❤ He's basically saying take good care of my grandchild ☺. I wish culture wasn't so complex because this is the letter of a proud and loving grandpa. His hesitation is based on imposed cultural restrictions. Don't close the door, I hope she gets to spend time with her grandfather in the future, nothing beats a grandpa's love.

I mean, the letter wasn't bad....I can think of a lot of reasons as to why he didn't say more in the letter. He may have been told about your channel and know you share everything, had he said he loves you and wants to see you, and his wife is crazy, what do you think would happen to him? I think it is a move in the right direction, because if he didn't care, he would not have bothered to respond.

ToJustin & Sarah, no one in this universe were given the chance to select their parents. And if the grand creator of us all had thought it wrong for different races to marry and have children he himself would have made it preventable. In my heart I believe Justin's parents may fear seeing and bonding with their beautiful granddaughter. After all "what would our jealous neighbors think"? The nations of this world have forgotten how to love each other and are bent on destroying thanks to governmental thinking not offering any future hope. Give your parent's time to want to naturally bond with their new family member. In their hearts they really want to. Almighty God has promised to repair our damaged human society. The two of you continue to love each other and your newborn. DHR

@ITHEREONETHATHASNT You can't stop multiculturalism. Different cultures will always exist within groups of people, regardless of how homogeneous they are. People don't like the rules, so they make their own. That's how it goes. In the past, people had the luxury of literally finding and founding a new place; but there's no where else to go now. People will naturally clash more. There are way more people and way more ideas. Get over it.

It is a cultural thing - you have to understand how deep rooted this goes especially in Asian culture. I am still estranged from my grandmother - decades later, as an adult. My grandfather was the only one that accepted me. He hid to come see me a few times so his wife did not know. At 90 years old she literally called me last week to tell me she loved me. I felt nothing, sad but that is my truth. Do you have any idea how cruel that is.

@Get Real Move on, it's only been a couple of years. I studied East Asian culture in school. They tend to play the long game. They are looking at generations down the line. I know we like to say we are real, and we sometimes end up in Jersey shore style fights, but this guy seems to have been raised with East Asian habits. He probably works hard and persistently, planning for 10 years from now and not thinking about satisfaction right now (the instant gradification we love). See how things are in 10 to 15 years. Then he can decide to give up. It may never happen and he has to call it quits in 10 years, but for East Asians giving up now would be too short of a time period.
@Al1492
@Al1492 3 жыл бұрын
@Get Real It maybe racism or lack of/fear of knowledge of other cultures and it will happen to whites girls as well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtemksicp8vUgmw.html This guy in the link is married to a white girl and he had to cut off contact with his family as well. Similar reason for marrying a non-similar culture. He tried for about 5+ years. He also never told off his parents either, he just slowly stopped contact with them and the reason for that is he will probably try again after sometime. They do not want our style of keeping it real. Their are a couple of factors that these older generations fear which is their culture being changed or wiped out, fear of not being able to fluently speak to their daughter in law (which means lack of control), foreign divorce rates and retirement issues with a non-similar culture. Some people need help with a changing world. They need help slowly, not our style of threw it in their face, I'm right and you will see my light of righteousness right now: lets duke it out Jersey shore style. We are right, but give them time. These people eventually want to rebuild a connection with their parents and will not tell them off because culturally that is how they are raised, which is respect your elders even if the elders are wrong. This is a depressing situation. Here watch this couple instead and be happy: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipl6g7iK28-vkZc.html and something like this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mryDZtKIvtCmXYU.html

As a Korean, what I certainly felt after reading this letter was a very positive message. In fact, there are many deep words that Korean cannot be expressed in English. I could feel the message that his father really loved him and loved his daughter. The tone may seem blunt, but the words in the message are really warm. This is so sure! I hope his family is really happy, too.

@lotusmua6325

Special Events addressing her by name...is this how little acknowledgment baby Sabrina will expect from those who may not like her? Don’t use this baby to change their mind because it looks like Justin & Sarah are manipulating the situation with the baby as part of their arsenal. Sarah, Justin should not be exposing both of you to this. Sarah, you are sweet but your are playing dumb and you keep giving him false hope. He married you not his parents. You are forcing him to show weakness He is trying to tell Sarah that he is not going to keep talking about the baby and he doesn’t even want to visit. He’s correct. He needs to stop visiting all together. That’s what a real husband and father would do. They display strength. That’s exactly what Sarah’s father should have done instead of leaving her mother due to his family’s wishes. Sarah, you both need to stop trying to push your relationship on your parents and the world. If it’s true love then It needs no convincing. His parents will no longer be on this earth one day and they have to answer to God. They don’t owe you guys anything. They made their decision and that’s it, now grow up. At least they are not lying to you. This is not a movement it’s a marriage. I to am in an interracial marriage. My husband and I had to painfully cut ties with many relatives and we are happier for it. Sarah, stop acting like you don’t know what a broken family is. Let go of your fears and helplessness that your mother taught you. Stop acting weak. Justin’s mothers is running circles around you and all she has to do is ignore you to trigger you. Sarah is triggered by abandonment because of how your father left. Men don’t respect women who act sweet all of the time. Yes it hurt, but don’t display that to the world. It’s like you both want his parents to be convinced by watching your videos. His parents (especially the mother) is laughing at you and your tears. Everyone is watching you guys being torchured and Sabrina will feel that she is the problem. I would suggest that you make a video listing why you guys as parents are choosing to move on from this toxic situation. I will guarantee you that Justin’s mother and the rest of the narcissistic adults that you keep trying to manipulate will not have the power any longer. Why be codependent on people who ever showed you no respect? I wish you two all the best. You are a lovely couple. Sarah, this your life on repeat. Your husband wants to be with you but if you don’t separate your daddy issues, stop sweetly lying and stop pushing your husband on his parents then you will create the same situation that hurt your mother because she didn’t put her foot down. It’s a tug of war sis and Justin already knows his mother’s tactics.

karrie lim I don’t think he’s scared. But consider how long he’s been married, how long he’s kept his cultural traditions. Grandfather probably think he has to choose between wife and son. He loves them both unconditionally. This takes time because interracial relationships is brand new concept for anyone born before the 70s. Anyone 50+ has been alive and developed their personality for so long. We can’t expect them to welcome change. But over time it’s Possible

I’m Korean and I cried after reading Justin’s dad’s letter. Judging by his writing his dad seems like a typical conservative asian dad who doesn’t easily reveal his feelings, especially to their children. I think for whatever reason he cannot meet his granddaughter right now and the sadness of it is reflected in the letter. His focus in his letter though was all about Sabrina, his concern for her, his happiness for her arrival and mostly his love and care for her. Try not to make assumptions about how he doesn’t want to meet Sabrina just because he’s not making the effort now. Send him many photos and updates about Sabrina as I’m sure he’s always waiting to receive them. Hope all the best to your loving family!

Hi Justin I went through something similar to your situation but my wife is korean but got treated lot worst. Korean parents have high expectation of their eldest son. This includes getting high achievements at school, earn lots of money and a korean wife who expects her to fully obeys to the husband and his family (like slave). One day they would expect you to take care of them when they are really old. (Even though they may not done this to your grandparents). You should never use logic when dealing with korean parents. The letter you got from your dad implies he still cares about you and your family but I can tell he is super afriad of Your mum. (Very common in korea) Send them gifts now and then to show you care for them (koreans emphasize worldly gifts even if they are christians) I hope one day your parents will come to terms with you and your wife Bring korean sucks sometimes Good luck man

And she tried to rule her kids the way she rolled her husband. He has to live with her. He has to abide by what she has set forth. Maybe one day he’ll be strong enough to realize he’s got to break free. I feel bad for him too. I also feel they were raised in a different era where people weren’t supposed to mix you were just supposed to stay with your own kind. So that whole concept is probably very foreign to them. The one I’m most disappointed and is your sister because she’s younger but then again she lives with a controlling mother.All we can do is send good thoughts their way too because they’re wrong and they know it but will not admit it which is sad in and of itself because life is too short to bear grudges like this

Lavender Life I think we’re giving his dad too much credit. Who wouldn’t fight to see their own grandchild? He’s ok with not being involved in his sons’s most important moment in life. The letter isn’t good enough. At what point does human nature override racist ideologies? That’s his flesh and blood. If he really cared he’d make more of a effort, despite Justin’s mom. As a man he should be more authoritative, and not let his wife keep him from seeing his own flesh and blood. This just makes me so angry, it’s nonsensical.

live that life but my question is; why is being racist an acceptable “tradition”? Why don’t we as a society take racism more seriously? What person in their right mind wouldn’t see their own grandchild? Racism is a mental illness. If you dislike or deny your own blood relative because of race or the color of their skin, there is something seriously wrong with you. People like that need to be medicated. I hope you’re right about him coming along but the behavior is inexcusable. We shouldn’t make excuses for people because “they’re old”. These people attempt to pass on these same thought patterns to their children and not everyone is as strong and has the ability and intelligence to think for themselves like Justin. I hope and pray for the best for these three. They are true role models, and I love that they are shedding light on racism and not only how it affects people’s lives, but how to stand against it.

@@holisticcoachvictoria Racism is not a mental illness. It is, however, a negative social (religious or cultural) construct within sociology, anthropology, gerontology, history and slightly the field of psychology. It is a fine balance getting to have older individuals shift patterns of thinking and behaviors which have been taught young and reinforced over their lifetime. It is much easier to have individuals shift their perspective, be open-minded and less stubborn/concrete, in addition to recognizing their ignorant belief system when they are young. His brain, especially in the second half of his life, has neural pathways and connections which prevent him, alongside how he was raised (indoctrinated) and racially/culturally cut off prior to immigrating to Canada, from adapting quickly and with ease. His role as a father, his hints at the desire for kindness and connection, and his role as a husband and his cultural/religious identity are likely at odds and putting pressure, strain, and confusion onto him. Intelligence doesn't have to do with it. I am sure that he is an intelligent man but it is very difficult to change perspectives as we grow older. Change in behavior cannot come without a change in beliefs first. The brain is extremely complex. Some research could provide you with more insight - cognitive psychology, the psychology of learning, developmental psychology across the lifespan, neuroscience (specifically unlearning unhealthy or toxic thought processes) www.businessinsider.com.au/why-are-older-people-racist-2018-7?r=US&IR=T

The only thing I would add is don't expect anything back, just send them because you're doing right by yourselves and if he doesn't do right by himself leave it at that. No reason you should experience sadness everytime you reach out. If one day he makes the step to see your family then welcome with open arms but if it never happens then it doesn't. I agree with you ....but then it may be a cultural thing regarding pride or what have you, something only the grandfather and Justin's family would understand....for now the only thing I can say is that time sure does fly by in a wink of an eye....and I hope Justin's parents come to their senses and not let a lot of time go by before the decide to make the step to extend their arms to Sabrina....it would be their loss. Sabrina has everything and more that life can offer her in the sense of a family that loves her...she will not lose out on anything, except a vague thought of why her paternal grandparents would be so close minded. With this said and done...a child grows to love the ones that truly love her. When there is a non existing parent, (or grandparents in this case) they function perfectly fine if the bond and structure is strong with other family members...and of course...how not so? she is a heavenly child..blessed by everything important to her in her life.

This kind of direct acknowledgment of your daughter is a very good sign, it is more positive than I think you realize. Because you have been influenced by Western culture, this indirectness seems dismissive through the Western lens but in actuality, it is quite a leap for him to write you this way. I guarantee you he wants to meet his granddaughter in the worst way but the poor man has to live with his daughter and wife and is probably subjected to a lot of verbal abuse regarding his support of his son. He's by himself with no one to stand up "with" him against two very strong personalities...and at his age he probably just wants to live in peace.

I didn’t hold my breath for that day...I lived. When they were ready, they called and we answered. Until that day, you both really should live and move on because the stress isn’t worth it. I interpeted that letter as advice..Dont close the door! He acknowledged her name..he gave advice..he Never said he didnt want to see her..dont read more into it ! He also took the time to write a letter that alone speaks volumes!! You're giving up too easily..your dad is limited to be free with what he feels and carefully chooses his words..respect the fact he wrote you , called Sabrina by her Korean name.., be happy he even wrote you, be grateful for advise, acknowledge he understands the lack of sleep with a new baby in the house. DON'T Give Up..time heals all wounds..its all in Gods time not yours, your fathers,or your family. A day will come ...yes it will! ..you must have faith.and patients, it will come. Every 6 months send current pics..especially 1 yr mark..when she begins to talk teach her "grandfather" in Korean video it and send to his cell phone..eventually his heart will be touched and warmed if it isnt already..he just has to be careful..I bet his heart is breaking already..but culture and wife makes it difficult for him on every level😢. He never ever said nor indicated he never wanted to be in the same room as Sabrina..I think you're reading far too much into it and making assumptions..I realize your dad was your only hope..but she is only a couple of months old..her skin is not dark..she looks Korean..she is Korean..so what shes mixed.more than 1/2 the world is big deal 😏 Never ever use her skin color or mix as a reason for anything negative..she is what she is..BEAUTIFUL..raise her to be a strong 👑 queen that demands respect💖 Btw..That letter should go in her baby book!

I think that your father cares. Maybe he's a bit racist, maybe he is not. I don't know.What I DO know is that you MUST focus on YOUR family. STOP letting this negative situation define your life. Negative thoughts, actions, attitudes can only suck the joy that your family should be sharing together. The two of you have a loving relationship.You seem to be made for each other. Let NO one have a monopoly on your feelings and emotions. Now, you have a Beautiful baby to raise together in your love. NO one has the RIGHT to command so much pain and grief in your lives. BABY feels EVERY emotion too! It's not fair to her or you! Maybe your father will come around. The letter seems slightly hopeful, but, don't let your hopes get up, and then you are devastated again. If he comes around , fine. If he doesn't, don't dwell on it. Send your cards, etc., but DON'T try to elicit any feelings or hopes to him. Send cards that don't require an answer, yeah or nay. Keep correspondence neutral. Don't MAKE more wounds for yourselves. Focus on the love that you DO receive from those whom you KNOW truly love you and give you that love and support that you NEED.Other than THAT, rewire your brains to "Whatever will be will be.We are fine WHICHEVER way the wind blows." You have love, family,(A Wonderful little baby!). Thank GOD for all the GOOD things that you have in life. Be thankful for them. DON'T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR JOY!!!!!!!! BE HAPPY. LIFE WILL HAVE MANY UPS AND DOWNS. LEARN HOW TO RIDE THE WAVE. THINGS WILL GET BETTER IF YOU DECIDE THAT THINGS WILL GET BETTER. THAT STARTS WITH YOUR ATTITUDE, AND HOW YOU WILL LET CIRCUMSTANCES AFFECT YOU! DECIDE TODAY THAT YOU ARE OVERCOMERS, AND THOGH TRIALS COME, NOTHING IS GOING TO STEAL YOUR JOY! YOU ARE THE ONES WHO CAN REWIRE YOUR BRAINS AND YOUR ATTITUDE TO DECIDE HOW YOU WILL THINK AND RESPOND, AND WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH, YOU HAVE EACH OTHER TO LEAN ON AND OVERCOME FOR YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE.THEY HELP YOU TO STAY POSITIVE, PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY. YOU CAN DO THIS.START NOW.MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR PRECIOUS FAMILY AND ALL THOSE WHO HAVE YOUR BACK!

I don't think so。they told them from the beginning about the baby and even sending a photo album of a baby without mentioning in his letter is so painful for the parents.asian parents can ignore their children but the birth of a baby can make them accept their daughter in law.she was disowned by her father and her in-laws especially the wife is too much to bear for her. I think they need to move on his parents want to see their daughter someday so be it.but this time focus on their family.when the in laws doesn't accept the wife of thier son it is more painful for his when the grandparents will not accept their granddaughter

Andrea Perez thank you. I actually did, but it doesn’t negate the fact that his daughter in law has the doors open for them to come see Sabrina. Also, the grandfather’s duty is to accept his granddaughter despite his wife’s feelings. She is being incredibly selfish, and quite simply; she is wrong. Also, if she wanted only Korean for her son, why did she move to Canada? Hypocritical. She wanted the benefits of living in that society but to live in a bubble? It doesn’t work that way.

It is all rooted not only in false Pride of parents, but more so on ignorance! Ignorance breeds pride & lack of understanding & disrespect for other ethnicity or religion! Prayers, constant, fervent Prayers work miracles! The Love of JESUS is The Way To Love of Oneselves (Look after yourself, your wife/partner & your little Angel Sabrina! What a lively name Sabrina) and Love for others, including parents & siblings! Despite each other"s families attitude and ignorance just keep your love for them in prayers, not sadness & resentments! We say "Time Heals!", but do not easily give up on HOPE through sincere & constant prayers. It is not that you cannot live your own life without them, but that it would be good for them to accept reality & respect your choices as whom to love or marry as you are.both responsible adults! Do not worry for now about them not accepting even your beautiful baby, think of how you live your.Life together as own family, for "Life Is How We Make of it! HAPPINESS comes from.within ourselves, do not yearn for it from others even from your parentage & siblings! May GOD Bless you both and the baby in many ways, be strong in your love and devotion for each other and your baby!

To their credit, Justin's parents shockingly haven't had to or have gotten away while living in Canada with their fixed narrow-minded beliefs regarding race and family lineage. As a result of not being forced to address it or being faced with something personally impacting them until Sarah came into their life, they are older and therefore less likely of having their thought process be malleable (neuroplasticity). The father is torn as a father, husband, and with his beliefs from his country of birth/upbringing. As for the mother, I think that it does have to do with pride as Korean mothers tend to be overbearing especially to sons. www.businessinsider.com.au/why-are-older-people-racist-2018-7?r=US&IR=T

Wait a minute. Take it slowly. The way I see it your dad was giving you loving fatherly advice. He also mentioned your daughter by name. He never said he doesn't want to be in the same room with her or never wants to see her. If he felt that way he would have said it in the letter or he wouldn't have bothered sending you a letter. Please, take a moment and give him the benefit of doubt. If he's mean or verbally abusive, then cut it off, otherwise leave the door open for him to love his granddaughter. 💕

To be honest two loving parents and a awesome Grandma with a amazing aunt and uncle are a lot of love for a baby to receive. Maybe one day Sabrina will ask about those grandparents but until that day comes let's not strain yourselves wondering if the stubborn grandparents will come around. I think you guys loving her and loving each other is more than enough. 🤗 Thank you for sharing your story and have a great week.

Gosh, I share the anguish in what you two are going through. I can also empathize with your father, as one can hear from his letter, that he is trying in his own way. It is a step, and it gives hope that all the parents will come around because they realize that the love for you, their children, is more important than any religion, prejudices, etc. They should also consider how lucky they are to see and experience their grandchild. A big kiss to your beautiful baby. Good luck to you both!

It is hard to be an adult and live your own life when your parents won’t let go and allow you to blossom. I fear that my soon to be in laws will not love any of my children as they do not care for me. I respectfully disagree with your interpretation on your dad saying that he does not want to see Sabrina. Just because he does not mention it does not mean that is how he truly feels deep down. I truly believe he did see the album. At least he wrote back and acknowledged her name. That says a lot. May not seem like it to you, but I feel that your dad does want to see her and spend time, but as you mention, "He's stuck between a rock and a hard place". The letter your dad wrote could have been a lot worse or you could have not received anything. He cares about all of you. He prays for safety and well-being. That in itself shows a caring individual.
