Yes Derek , I turned 70 last September . Been doing plumbing heating since I was 16 . I’ve never tired of it although these days I try to focus more on service and repairs . Also Oftec Technician. Will renew my ACS qualifications this year and health permitting will carry on for another 5yr🤪

@@seventeesweremagic I only had my Ideal E Type CF 80,000 BTU replaced last September but it was still working , if the thermostat was a not accurate. Now a WB system boiler 30i. It will never last as long as the Ideal but think of the CO2 it w as pumping out?

I was expecting you to say these old looking things were from the 70s or 80s, but 2004?! Wow. My parents always had a conventional separate boiler while I was growing up though so that is probably why this thing looks so alien to me.

Hi Derek really did enjoy watching this 1. I remember doing these as an apprentice 6 years ago and loved it. Some stuff to be learned on system like this and the more you do it then better understanding of it you gain. Anyway your not that old to be doing stuff like this now and again. Tom's a good lad (enjoyed gaining experience from him) and hopefully he follows through your footsteps. Thanks for everything. 👍😁

I still service a few BBU every year, a couple much older than the one you removed.

A little tip though that flex you rapped in brown PVC tape not a good idea you should use a connector block or better steal wago connector’s . I trust you got it all sorted out Great video well done 👍👍❤️

Quesion for you mate, we have a Somy two burner oil stove with back boiler (its just three coil pipes inside the stove) there is a pump that circulates the heated water to rad's and its not doing much since there are too mny rads...we are thinking of eliminating the entire water feed to boiler and the pump and use the stove as stand alone stove just to heat the room. could we just have the plumber cut out the coil pipes (back boiler) from the inside the stove after all the water feed is eliminated.? and use as a stand alone stove. We do have a gas burner as well which is plumbed to all readiators and heats up rads well. Thanks, I wish i could share some pics.....cheers

i moved into an old house with an open fireplace. I've been told there is a "back boiler" which heats the water and radiators when the fire is lit . There is a switch which apparently pumps the hot water into the radiators ? The fire is lit i switch on the pump (i can hear bubbling noise) but no warm radiators or hot water . Can someone explain, why not ?

Still have one of these boilers managed to get it installed to replace a glow worm just before back boilers left the market. Has only failed once the gas valve went and took out the PCB. Other than that it has been great. When it goes I don't want another gas boiler may look into a wood stove back boiler. Don't see the point of replumbing my house for another gas boiler and a vic terrace is not going to work with air source. It is amazing how many engineers have no idea how to take it apart I normally get them to isolate the gas and I take the front off for them. It literally takes a couple of minutes when you know what you are doing, I watched an engineer fight with it for an hour once just because he refused to let me help to save his back. In the end he admitted defeat and I removed the front for him in literally seconds.

Well done, you taught a 60 year old (Gas Safe registered) plumbing and heating engineer something. The fat end of the pump is The flow. Nothing beats the freedom that this trade gives you. A nasty boss or customer, you just put your tools in your bag and Tell them to Fxxx off. As the years go by your skills get better and better. After 30 years I have more regulars than I can count. All My work comes from them or their friends. You have not mentioned the first rule of plumbing. Don’t touch anything until you know where to turn the water or gas off. (Clean version) I really enjoy your show. All the best.

Genuine guy doing the best he with a very nasty old system. I have done a couple just like this Really should be a gut out old lead solder joints and on the hot water going from .3 bar to probably to 2.5 + bar. This guy would have checked mains pressure be for offering a combi. The only thing g it go going for it is the copper pipe is thicker walls. You will need to check all you hot service pipes under bath sink . When you see an install like you know it's been put in by a chunky monkeys. So be very careful. No criticism intended as you have probably forgotten more than l know. Just a words to the youngsters coming out training great trade but keep your gloves up at all times.
