I love it so far! I think this will be my go to for drawers in the near future! Take s a little more time that cutting out rabbets for drawers but it's so nice to have everything so secure once it's all done!

Oh. believe me we have all been there. The key is just to work with what you have, I spent years with just a circular saw, and a jig saw and a drill. the more i realized I liked woodworking the more of these type of accessories I began to add. Thanks for the video. Very detailed. I appreciate you walking me through the process from beginning to end, including building the bottom. Other videos using the jig didn’t demonstrate the entire process. Most did one end of side A and B and then the next scene shows a fully assembled box.

Most of the box joint his I've seen are table saw jigs; I'm not sure if I ever seen one for the router table before. I figured they exist, but honestly, I'd have thought they were similar to the dovetail jigs. Thanks for sharing!

Great question. The pocket hole jig is much faster and is a lot more forgiving, but I love the way a box joint looks. The box joint is also Much more stable than the pocket hole joint. I would probably save the box joint for joints that might be exposed. The box joint can really shine if you use two contrasting colored hardwoods! Thanks for watching Scotty Drake!

I wish I had a Rockler or woodcraft near me. I’m about halfway between Dallas and Little Rock, so it’s a 2 1/2 hour trip one way trip in either direction lol. Probably a good thing though. Mrs Griffin woodworks appreciates they’re so far away. 😂

considering the cost of the jig Rockler could have used T track in the MDF base as that area will wear quite quickly ,mind you its not exactly difficult to fabricate one of these yourself. Thanks for the Video

4:59 I drilled a hole where the router lift key goes, so i don't have to remove the jig to adjust bit height.

Thanks for the video. I just picked this jig up and noticed there is no hole to get your tool in to adjust the bit height, I was thinking about drilling a hole in the jig for access, what do you think about the idea?

That's an excellent question. I suppose you probably could, however I would suggest getting a dovetail jig if that is what you are trying to do. For about the same price you can get those, and they work pretty well (for the most part). I haven't had too much success in getting them to come out perfectly, but that is probably due to user error!

I have the exact same Rockler Box Joint Jig. I've had it for a couple of years now and haven't had much luck with it. Perhaps, it was because I started with plywood rather than dimensional lumber. Anyway, I gave up on it. After watching this, you have motivated me to give it another chance. Otherwise, I have another expensive paperweight. Nice video, as always.

Great video, but I am on the fence about getting one of these given all the negative reviews out there. Are these units (a) "all over the place" when it comes to accuracy, or (b) a little tricky to dial in so people give up to quickly? I like the convenience of the jig, but if it just sits on a shelf, it's not very convenient. :) I noticed that when you were tightening the knobs around the 5:40 mark, the jig moved and that worries me a little.

Thanks so much HibsMax! I felt like the jig was quite sturdy. I fully intend on using this jig this summer to build a bunch of drawers, so I will have a better idea at that point, to give you my opinion. The movement that you see at that timestamp, was due to me not having the miter slot screws tightened down (which you will need to do in order to set the distance between the key and the bit I noticed no movement when the jig was fully secured after setup. I hope this helps, but I will respond again if encounter any movement in the jig. All really important, thank you for pointing out your concerns!

I'm thinking.. yeah, it kind of hurt my brain, but I did it anyway. If you wanted to make a box instead of a drawer, you wouldn't want the dado for the bottom showing out the sides of the box. So, with a couple of stops on the fence and a rabbiting bit, I'm thinking you could make the dado stop before exiting end. Or is there a better way? Maybe you could make a video on how to size the bottom panel and do dados that don't show at all? I'm still kind of new to all this stuff.

Well, I think the best way to do it is to arrange the drawer bottom dado so that it faces in front and back. That way you can cover the front with the drawer face and no one will ever see it. Same with the back. No one will see that either in less you pull the drawer out! Hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching royruther!

Or move the jig over so you're using the edge (plus your stock) to set the bit height

I was brought one, and can you guess, it did not fit my router table, so I ended up making the runners a little longer and made the router bit hole slightly larger, so l can say it does not fit all router tables, l will be making another router table out of timber and not be using a pressed steel table made by a certain company here in UK.

Yeah, that is probably part of it, but this was really bad. some of the shelves were almost entirely bare! But great point! I hope that is the case! I'd hate to see my local woodcraft go out of business!

Further to my last comment, l still cannot make a box joint with the rockler jig, cutting the pins should be easy, but there are not, backing board on, put the key in, set the width and depth with my brass measurement bars, [putting a straight router bit in of the same size proir to measuring] can you guess what happens? the pins dont cut clean and the tearout ruins the pins, all the router bits were new for this project, l did not purchase up spiral bits due to the cost, l now think this is the problem, l have asked Rockler if they shed any light on this, now waiting for a reply. The price of the Rockler jig is far more than a router cutting jig, l can get one with the brass router bushes and dovetail bit for £75 made of pressed metal and Aluminium comb; but then l chose Rockler, Why? its smaller and a lot faster to set up and does not take up space on your work bench, l would be happy if it worked, ah well, must go back to the table saw for now, old trusty .

Oh man! I'm so sorry to hear that Phil! It sounds like you are doing everything correctly, I'd be interested to see what Rockler says. You should only be getting minimal tear out or none at all with the backboard. Sounds like something strange is going on. If Rockler knows what they are doing hopefully they will be able to fix the problem or refund your money. That's a shame, but thank you so much for sharing!

The jig is good, not great, it has some issues: when sliding the wood piece, the cart slides left and right due to poor tolerances and using MDF instead of aluminum in its construction!

Maybe this comment is somewhere here already...if you have a router lift, simply drill a small hole in the jig aligned to the lift hole...this shouldn't affect the function of the jig....
