⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute, we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But then we were back on our feet, fully MOT’d and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire!! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and made our way to Japan. We enjoyed a three-month Japanese Adventure and then got back to Martha for some new European Adventures. After an incredible three-month Scottish road trip, we have now packed up our van and are heading to Australia for a new van life adventure!

You kids are so great. How resilient are you in that moment, wind surfing past an outback truck, losing the connection to your power source. Seriously your lives in jeopardy with the risk of no cold water. Go ahead and cry, I would. Moon landing real, Aussies leading the space race - never. How many flies will you be eating before your road trip is over? Philly handsome, hat or no hat, Keely fashion conscious in colour coordinating socks and shorts, so freaking cute. The corks swinging from the hat brims do work and keep flies away from the face. Love ya, Stay safe, keep driving.

Sadly, that type of heat in the outback, during the summer months, is no where near unprecedent. Plan your travels to either stay at a caravan park or stay near a body of water that is crocodile free, so that you can both cool off. Also, buy a portable car tyre inflator (compressor) so that tyres can be deflated on the corrugations and sandy sections and pumped up as required. Double or triple your water carrying ability, too.

😂 We did warn you of the heat and flys in the outback. Glad to see you got hats and sunscreen and stocked the van with water and supplies and take fuel seriously. Electronics won't work in the Australian heat so paper maps and talking to locals is the key. Keep going 💪 as it'll be an experience like no other. I've seen two road trains sandwich a car, so keep clear of them. The outback forces you to have a plan B, C & D.

Pro tip for sleeping in the heat . Tske your bed sheet to the shower in the morning , get it wet , ring it out and fold it , preferably place it in the fridge all day , then just before you go to sleep put it over you , by morning it will be dry and you will be cool all night . You dont need a fridge . Just the wet in the sheet is enough , the evaporation of the water from the sheet will create a refridgeration effect . Evaporation = cooling .
@phillyandkeely
@phillyandkeely 5 ай бұрын
That sounds genius!
@lifesahobby
@lifesahobby 5 ай бұрын
@@phillyandkeely there is a sweet spot of wet verses uncomfort . A damp sheet rather than a wet sheet . You'll need to experiment with it . Obviously a soaking towel is going to not evaporate as much as a thin bed sheet . I learned this trick in 52 degrees Celsius in Arizona ., taking the sheet out of the refrigerator and putting it on the bed before sleep was heaven . I used a fan , but I don't think you need a fan .. you may need some ventilation . Let me know if it works in the van . ❤️❤️ From Dublin

Those roads you were travelling on are much better with 4WD 😁 You are so brave as those road trains can cause you to run off road/sway (wind) as they travel FAST keep hands firmly on steering wheel!! Hi, Guys. Really sucks with the solar panels, hope you've got the bits on board with you to get it sorted. 1/ Moon Landings - real. 2/ Next time you find a store, get yourselves a couple of Aussie Cork Hats, the ones with the pieces of string around the rim with pieces of cork hanging off to keep the flies away from your face. Philly wearing one of those would really make you feel like one of the locals! What makes this annoying is that you guys probably drove near my house here in Kerry at some point & we've got two of those we bought while in Oz & could have given them to you, I don't we're ever gonna find much need for them round here!

You need to get a solid solar panel, not those flexible ones. It needs to be bolted down to the roof rack. Go to a Bunnings and get a Ryobi rechargeable fan for sleeping. Get some Bushmans natural insect repellent and if you can safely burn a citronella candle, the type that is is in a jar from Woolworths to keep mosquitoes out at night. Keely you need a hat that protects the back of your neck too. You can buy a bag of ice and use your fridge as a cooler until you get the solar fixed.

@@taffy7404 During the Apollo 11, Apollo 14 and Apollo 15 lunar missions, astronauts put mirrors on the moon. Why? Scientists would aim a laser beam of light at the mirrors and measure the time it took for the light to come back. Google it, that's how we know the moon is slowly moving away from earth and not closer each year ...

Hello you awesome travelers. First Philly is mos def handsome and Keely is a joy to behold always. Moon landing absolutely real. And…I live in Phoenix, AZ with the highest number of days over 119 degrees this year…most ever recorded. That’s about 48 degrees Celsius. You learn quickly to not be outside except very early morning. But ugh, flies seem the worst ever. So question: Which are worse; Australian flies or Scottish midges?
@phillyandkeely
@phillyandkeely 5 ай бұрын
Excellent question, we debate this haha! I think mosquitos are the worst of all. Midges are probably worse than flies, but they are more limited in location, whereas flies are everywhere! I would say ultimately don't come to Scotland or the outback in summer, both should be done in spring when the critters arent so abundant haha

Sat here with my ankle in plaster after finally having my ankle op on 28th and already the boredom has set in so I’ve been waiting to catch up on all your adventures. Omg, can’t believe the solar panel drama, what a nightmare but your resilience is really impressive, I’m not sure I’d have been so calm🤞🏼you get the power sorted easily and quickly. So, Philly - handsome of course and moon landing- real (question is what did they really see out there?) 🤔I remember the flies too, they’re so brazen but ur both rockin the hats 😎 Philly I almost choked on my cuppa with your comment re cows butt 😂🤣😂 Stay safe x

The reason the corrugated road is bumpier when it looks smooth is because the ruts are full of what's called "bulldust" where they the dust settles and fills them up. Did many trips across the Nullarbor before it was tar sealed.... bone shaking for hrs on end. Road trains passing on that was no joke. Loving your videos 👍

Well done guys. Those temps are normal where you are at that time of year. Lived at Uluru for a bit. Flies heat and lots of cow's. Those road trains can be dangerous, mind you never had an issue myself and driven there a bit. Also those rail road crossings just check before you cross. Make sure your solar panels are as level to the roof as possible with no wind underneath to give them lift off
