omgggg i’ve just finished watching your previous reaction, and i’m so happy that you're reacting to this one. it's a really good way to get to know them as singers, their discography and their personalities as well which you haven't failed to analyze. one thing about red velvet is that their music is very polished and well thought-out. it's one thing i love the most because even if a song isn't to my taste, i can't ever say that it's a bad song because it's really well made. their vocals are definitely the standout of their music as well, they do their own backing vocals, harmonies, ad-libs as you've seen, and they can all sing really well. Wendy, Joy, and Seulgi all have solo albums that you should check out because it REALLY portrays each one's individual strengths and styles and even personalities. Irene and Yeri haven't had a proper solo project yet unfortunately (neither did Joy since her album is just a remake album but it's official and suits her so much since she was the one who thought of each song to sing and in what style), but Irene and Seulgi have once formed a sub-unit and debuted with a mini album called Monster, and a single called Naughty which are extremely interesting and worth checking out. another thing is that their side tracks ALWAYS overpower their title tracks and that's something that i've never ever seen any group do. most focus too much on the lead singles and title tracks and forget to put high-quality b-sides but red velvet puts the same amount of work and quality on each song and they're famous for having the best discography in k-pop by fans, non-fans and especially music critics who are always in love with them. plus, all producers in korea and outside want to work with them because they have so much individuality and versatility that no other group has, so it adds a lot of freedom to them in the sense that they can throw any concept or vocal range or production on red velvet and they'd still be able to pull it off and make it their own. now about the members, you got wendy and joy correct. and yes, joy DOES embody joy and happiness with her aura, her voice and her energy. she's got my favorite vocal tone and timber in all of k-pop and i love her so much, her personality carries so much hope, happiness, optimism, perfectionism (she's usually hard on herself and when she doesn't do the right thing, it can be tough on her but thank god the other members are with her) and JOY. seulgi, was the second one to the right, the only thing i will say about her is that she's an ACE. she's the lead vocalist (just like joy), and she's the main dancer, recognized by everyone in SM as top 3 dancers in the company and one of the best in general. her personality is a literal representation of a bear which is her representative animal. she's warm, genuinely kind to everyone, so sweet and VERY passionate about what she loves. she's got a very unique voice and is the one who usually does the ad-libs, of course after wendy. wendy, THE main vocalist. aka the best singer in k-pop, is just a legend. vocal range, technique, versatility, emotion, passion...she's got them all. and the thing i love the most about her is that she knows no limits and she's so incredibly humble. there was a time where she got into an incident where it was uncertain whether she would be able to sing again, but she was literally practicing with her voice even in that state, and that just shows how much she's serious about this and how much she loves singing. her passion and her energy is the best and she's the hypeman of the group. she's so sweet and attentive to her members and her fans, always trying to lift the mood and make everyone feel good. not to mention that she can dance and rap extremely well especially recently, she got so so much better. yeri, the youngest, the little cutie who you thought was an introvert. which is true, she is an introvert, but she's more like a loud one. she's very authentic and caring. her personality is very embracing and just so comforting. she's like the sister that you could have with whom you share everything, and would NEVER judge you. now about her talents, she's a rapper and a singer. she melodically raps most of the time in songs but recently she's been given a lot of singing lines which makes me really happy because her vocal tone is very unique and she's got talent. the thing i want to mention the most about her is that she's usually the base of their harmonies. in almost every part that they sing together, her voice stands out the most and is like i said the base of the harmony/union. (and yes you were correct, they are very specific about harmonies and when they sing in union, there won't be a time when you get the same vibe when they're singing together, each time a member stands out or is the main focus of that harmony). now irene, as you guessed, the eldest in the group. there's so much to say about her. she's The ice queen, she always seems to people as cold, intimidating, dark, mysterious and elegant. and that's her aesthetic, even with her voice. she's got a really soothing, dark and enchanting tone. i'd say she's got the most neutral tone of all of them since their voices all carry a certain uniqueness. but hers is the one that blends them all together and makes their songs a perfect combination. she's very laid back and calm and again, elegant even when she's not trying to be. she's also very caring and affectionate and attentive to the little details, she knew yeri when the latter was still in elementary school, so she basically raised a child until yeri became, 24. now her positions are...a lot. she's for one the main rapper, her raps are not in your face, but usually more about the vibe. she's of course, a vocalist. her voice is really soothing and suitable for slow songs, but is even more suited for very dark and horror-esque concepts. she's the visual, the center and the face of the group as well. she's always mentioned when people talk about visuals and korean beauty standards as she meets all of them (except the height criteria lmao) and is the number one idol whose face plastic surgeons get the most requests to "recreate" and take parts from to do on their clients. she is a lead dancer, a very sensual and smooth dancer, and it's worth mentioning that her stage presence is one of the best. she NEVER outperforms or underperforms, she performs in her own style, minor facial expressions, smooth dancing rather than aggressive and inelegant and she is in my opinion the best at representing the song they perform with her stage presence. she always knows what to do to exactly catch your attention and at the same time show the concept of the song and dance with her style, and i love that so much. anyway, i think you should definitely listen to all their title tracks, watch a guide (preferably a recent one) and definitely listen to their albums to really get to know Red Velvet. love the reaction, keep it up!!

I would actually say that Girls Generation (2nd gen) were the progenitors of the switch ups mid-song. They walked so RV could run. I would say I Got A Boy especially is a great example of this. :) But overall yeah it's a very SM thing lol.

Changing the sound of the song multiple times as it progresses, yes. I don't know if they were actually the first group to do things that way but they are definitely the most widely-known for being very experimental with sounds. No two of their songs sound alike because they mix genres all the time. You may have two songs that both have Pop and R&B in them but the songs won't sound at all related. Only their voices give them away as being the same group. They are AMAZING with the range of genres they cover and fuse; they are just as great at that as Dreamcatcher is, just not Rock or Metal themed most of the time (although they HAVE put a Metal Guitar in at least one part of one song but it was far too brief, treated as merely another experiment, nothing permanent).

3:34 the main part of this has to do with the fact yeri didn't actually debut with the other girls! when this song released in 2014, only 4/5 of the members actually debuted. yeri was added to the line-up in 2015 with their song ice cream cake. they've never released an official ot5 version of happiness so yeri just... kind of isn't in it since it isn't technically her song lol

this is just a group suggestion but i highly recommend checking out gfriend they're an insane vocal group that disbanded but back when they were still a group you could argue they were one of the best groups out vocally, they're also known for their insane dance skills! love the video keep up the great work

Yeri is the biggest Social aspect of this group.(Maybe Wendy) Yeri's best friends could possibly be Suhyun of Akmu. Mainly because they debuted about the same time and they are a couple months apart in age. They were so much younger than all the idols at that time. Until Twice came at the end of the year.

Funny thing, Red Velvet's debut was considered to be an absolute failure, the sales weren't high enough for an SM group, and people didn't seem to like them at all. And now look at them, one of the most respected 3rd gen group.
