Disassembling Artillery Sidewinder X1 Extruder

By the end of this video, you will learn how to disassemble and assemble back the entire extruder of Artillery Sidewinder X1.
We will break the extruder down for you and you will have a better understanding of the components, in case there is a need for repair or replace any of the extruder's items.

There are very few differences in this arena between X1 and X2. You will figure it out. I did.

Is their a video on how to replace the stepping motors with the CLOSED LOOP stepping motors in order to fix the shifting skewing PROBLEM .. what do you recommend for this X-1 SIDEWINDER

Spacer block goes on top of not under circuit board! Otherwise good video.

The heatsink look different on this one than the one I got, why?

It has been updated. Heatsink and covering plate are now one single piece. Also the heat break has no thread anymore and is now mounted with two grub screws from the side.

In the video you it looks to me like you are using a Genius Extruder but in the title it says X1, are the two systems interchangeable?

Thats the X1 extruder with New cooling plate at the side

To answer my own question, you would have to diasemble the extruder pretty much completely since the backplate on the X1 and Genius are different, one has 3 holes, one has 4. Additionally the pegboard on the genius has 24 pins against 20 on the x1, Connnections for heat sensor etc. are the same and the board can be changed easily.

but you didn't take it all apart....didn't remove the hot end for replacement, etc.

You didn't disassemble anything. You took of the top and put it back on. What about the rest of it?

So I must have screwed this up because now my extruder gear won't move

if u over tighten the top two screws near that gear it wont move, my problem ive had is, how tight do they need to be coz now i dont get enough filament through my extruder

My idler arm wont fit back onto the bearings on the stepper motor. To be more clear, the idler arm fits fine but the heat sink wont fit back on. There are 2 bearings on the pancake stepper motor and it doesnt have as much of the shaft sticking out past the bearings. Its completely flush where it appears you have like an eigth or sixteenth of an in of the shaft still sticking out so it can rest inside the coupling on the back of the heat sink. Where am I going wrong??? Every other version has a separate heat sink.

Jeez, I need a vacation, it literally took me 12 hours of research and trial and error to realize the new idle arm I bought already had a bearing on it and it came off and I assumed it was, for some odd reason, the factory setup to have 2 bearings on the stepper motor output shaft. 3d printing derp 🤏🧠🤯 SMH.....This was however my first time taking it apart and this is the v4 version. I learned that. Every other version has a removable heat sink behind the fan. Anyways, thanks for the video. 😆

@@nomadautodidact THANK YOU for sharing this and saving what little sanity I have left. I was down a good two hours and wasn't on the right track at all to solving this. The plastic cover near the ribbon cable also gave me a headache.. the hex screws securing it were somehow 2.2mm so I had to file down a 2.5mm hex key to make it fit. Not exactly smooth sailing so far!

@@duivenzager Its always something like that. I wish America would switch to metric since we've gave all our manufacturing jobs away anyways. I'm always saying this at work (I'm a welder) and everyones like "its just fractions man, and I'm like metric is just sets of 10!!!

@@nomadautodidact Hey I know this comment is really old but I am having the same problem and would like some clarification. To clarify the correct setup is to have 2 bearings on the shaft with one of them slotting into the idler arm bearing hole. Thanks

Save your money and get a better printer. I have two Artillery Sidewinder X2s and both are now broken. One still under warranty and wont level the build plate at all. Second one that was a decent performer will not power on anymore. Artillery support have been totally USELESS and non responsive.
