(I spent three days straight doing that when I discovered her just prior to Easter.) During ‘Gloomy Sunday’ you laughed when you saw the judge’s jaw dropped. Yours had been there the whole time also. During ‘I Put A Spell On You”, you got so overwhelmed that you retreated to the rear wall and crossed your arms for self-protection. Once your mind gets past the shock of seeing and hearing something that should not be happening, then you will find her voice to be a welcomed warm embrace. Many people get goosebumps regularly, others get lots of tears. (I’ve had tears all but 3 of the past 140+ days, and never a day before.) Welcome to Angelina’s universe. She was 7 when entered Norway got Talent and 8 when she won. She was 9 when she did I Put A Spell On You. So there is a a bit over a year between the two performances. With I Put A Spell On You she also did a bunch of the arrangement. The sheet she gives at the beginning are some last minutes changes she called her list of wishes. Amy is one of her inspirations. Others are Billie, Ella, Etta, Frank, Queen, Adele, Michael, Aretha, the Beatles, Elvis, Whitney and also more contemporary artists such as Labyrinth, Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey and Rihanna. There is a beautiful reason why she goes barefoot: when she was 6 she gave away her shoes to a poor street girl. Even since, she has performed barefoot to raise awareness for poor children. Our little barefoot angel is growing up, and singing less jazz. But that's still where her heart is. And she still lets it pop up from time to time. Angelina does all her own arrangements and nobody is going to tell her how to sing a song. She showed Elvis how Suspicious Minds should have been sung.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZfaq. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Very simply, Angelina is the best singer I’ve ever heard. I’m in my seventies and followed music all my life. No one has the voice, the musicality, and the delivery of Angelina. She is truly once in a lifetime-and I’ve heard all the great popular singers. You heard two bluesy songs today, but Angelina covers five or six genres authentically, beautifully. If you want to hear one of the best jazz voices ever, watch her recent cover of My Funny Valentine. Or watch her just released cover of Elvis’s Suspicious Minds to see how Angelina can stun you with her ability to make an iconic song completely her own. But if you’ve listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, you already know that. There are way too many recommendations. Just start listening-any age, any genre.

It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad, where I wanted to listen to jazz on KZfaq before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song “Gloomy Sunday” that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. From TIME magazine This 7-Year Old's Incredible Voice Will Give You Chills as She Channels Billie Holiday BY MELISSA LOCKER MARCH 10, 2014 11:59 AM EDT A 7-year-old girl managed to absolutely wow the judges on a televised talent show with her spot-on rendition of Billy Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday.” The youngster, Angelina Jordan, appeared on the stage of “Norway’s Got Talent”, barefoot and in a white dress, and announced that she would be be singing Holiday’s dark jazz standard. The skeptical judges were blown away from the moment she started singing.

Her AGT audition is a very good choice as she uses it to showcase her voice and the arrangement she does of the song is very special. She's Norwegian. Remember English isn't her first language. 👍She swore to never have shoes on stage until every child have shoes, because she met a kid on the street with no shoes and she gave away her shoes to the kid. She's 16 now and still performing barefoot. She is the barefoot queen 👑

You need to go back to near the beginning when she was only six years old. She was in a recording studio at six years old recording “I who have nothing”. A child prodigy is definitely an understatement.

Angelina is a prodigy and much more she has a heart of gold and has worked to raise funds for children's needs and environmental things all before the age of 16, she gave her shoes to a poor child around the age of 4 or 5, and was the youngest author in Norway with the story about why she performs without shoes. your life just changed,her voice is a balm. shes got nearly 200 videos from age 6 onward. we get to enjoy watching a prodigy grow and grow into the young adult she is now. after watching her for 4 years now, nearly everyday, it becomes a family event and proud feeling as she continues to amaze. This song never grows old. The word gonbsmacked in the dictionary refers you to this video, I Put a Spell on You. 😃

Any one of us would do anything to protect her, she is so, so precious. Some have already explained about why she is barefoot. I have her book, Mellom to Hyerter (between two hearts) which she wrote as to why she performs barefoot. It was published when she was just nine, making her the youngest published author in Norway. Just consider the fact that she wrote the content of this in her diary when the encounter happened when she was six. Simply stunning❤❤
