Had mine flushed by these guys last week. Great service, very pleased. It has fixing a few issues I was having. Shuddering and the taco waving up and down at about 1800 rpm as if was not sure about going down a gear. Any all sorted. They also found and advised on a few other issues. I have done 278K miles in my Disco and still sweet!

Wish I'd seen this a year ago. My D3 is at 133,000 miles and since I bought it at 120,000 it had variable revs on cruise control from the outset... then it started to shudder under load in 3rd gear (about 2000rpm). At this point I had the rear prop bearing changed (no difference) and then the gearbox fluid changed (no difference)... and the shudder was getting worse. Only then was this megaflush solution mentioned (talking to the right people at last!). £350 for the flush - or £3,500 for a replacement gearbox and TC. The final symptom appeared on the drive to my chosen workshop to get this done - variable revs when being driven normally. The difference was staggering. Rock-steady revs, much less transmission noise, silky-smooth changes and NO JUDDERING! That was done a month ago, so whilst the effects are immediate and fantastic, I can't say anything about longevity... I suppose it will depend upon how far gone the box was in the first place. The LR advice to change at 150,000 miles is little short of criminal negligence since the fluid manufacturer state the fluid should be changed at 120,000 miles and ZF state the box should be FLUSHED at 80,000 miles. Unfortunately even the Haynes manual has fallen for the Land Rover lie; ignore them.

I had this done on my TDV6, made a big difference. Much better gear changes, smooth and no shudder. the cost £200 inc vat. 10/2014. Very friendly garage and happy to help over the phone when I phoned for advice.

Does the filter and pan get changed also before the flush??

well done at last a good home cooked mechanic who shows a problem that can be fairly easy to fix with out going to a dodgey mechanic and getting charged an arm an leg,i have the very same problem with my disco 3 v6 auto ,i thought! here we go new gearbox needed!!! sir.Oh No its Not.thanks .colin.

This is not done anymore in my area due to solids in the gearbox filter being dislodged during the process and then being left in the gearbox to cause problems. Shops are now going back to changing the pan filter and fluid.

Its now £250 inc, due to some vehicles needing more oil to flush and come through clear. That's what I was told last week.

We also flush TDV8 vehicles and many other Petrol too - but only Land Rover / Range Rovers - Sorry just takes too long to make connectors for a other makes

If you remove the gearbox lower cover and filter and renew the lower cover and filter, do you still need to do a mega flush?

The solids in the filter will be reducing the oil flow to the gearbox causing more damage to the gearbox - Also very few of these machines in the UK due to the cost of the equipment so the average garage and many gearbox specialists are not able to carry out this type of service so can only drain and refill / change filter or worse still change the complete gearbox
