As a Tokyo resident, I love to escape to Izu in summer. There is so much to see and do especially if you like sea related activities like scuba diving. At the southernmost point of Izu there a very special ryokan called ryugu which is pretty hidden, awesome experience.

Nice trip, but the video should mention prices. How much was the ryokan and electric bikes rental?
@japanguide
@japanguide 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! We try to avoid mentioning prices since they change from one year to another and also sometimes vary depending on the season. The hotel rooms go from around 6,000 yen without meals to 40,000 yen with 2 meals. The bicycle rental go from 1,000 yen for an hour, 3,000 yen for 4 hours and 5,000 yen for a full day. Hope this helps!

Hey, that's a nice video! But you should do another video of the west coast of Izu!! It's way more spectacular than the more developed east coast. However, that means renting a car, but it's so worth! :D

Excellent video! However, how did you get to the Jogasaki Coast trail? It is a long distance from the nearest train station. Can you please explain. Thank you.
@japanguide
@japanguide 2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! To get to the Jogasaki Coast trail, we took a train from Izukyu Shimoda Station to Izu Kogen Station, where we took a bus bound for Kaiyo Koen (海洋公園) and got off at Izu Kaiyo Koen. Here is more information on the Jogasaki Coast and access: www.japan-guide.com/e/e6308.html Hope this helps!

Do you have to reserve the bikes, hotel, shuttle in advance if you arrive in Tokyo 2nd week of May?? First time Japan travelers here.

After looking it up, is it possible that there is a mistake at 6:03? The Shimoda Treaty was between Japan and Russia, and the treaty that Perry signed, which first opened japan to foreign trade was signed in Kanagawa. Edit: I find conflicting information about the Treaty of Amity and Commerce, also known as Harris Treaty, which was either signed at Ryosen-ji in Shimoda or on his ship in the bay of Tokyo. Ryosen-ji also served as Perry's residence when he was visiting Shimoda after the Treaty of Kanagawa was signed.

I'm curious. What would a traveler do with their luggage during this itinerary since they don't check into their hotel until 3 towns in?
@japanguide
@japanguide Ай бұрын
Travelers could use coin lockers at the stations, or - because this is just an overnight trip from Tokyo - leave their big bags in Tokyo and bring just a small bag. Those making this trip not as a side trip from Tokyo could consider shipping their large suitcase to a future base and just use a small bag for the Izu side trip. More about luggage in Japan: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2274.html

Good question! There are hourly buses from Kawazu Station that will take you directly to the upper or lower ends of the trail that leads past the waterfalls. If you need more information regarding access: www.japan-guide.com/e/e6313.html Hope this helps!

Having such advanc3d and maintained train system, the tickets system seems so convoluted. Why require a passport, youre already in the country, you showed it in the airport.
@helenloh5460

Locals cannot buy the pass which is sold at a discount. It's exclusive for foreigners only, that's why need to show passport
