I buy chemwick desolder braid on ebay for $18 for 50 ft roll, it is only 3 mm wide but I do a lot of car amplifier repairs! But I did learn a little bit from watching your video's some of the pre-amp circuits in smd based amps won't always work due to a resistor being out of it's normal range in resistance! Had a PPI that was giving me a few issues with no audio input, checked a few resistors and had to change them, now I have one more preamp section to diagnose on it and it will be finished! So thanks for the videos!

I watched the video in two parts so sorry if I forgot something: - did you fix the broken red pad at about @6:40 ? - the "20P 7A" chip has multiple pins soldered together, is this correct or did you miss to clean solder it? From the trace on the board I would say they go onto the same lane so should be no problem? @47:11

I know you've probably thought of the economics of this but have you thought of doing "board swap-outs?" Basically, when a customer comes in needing board repair, you could just do a full board replace on the spot. They'd pay a flat rate and walk out the door on the spot. Then you would keep the broken boards and fix them slowly. You'd not only get a lot of donor boards, but you'd also have time to take the extra measures that you say you'd be able to take if consumer demands were reasonable. PS: the videos are great, keep up the good work!

I cannot believe that Louis has this micro SMD skill. I have to do the same work, but on digital boards for consumer entertainment stuff, audio, TV, flat sreen, etc., not computers. And my skill is no better than Louis. I have shied away from this work, thinking it is much too tedious and difficult to be practical or even possible all day long. Also, my eyes are not as sharp as they once were. So if Louis is not the best skilled at this SMD stuff and yet, he does it all day long, what is he doing? Bringing home the bacon! That is what he is doing. I never put two and two together until I got to watch someone like Louis do this, not complain about it, and just "get it done". Without this attitude, he is out of work. So he brings home the bacon, day after day! If I had adopted this attitude years ago, I could have done so much more in my practical board repair days. I just hated it and did not think about the bacon, yet that is the whole reason we do this. Watching Louis do this with no skill better than my own has given me a new confidence about this work. Very good motivational video!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that fuse you replaced on the board a polyfuse? So heating it up wouldn't really decrease it's lifespan like a one off fuse. I can't remember if only the green ones are polyfuses so I could be very wrong.

Hi Louis Rossman, at 21:13 you said " it's magnifying twenty three time ". So, a 30X electronic microscope is just right? Thank you for this video (for theses videos).
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 8 жыл бұрын
30x is too much IMO. If I could only choose ONE magnification I'd go with 10x. 30x and every single board movement starts to put the board out of focus, makes focus adjustment difficult. 30x is also too much to see individual ICs sometimes.
@AIexanderHartdegen
@AIexanderHartdegen 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I have really no idea about how 10X, 20X or 30X magnify the working surface area. I worked with a sheap 17 dollars usb electronic microscope and it's claimed magnifying until 1000X. unfortunately this kind of device don't permit a long distance for working with the soldering iron, and it was just a quick troubleshooting solution. Anyway I am not a professionnal on electronic but I think I need one of this real microscope. You talk in one of your video about Amscope SE400, and I think with the 20X max it will be perfect for me, the price included too.
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 8 жыл бұрын
for our work 10x. the se400 has useless 20x magnification because those lenses give you very tiny area. it is like looking through a keyhole. the se400 is only usable at 10x.

how do you charge less than half of what apple charges and make a profit? and as long as I'm asking questions I have the following question that you can feel free to ignore are apple computers overpriced? I've always thought they are, but apple users (non fanboys) made the salient point that apple computers come with a ridiculously good warranty. is the warranty the reason apple computers are so much more expensive? is the warranty worth it?
@andrefpereiraalves
@andrefpereiraalves 8 жыл бұрын
@hornylink Apple charges so much to repair because they take the board to trash and replace with a new one, I think ! And I think that this price that he charged may rise or fall, due to the time that he wastes on the board. And for example, this board had a lot of work on it, in comparison to other no blacklight board repairs, I think !
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 8 жыл бұрын
the cost of this repair is limited to the few dollars of parts I put on it + cost of my time. Once equipment is paid for it really is a matter of taking a few bucks worth of components and putting them on there.

i just had the strangest dream, i was with someone and they suddenly collapsed. i tried to call 911, as soon as i heard someone pick up i was like i need help i think this person is dying, next thing i hear is "you're an idiot, look at the number you just called" so i hang up dial again, same person answers, i say someone is dying and i hear "if you dont pay attention to the number you're calling your friend is going to die" so im thinking (man this dispatch person is so unprofessional) i hang up, this time i look at my phone as i dial 911 and suddenly louis rossman shows up as a contact and im like (what the hell)

How much money do you spend on flux annually? Im just curious because it seems to be the duct tape of your repair. Clean something? Flux. Replace something? Flux. Solder something? Flux. Mother fluxing all day every day.
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 8 жыл бұрын
it is an essential tool for a good job. it isn't duct tape, it's a tool used for permanent, long lasting solutions. i spend a decent amount on flux but i resell it so i am like a junkie who gets high on his own supply. overall it is profitable for me.
