I love Disgaea games now, but I certainly missed out it along with many classics during my childhood. I remember ragequitting the original Disgaea on my PS2 because I was young back in 2003 and because didn't understand the simple mechanics - I was more into Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter at the time.
Replaying Disgaea on Steam as an adult was a lot more fun! You need to do a bit of research on its mechanics - there aren't many SRPGs now, it's dominated mostly by Fire Emblem and itself, and when you compare those two series, they're vastly different. Replaying Disgaea on the steam version added many "quality of life" improvements over the original release of the game.
I ended up playing Disgaea 2 when it was released on Steam, which has a walkthrough on this channel. Doing research, the developers released complete editions of Disgaea 3 and Disgaea 4 on the PS Vita. These include all the DLC titles and stories for free in a nice all-in-one package!
I played Disgaea 5 when it was first released, and boy oh boy I was pretty mad that it would cost upwards of $5 CAD per single character for each of maybe a dozen to twenty characters. When I did the math, I'd be paying for the game's whole price again or twice just to get all the DLC. PSN store prices don't ever come down except for a sale once or twice a year, and you can't buy these kinds of DLC physically (so no used prices for you!).
That's something I don't agree with - I prefer waiting for "complete" editions to come out which includes all DLC for a single price tag. Anyways, please enjoy these playthroughs of Disgaea 3 and Disgaea 4. I platinumed both - they were some pretty fun games with great character interaction and strategic gameplay!
