enough is enough? This is not a fling. This is not a jump off. This is your Wife, the mother of your unborn child. I get you want acceptance by your parents, but they have shown they are not ready or willing to give. Stop subjecting your wife & yourself to such negativity. It's not good for your child. When you stop trying to force a feeling, it will happen naturally. Leave your parents be; stop speaking of matters that involve YOUR immediate family (ie your wife & child) with them. Live your best life, stress free & happy, & let the chips fall where they may when it comes to your parents & sister.

"I'm trying to get you to marry a girl that I pick for you!" As an American, hearing this is just mind-blowing. It's like no one would ever tell their child that, it sounds medieval, bonkers, backwards, there's no appeal in it at all. She's not even being nice to you, why should her taste in women be this ultra exciting thing you should desperately want? Some of the other commentators are right: Thinking so highly of herself, her opinion, her own taste, her own feelings, and her own happiness, rating your life's value based on how happy it makes her, really does make her a classic narcissist.

When my mother-in-law knew that I was 18 weeks pregnant (in a family lunch - her ex-husband, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, and daughters-in-law) she screamed: "This child never will be my grandchild!". My situation was similar (she didn't accept my relationship with her son). When I knew about her reaction, I said: "Ok, I have my parents and they will be my son's grandparents". She asked her family how the pregnancy was, which name we had chosen for our baby... When the baby was born and her son called to break the news, she cried a lot. Two days later, she came to my mother and asked to meet her grandson (I agreed because my mother insisted). When she took my son in her arms for the first time, she only cried and hugged him tightly. One week before my son turned 6, she passed away. During all this time of coexistence between them, she never hid from anyone that he was her favorite grandson and he always repeated how much he loved her (my son will be 19 on October 10 and keeps reminding his favorite grandmother). I hope this grandmother's resistance breaks up when she realizes that your baby is the fruit of your love and continuation of her own story in this world.

That Korean mother is abusive. Men can be abused by their wives. It happens more often than you think. Please, go get your father some help. You never know how bad it could actually be behind closed doors. My father was abused by my ex step mother. It is very possible. It doesn't mean the man is weak...its just the woman is abusive and...well...crazy. I'll pray for your dad. Also, keep her away from your baby. Once your baby comes things are bound to get even worse. Lots of emotions come up after a new person enters a family (marriage and birth). Also, keep an eye on your wife. Postpartum depression and anxiety can hit strong. I just had a baby less than a year ago...i know. 🙏🏽 family drama makes things worse. I'm just being real. You are married and have a baby on the way. You have left your parents and now need to cling to your wife. Don't put so much energy into your parents (your dad is attached to your mother)...put that loving energy into your little family. Don't continue that drama and have it be in your child's life. That isn't kind. Protect your family and keep anyone who has abusive tendencies AWAY!

As a Korean, what I know is this: yes I want to protect my parents as they protected me--and did a darn good job of it. However, as my mom and dad would say, they have vast amounts of years in life experience beyond me. Despite thier disappointment they would always prefer that I come to them with important issues. I think both of these two young people are doing just that. The important part is that this is a process and it is very clear that everyone loves one another. This is painful but I do feel that the love everyone has will prevail and rise above this. I encourage this is done in no other way that they are doing.

Dr Lee Well, _this_ particular Korean mother is so toxic and abusive, god knows what she would say or do to that child. Her toxicity and poor behavior literally overwhelms any positives that her life experience might have contributed to the parenting and future family of these two people. If she thinks she’s “just saying what everyone is afraid to say”, would she tell her grandchild that their parentage, skin color, hair texture, etc. somehow means there is something wrong with them? Would she give that child a complex about who they are and what they look like? Personally, I think they should cut that mother off and never let her be near the child. And if they do ever let her near the child, it should never be alone. I don’t know why his wife is putting up with this disrespect of her marriage (especially when she’s pregnant and her body is already going through enough stress trying to take create another human being) but they DEFINITELY shouldn’t expose the child to this woman’s intractable bigotry.

I see a couple of comments like this but it's not easy giving up on family. They've both spent a significant part of their lives with their parents and loving their parents. It makes sense for them to want them in their lives and their kid's life. There will be limits to what they can do and are willing to do but that's exactly what they're showing us; their struggle to find those limits. I know a couple of cases of people coming around on a relationship they disapproved of after their grand-kids were born myself. Family is complicated.

It's so crazy how the installed racism of Asian parents can make them miss out on so much. My partner of 5 years is of Taiwanese decent. At first his mother was also like " I don't want you to marry a Black girl", but she got over that within a year of knowing me. His dad took some time to come around because he doesn't speak English, but now all is well. His mother's reasoning for finally letting go of that mind set was she didn't want to miss out on her son's life over something petty like that. She has to trust his decisions and move on. People continue to think that anti-blackness is something that's made up, but you never have to look too far to find a good example.

Hope it gets better but I like to believe that the younger generation definitely is more open minded and working towards a “we” including all of us.

I feel so bad for your father, it's obvious that he loves you and will love the baby. Your mom is so prejudiced that I doubt she will ever change. Your mother was not born like that, she learned it from someone. If your father never gets to meet your child you should tell the child that he loved them in his heart, when they are old enough you can explain prejudice to them. I do not think I would want your mother around the child, she might harm it. Your wife appears to be all that anyone of any race should want in a daughter-in-law. Beautiful, intelligent, kind and she obviously loves you and wants what's best for you. I suppose we should feel sorry for your mother on some level. She is letting the hate she was taught harden her heart and pollute her brain and turn times that should bring her great joy into sadness for her. It sounds like she has passed her hateful beliefs on to your sister. I feel love for your father, he's in a bad situation. You should tell him you love him and that you will make sure the baby will see pictures of him and hear stories about him even if he can never see the baby. Your father's words made me worry for him, for his health.

CROWN John, That’s a valid reason your Mom has. She wants you to be absolutely ready and grounded and stable to bring a baby, another human life, into this world. And I think that’s what any parent would want. But it’s so sad at how upset Justin’s Mom is over this. Can you imagine if she found out right then and there that they’re expecting? Oml, she’d lose it completely I think. This is something I worry about as well because I too am not only mixed but I happen to be attracted to a couple of races that are not my own, Asians included. I’ve gotten questioned as if I were being interrogated about why it is I’m not into Black or Spanish men (apparently me being mixed with those means I’m also supposed to be attracted to them too). It can be scary and then you get treated like you’re racist or something when in reality I don’t know why it is I’m attracted to White and/or Asian men, it’s something that just is! I didn’t sit down one day and make a decision. But this is a huge fear I have that I won’t be accepted in whomever I marry’s family because I’m mixed. It’s ridiculous, really. We’re practically in 2019 and it’s just sad.

Mαяsbαяs well TBH it's just a common problem from their generation they don't have a concept about racism,if he dated a white girl I don't think his mom would react like this.I am not racist but black male doesn't have a good reputation,lots of them knocked up their girl friends and just left that's why lots of black girl they don't want to date black guy.Same with Asian lots of Asian girls ask lots of stuffs like property car etcs so we chose to date other races as well.i feel like it's a good thing I mean mix baby can be very smart and be able to understand multi languages from beginning which gaves them a good advantages but it also comes with bullying when they start school.I have this experience but I fought back so it didn't effect me much but I do know lots of mix children got bully by their class mates due to the mix race.

Six months after she suffered from a heart attack and had to undergo surgery to removed clogged arteries and after that happened to her, she suddenly became kinder to us.

Everybody saying his dad is nice, sweet and all, but pay attention: sometimes, sweetness can hurt too! The father doing nothing and not standing for what's right is the same of agreeing with the mother's behaviour, but only in a much more passive way. "Poor guy", "It's hard for him", "She's toxic and abusive". Sure it's far from easy and she's being abusive, but allowing that to be happening and getting "the good guy" card in this situation, causes as much damage! She's disrespectful and radical, but authentic, at least. In my opinion, there's the racism issue, of course, but the mother has much power about the family decisions, and is upset that she realized her son has power over his life too, and not necessarily to please her, as his dad seems to do. You guys are a beautiful couple. Always together and making decisions together. This is real love and respect. Good luck!

The fact that Justin's dad has to lie so he can have private time with his own son is just alarming and shows how controlling his mom is. Sarah, you are so beautiful and smart and Justin is so lucky to have you. Please dont feel discouraged and don't get hurt from his family. @Julia Reed I must admit I've only watched two videos so far. Though I wonder how you came to the conclusion that his father would have a goog life if he left his mother. 🤔 Just because she's unfairly against her son's relationship with a blasian doesn't mean she was necessary a bad wife to her husband or a bad mother to her children. She obviously has a big issue with some skin color or ethnicity. And that leads her to have this nasty behaviour. But what do we know from her aside that ? NOTHING !!! So I think we should refrain judging her whole personality from that unfortunate behaviour. Then again, I've watched only two videos. So maybe I would think differently if I had watched more.

You need to be more empathic towards your dad. That's a good man right there. He's probably heartbroken, but he still wants you to be happy. Even if it means he probably has to put up with endless anger from your mum. Speaking of your mum though... And as a mum myself... You need to draw some very clear lines. Your priorities change drastically when you become a parent and the last thing you need when taking care of a baby is your mother's toxic attitude.
@Alteori

😭😭😭😭 When she said, "even though i yell at you, I will always come to your rescue", that made me cry. That clip gave me PTSD with my relationship with my mom. She said the almost exact words. Except she was open to interracial relationships but it was more about religion and her pride. Despite some shady things she would do, she said, "Despite everything, you are my daughter and I love you, I will always be here, there is always a place for you at home here with me." Our mothers can be the most toxic people, but I think in their own way, they love us. In our culture, the mother expects you to grow and walk the way SHE intends. You have to stand up for yourself and break away and there is usually alot of bitterness from her side. I had to stand up to my mom and threaten to never talk to her again. I am her only daughter, so we reconciled, sort of. I will never fully trust her though. Your Umma loves you very much. She's dogmatic in her thinking and she was raised that way, albeit out of ignorance, but she loves you.

So heartbreaking to see Justin's dad trapped to where he can't enjoy these joyous moments due to his wife. The fact that Justin's dad still talks to him shows that he cares for his son. I can see the cultural reasons why he follows his wife's lead, etc. Justin and his wife just need to live there lives; be happy; give love and joy to their son/daughter AND keep in contact with Justin's dad as much as they can. As long as you make an effort than that's what counts. As long as you can show your child that you tried to have your family involved (on either side) then that's what matters cause you will show him/her that love comes in various colors and you don't give up on those around you. Stay strong.........and Congrats on the baby!!!!!!!!
