I grew up in the ancient rain forests on the Olympic Peninsula, where moisture was abundant and so were the wild, edible mushrooms! Since moving to California, I've been able to experince all new terrains and explore new flora and fauna.
Our friends, Annie (@AnniesFishTales) and Nick were kind enough to take us out and show us a sampling of all the WONDERFUL edible mushroom varieties found on the Sonoma Coast! Follow along on the adventure and hopefully feel inspired to go explore the woods for wild edibles in your home turf!

There’s more in California than you think. As a kid in Livermore there was tons of fruit hanging over fences in playgrounds like apricot trees and plums you could snack on and later I lived in lake county. The local fruit can be to die for. local fruit stands can surprise you.

@@matthewguth7227 the best watermelon I ever had was a kid by the side of the road in Redding selling watermelons his mother let him grow in the back yard. I even took a couple home to coos county. Summer peaches.

Oh, man. The farmers markets and road side stands are amazing. Locally grown produce, on small farms here is 1000x more flavorful than anything factory farm grown. We had the best strawberries I’ve ever had here, as well as peaches last fall. The difference is incredible.

Great to have mentors in learning something new. You are doing something else I'm fearful of doing (beside fishing AND pulling crab pots from a kayak). I know three mushrooms I would pick. I stay away from every thing else..... :)

Thats a good place to start. There are tons of great books out there to help identify more, as well as great groups to join like the oregon mycological society!

I have foraged mushrooms every since I could walk. Those jelly mushrooms have virtually no flavor so you can infuse them with whatever you want.

This is awesome! I need to expand my knowledge of wild mushrooms. Some are legal here in Canada now... Lol. Thank you for sharing this! Love and blessings from Ontario!

Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed. Matt (the camera guy) is from the mid west and says there are lots of good edible mushrooms - i think Morels? that are extremely popular and delicious! Would think they're in Ontario too!

@@BadAshOutdoors Yes. Our area referred to as the Canadian Shield is very rocky much like your west coast and our BC and Alberta. It is nice to be able to get up north a few hours for this. I'm near Toronto on Lake Ontario so we need to get pretty far north to get out of the city for God's Country. Worth the drive! Thanks again, Ash!

I’ve always enjoyed the chanterelles and chicken of the woods, but I can’t identify much more yet. I have seen plenty out here in Oregon though. Looks like you had a good day.
