Join us as we explore the fascinating world of sand dredging! From the heavy equipment used to the intricate operation of dredging, this video will give you an inside look at this important industry. Whether you're interested in construction or just love learning about unique jobs, this video is sure to amaze and educate you.
Atomic Sand's dredging operation is in Beech Island, SC. Here, we use an electric dredge to mine sand from the bottom of a HUGE manmade lake. The sand then gets processed through a sand classifier to prepare it for the ready mix concrete industry.
Dredging ain't cheap though! All that sand going through metal equipment causes a lot of wear & tear on the heavy equipment. Not to mention all the bulldozers, excavators, and various other pieces of equipment to keep the sand moving. It's a full time maintenance job just to stay in production!

Mr. Digg, I subscribed about a month ago after hearing DP talking about your channel. In that month I had come to the conclusion your operation was a landfill only until watching this video and just finishing watching DP's most recent video and I now see why he was so impressed with your ENTIRE operation and just what all it encompasses. I guess I better go and start looking at your videos prior to a month ago. Hope you won't get mad if I make a suggestion. Considering how many new viewers you have acquired recently, how about making a video just to show all us newbies just all what you have going out their, cause it's a whole lot more than just a landfill I now can see. I'm a retired builder, now living in the Philippines so I'm gonna start trying to watch at least one of your videos daily that you made prior to me subscribing unless I get carried away and start binge watching , it is the rainy season here so not much else to do.

Many years ago I ran the maintenance department for a company that processed Tabular Alumina. It at is the second hardest mineral on the planet. Take it up a notch, we crushed it to increase surface area, basically make it jagged and sharp. Screen and blend it for refractory use. The stuff was so abrasive that it would cut up anything! Metal was a contaminant in the end product so we lined everything with white gum rubber, the softer the material the more resistant to abrasion. We processed it down below.5 microns and you couldn’t keep it out of anything. The green button with the S on it wasn’t Start, it was Self Destruct! I know all too well about maintaining equipment! Lol Love the channel, keep it up!

Always amazing what can see, different dirt and aggregate, when you get a large area like you have open. Where I am we have 4-6” of topsoil then it’s hard brown dirt and lots of round rock from 2” to 2’. The 80 acre to the west of me has some rolling terrain that has some wonderful bank run gravel they leave sit. I got permission to build a backstop where the hill collapsed made a nice 500 yd range. When you get that place cleared out you have the makings of a “park” for gun dog training, add a shooting range, sporting clays. A friend of mine bought an old used and abused farm with some low area along the river. They have been going for 15 years now, made improvements yearly, I put roads in a few years back and they are able to stay open through November and open the higher part in March. This year I’m putting in a pen to raise Red Legs Chucker for sale to the trainers.

0) Thank you for sharing this! :-) 1) WARNING: If I remember correctly, one shouldn't have a fluids pomp run unless full of fluid. (This includes pressure washers.) So that blue diesel-driven pump may already be damaged. (I forgot why, after nearly fifty years.) 2) Recreational use of that site: - Just mention "zip line" to DirtPerfect, and he'll be off. (He posted a video some two years ago about a beloved zip line that was to be removed.) - Here in the Netherlands, notably around Amsterdam, we have several lakes, all(?) of them discarded land reclamations turned into sand pits, some 40 metres deep. The sand would be used to build city quarters on, the water surfaces are used for swimming and boating, but the water is also used by diving clubs. Something with decompression chambers. In Germany, former lignite mines have been repurposed this way. You might leave abolished equipment as diving targets. 3) Commercial use of that site after "exhaustion": - I could think of future "lakes" as freshwater reserves, especially if there should be housing or farming "nearby". - These lakes would likely lie too low to accomodate hydro power, but there might yet be some use for flattening daily demand curves. (Pumping water up at times of idle generators, using it at times of high demand.) - I'm a vegetarian, but the "lakes" might be fit for farming certain fish. (Mind the birds this would attract!) - You're considering a "water park". You might also consider developing house lots around the "lakes". There may be some demand for home lots with diving right next to the garden, and (on the contrary) for lots with "endless" shallow waters. - Possible part of a water park: a lake with artificial waves for surfing, likely generated using solar power. (I wonder if you could invent some "solid-state" approach instead of generating electricity to drive a motor.) Imagine: a freshwater site for surfing, no sharks (unless farmed...), too shallow for drowning. If the wave generator could be afloat, on wheels or based on a shipping container, you could adjust the direction of the waves to that of the wind. (At angles may be fun.) 4) You mentioned that meandering drain of one area. You may get inspiration from a project under construction here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qMqldLmntr-UnHk.htmlsi=uvaT3-3VyFzI-NEI (Dutch spoken, English captions)

Thank you for opening your operation to Dirt Perfect for a video recorded tour….I loved it. I heard that Let’s Dig 18 is going to post one too and look forward to that one as well. One of my favorite things is to see how things are made or how a business operates. The diversity of operations you have in that one facility is immense. Kindly consider making a few of your own videos that end up becoming a playlist of all your separate parts. It might reveal some inner dealings (removing the fear of the unknown) with certain disciplines that could benefit others. Like those considering implementing a plan to reduce the amount of buried treasures that get wasted in a landfill environment. Here’s a question: do you have magnets or any other means to capture metal that might get processed through your crushers or shredders? I suspect that you probably have a process that tries to keep it out from the start.
@TheRealMrDigg
@TheRealMrDigg 5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate your idea on the playlist too. Yes, both the crusher and grinders have super strong magnets to remove any metal from the final product. Both belt and head pulley rare earth magnets. Thanks again!

For the slip and slide take a loader rim and tire mount to a dozer blade to make a groove in the sand. It will keep you in a straight line to the water. Dish soap will burn the eyes and it does not taste good.

Hey Mr Digg, I'm just wondering if you had an electro magnet crane catching and metals in the land fill. As the trucks are dumping and before the dozer gets it, maybe you can recover some metal and put in a dump truck, you should recover enough to pay for the fuel for the day, .

i love the giant slip and slide idea but you may want to talk to a lawyer on properly making waivers to protect you and your business as these day seems everyone be looking to get rich by suing. as well as looking into what safety measures you might need in place to alleviate some liabilty

Yes, you are correct. I looked into it a few years ago, but ours was too high and some element that I can’t remember right now, I think boron. I was looking into it for the cosmetic industry.

I’ve been mining for 10 years now. Don’t think I’ve ever been through an inspection where the mine didn’t get atleast 1 violation 😂 I will say though having a bunch of people running around for a party might be something msha doesn’t take to kindly too. Not sure how that whole thing would work out so might want to look into that first before you get to far into it.

Isn’t the pit for the landfill coated with something, to prevent seepage into the groundwater? A landfill I often drive by, had to be dug up, cause the seal cracked, and it seeped into the groundwater. Man, the stink was incredible, smelt like sh!t for miles and miles😂

We dont have to have a liner since we dont accept any material that could contaminate groundwater. 👍

you should be able to settle out sand at scale using the landscape and stormwater - at a very low cost (water, gravity) - use reservoirs to adjust the volume for specific size drop out in your planned effluent channel - create a bloom the required size granulation right next to an excavator platform; in my head anyways. :) great show, good stories.
