You can do this easier and more realistic with the layer weight fed into the gradient

Just broke out the vinyl the other day and went into flashback mode lol Although had to get the duster to dust off the lint roller to clean the vinyl before play. ;)

iirc, the alpha version of blender adds in a new view transform alternative to Filmic that will support a new type of rendering called Spectral Rendering, which allows you to render on the full color spectrum, which would theoretically allow you to make the effect 100% photo realistic
