Hi, thank you for this. I had a heart attack, and since then i have had palpitations.I am wondering if you have a video that can show me and others how to massage the vagus nerve to hopefully correct this? Also, can it also be used for diverticulitis? Thank you so much

I was ready to give up. I’ve been stabilized c2 is aligned currently and BP is went from super night to low when in meds… anxiety and depression relieved… even constipation and gut problems reduced. I will do these exercises for sure every day! Thank you!

Dr. Dawn, your video is well received and informative. It is very Fascinating how the VAGUS NERVE has come into Vogue pertaining to overall health concerns. I suffer with a number of Spinal Maladies form my SI Joints, through the Lumbar discs, to my Cervical spine, even a T9-T10 disc herniation. I'm 70 yo, and suffered a Right Femur fracture in 1966 (15 yo then), playing HS Football. When the Body cast was cutoff after 3 months, the right leg was 1 inch shorter than the left. It was left Unaddressed by the Ortho doctor and my parents (European immigrants - doctors / Nuns/ Priests were Never questioned). After 20 years or so, the fun began...lower back stiffness with mobility restrictions when bending over. A chiropractor that I visited for 6 sessions or so, said to me, the moment he met me:" Oh Boy, You got problems, and you will have many more down the road"... Oh Man was he right. He immediatley saw the Leg Length discrepancy affecting my hips and contributing to dextroscoliosis. FF to 2011, that's when I finally started to address the issues evolving and worsening. The cervical issues, I feel, have supplanted the lumbar issues in that, cervical instabilities are affecting the Vagus Nerve. I have Tinnitus, TMJ syndrome, lightheadedness, bouts of Incontinence / Overactive Bladder, IBS (that started in 1981 - 82 with the expectorant delivery of our 1st child), heart palpitations / anxiety attacks, peripheral nerve damage with a loss of Reflexes, neuropathy in the arms and legs ...... It SUX. Been to 5 Spinal / Neuro Surgeons for opinons.. all said no surgery for you, Too Much Arthritis in the spine and DDD. So, I do my own own research , like this channel, and many others which focus on the affects of Cervical Instabilities and the effects to the Vagus Nerve. THX for sharing your knowledge and supplying advice of exercises to try.

Oh, wow, reading your message I just had to share, as I have some similar issues and processes over long term. Chiros, PTs, surgeries, etc.only minimal results. I just found Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency Stimulation as a therapy, and it has regenerative effects from the cellular levels. It helps substantially for pain relief and I feel some recovery of muscles that have long been overtight and locked, impinging in nerves (piriformis). I think it must be having a healing effect on the motor nerves as well. Look up PEMF. Also, having a skilled ORTHOPTIST to make custom shoe insert for short leg is essential! They usually work alongside prosthetics specialists in a PT setting/practice. A skilled movement therapist will help restore muscle balance and re-educate firing patterns for gait, posture, and functional movement. Also "Thor" infra-red cold laser therapy breaks up scar tissue and stimulates regeneration by activating stem cells in tissues, even ligaments & tendons.

Stephanie, I have cervical issues including The classic C4-C7 disc herniations with arthritis and what is refrred to as Military Neck (loss of the curve - lordosis). 4 Surgical opinions said that I "could" be a candidate for surgery if the pain becomes unbearable. I have been researching the spinal issues for 5 years via the Internet. Gaining immense knowledge that Doctors just don't tell you!! It is Fascinating how the 10th Cranial Nerve , the Vagus Nerve (Vagus means meandering in Greek), connects the Brain stem , Central Nervous system, to many organs including the stomach , heart, etc. I have lumbar spine issues and suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease ( as many over 60 yo do, I'm 70 YO), stenosis and dextroscoliosis due to a shorter right leg of 1 " sustained as a result of a fractured femur in 1966 playing HS football. That Trauma , which was left Unaddressed for over 20 years has wreaked Havoc with my spine / hips, and overall physiology, traversing up to the Neck and has affected my peripheral nervous system. I'm left to only Pain Management to deal with it. Check out Caring Medical YT Channel - Dr. Ross Hauser. He lays out How Cervical Instabilities affects the aspects of your well being, especially where the Vagus nerve is concerned. The Vagus Nerve is connected to the Brain Stem , and meanders through the Atlas and Axis Vertebrae in the neck. Pinching that nerve creates contributes to the Misery Index !!. Be well & hope your surgery helped you

@@Chiroman527 Thank you for all the information. The human body is extraordinary. Obe of the things that stuck out for me was when you mentioned the neck effecting the stomach? The disc fusion I had on the same area as the lamenectomy had fell apart when I fell on the bus. I fell straight back, hitting my neck, upper and lower back. My concern is functional strength and having some sort of good quality of life these next 10-20 years. I believe I still can. All the best to you.

Stephanie, look at Caring Medical YT Channel. The doctor , Ross Hauser is an MD and chiropractor. His focus is on Cervical Instabilities and the vast Affects those issues have on your well being. I am still trying to locate a Prolotherapist locally by me in the NY Metro area. Not many that I can see. For what I suffer with, I will give anything a shot at helping me. Hauser is big proponent of applying Prolotherapy to help the body perform its own healing, no drugs. All the doctors I visit, all treat the symptoms, not the CAUSES. Typical mantra is ...."take a pillfor the Ill"

One of the most disheartening things is that as a bloke with Complex ptsd, it is seeming to be essentially a full time, life long process of intense education, readjustment, medications, treatments, preventions, clinicians etc. I feel cursed. Even with such a great support network around me and much therapy, which i praise God for, it still seems like an eternal march up a barren mountain. If it wasnt for meeting Jesus Christ at 25, i would have committed suicide already, like my Dad did in childhood or moved onto heroin. I have only dealt with this since 25 ( being set free from alot and healed of alot) i'm now thirty and there is much progress yet it still saddens me so much. All things are wearisome one might say, the eye never gets its fill of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. I apologise if this triggers anyone. Just a saddened bloke venting on a webpage. Please pray to Jesus for me.

Hi, yes even as a trained registered massage therapist, we discussed cranial nerve 10 (which IS the vagas nerve) so maybe that's why you think you don't know what you're doing, when maybe you do! Cranial nerve 10 was discussed only briefly, I don't even recall anything outstanding but it is HUGE in cause and effect. Perhaps they just didn't know or hadn't researched the vagas nerve until recently. BTW, generally speaking, massage works on everything if you know it or not, that's why anyone can do it....as long as you know the contraindications and go light, esp around the neck. I'm sure you do great massages! I think the best thing ever for vagus nerve stimulation is cold showers. Ya, I know. But it works! And you get to like it -

I have gastro paresis which resulted from a botched open gastric bypass in 2003, exploratory surgery two weeks later due to pancreatitis, another open surgery a year later to remove hernias all up and down the initial suture line and a re-do of the gastric bypass in 2012. Four cuts intersecting my vagus nerve made it not very happy. After several hospitalizations for it, one doctor finally got to see me having an attack while I was an inpatient; she hit on anxiety as a major cause of my attacks and recommended Ativan to keep the nausea and anxiety under better control. Lo and behold, it worked wonders. But this might just be a non-pharmaceutical way to avoid gastro paresis attacks. I’ll give it a try.

I did not know that they were regulated by that one nerve. I will give this a try for sure. She recently saw a neurologist and this wasn’t even part of the conversation. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wish I had discovered this sooner.. however, better late than never! A question please… how often should she perform the massage? I don’t want her to overstimulate and aggravate her issues. Thank you.. grateful. 🙏🏼

Thank you for watching the video. Massaging the vagus nerve, which can be stimulated through techniques such as deep and slow breathing, can be a part of a daily stress reduction routine. It's important to note that while gentle massage in the area of the carotid sinus (located on the neck where the vagus nerve is accessible) can be calming, it should be approached with caution and ideally under the guidance of a healthcare professional to avoid any potential risks, such as lowering the heart rate or blood pressure too much. Regular, daily practices that stimulate the vagus nerve in a safe way, like deep breathing exercises, can be beneficial for reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and improving overall well-being

I've been a massage therapist for 16 years & Myofascial therapist for about 9 years. It is likely that if you are consistently looking to your right, the muscles on the right side of your neck and shoulder are chronically shortened and tight, while the left side muscles are chronically overextended. While both sides need to be addressed it is your right side that would need to be lengthened and relaxed whereas the left side needs some work that would make the muscles stronger and more supple.

Does this help keep the HPA axis calm? I’m part of the Cushing’s Disease community. We’re always searching for ways to help regulate that axis. A dysfunctional axis seems to be what’s developing the ACTH tumors, which are notorious for returning. Many of us are trauma survivors with PTSD or CPTSD issues. Our body’s attempts at managing the traumatic events and prolonged stress caused the need for an increase in cortisol production, thus the tumors. Yoga and meditation is helpful for some of us, but not everyone is healthy enough for yoga, or has the ability to focus on meditation because they’re so anxious! I’m having a recurrence of symptoms but no sign of a tumor, yet. I’m trying to jump on it before it gets worse. Thanks for your videos, very informative!

Disagree about the high fat diet because much depends on the types of fats consumed. Fat for Fuel (book) by Mercola explains it brilliantly. Quality matters in all macros (Fat, Protein, Carbs...). So does how clean all your food is. Standard USDA is not my idea of clean food.

Will this help someone i know? She has a not-light-at-all form of bi-polar, with high tendency for personality disorder episodes. It’s very hard for stress not to UNCONTROLLABLY “change” her, sometimes just the FEAR of stress or trauma. And often emotions, talks or situations that might threaten or just affect her sense of security/esteem/rejection/etc may trigger her into any mild or full-on level of “over-reactive” mode, visible by a very compulsive defensive-offensive stance, or more sadly, a frightful-to-panicked presence. Many times one after the other, almost as one personality reacting to the other. Sorry for long description, was just wondering if a highly sensitive vagal nerve was very connected to this.

Claim that the healing prescence in your subconscious is flowing through you as harmony, health, peace, joy and abundance. Hi, thanks for sharing this ...unknowingly - of the vagus nerve but I have been doing this for years as my nerves are often iffy cause of my hormone replacement, it really helps soothe, cool down and feel great all day.....a daily practice brings amazing results...the way you mentioned the details scientifically, i have just been doing it most of it for years out of knowing the body.....thanks a lot, am going to start again today....and be regular 💖✨ P.S. if you could please guide me with this: i lost one of a very precious videos i heard about HPA axis where you touched about in a topic i really be interested in....i had a terrible trauma since my childhood that am currently working from years now.....so my pituitary (doc says rarest of rare) works but I do have Hypopitutarism.......I have been under medication for decade now, however lately i tapered and left my medicine and felt equally good....my pituitary is flat but works and even secretes a fine amount of cortisol....while hydrocortisone has its goods and many bads.....I got really resonated with your concept of - hot water running too much that it has cool down but till what limit, so the secretion(HPA axis goes off)....excuse my words, am not doctor but I understand my situation, body more holistically..... Could you please suggest how can u work naturally to bring the HPA axis back to its orbit :) (ofcourse balancing that luke warm technique).....I really hope my query is clear, i will be more than happy to explain in a more scientific way, connecting things with trauma in my home since i was born (your concept of not feeling happy/safe in safe zone ) because most doctors did seminars and research on my particular case....never found a thing....and just concluded it must be by birth.....However all body functions, periods, secretions were absolutely balanced till i was 19-20years....thereby things went slow and periods went off (i rememberyou mentioning about GABA- it's not the time for pleasure/creativity/sexual - it's also connected to sacral chakra - things are much better since i have worked with my body in natural ways - eating, working outs, massages, nerve massage, pranayaam and meditations)......I have a strong feeling my HPA axis could be brought back....naturally....as for last 1.5years i have put in my day, night, soul releasing and healing that trauma and all traits and people related to it....I had a narcissistic and Co-dep parents and a greater god brother....I was scapegoated for 39 years ... .when this all caught my attention......and i worked on healing it all....through self, detachments and a lot of other healing practices. I FEEL YOUR APPROACH CAN HELP ME WITH MY PITUITARY .....please reply to advise/guide .....Many thanks for your videos ....they are exceptional knowledge house and are helping me immensely.....i listen to each atleast twice to get the hold of it, make points to work....Thanks..... In anticipation of a reply to my query....thanku so much again ! ✨

I had a traumatic brain injury in 2013 with a right temporal lobe fracture and fracture in base of skull……maybe a year or 2 later (I can’t remember when it started) but I started getting these shooting pains on the right side of my neck that feel like nerve pain. So is it possible to actually feel pain with the vagus nerve? Or what else could it be? I fractured a small bone in my right inner ear too. I don’t necessarily have any other symptoms except for that sharp pain in the right side of my neck…..massaging it doesn’t work, cause I’ve naturally tried. 🤔
