The Fisher Paykel Dishdrawer Dish washer, broken but I fixed it.
How to change the rotor and fix a blockage.
This was a model DS603 but it should apply to other models

The blades on your rotor looked just fine. Certainly not enough wear to keep them from working adequately. These units are susceptible to blocked drain lines because the lines small diameter flex hose/tubing that catches debris. USING TOO MUCH POWDERED DISHWASHER SOAP IS OFTEN THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. It doesn't all get dissolved fully and creates a gooey sloppy paste that looks like mashed potatoes. Only use the minimum soap necessary and you will reduce the chances of clogged drain lines. Your idea for using weed trimmer line to "snake" the drain lines is "genious" and works great! Thanks!

Great tip, thank you! I think underdesolved powder would speed up erosion of the rubbers on the filter plate too (very costly to replace) aswell as creating rubbery, gunky waste

Mark, you are a star! Used the strimmer cord flossing technique and a lump of mushroom later, the dishwasher was back to draining normally! Thanks for taking the time to post such clear and straightforward instructions, Ta again, Alan and Jane.

Thanks, this helped me to discover a toothpick that had found it's way into the inner chamber there. After removing that, back to normal drainage usage. To counter the haters, we love the dishdrawer style dishwasher.

You aren’t kidding. This short film falls into the obvious documentary genre. You know what they say about the word “ASSUME”. It checks so many more boxes. Couldn’t be a better example of a sleeper film. Yes it’s informative-ish but don’t forget the other elements they don’t want you to know about. The horror and comedic aspects really resonated with me. That coupled with the lead actor’s improvisation during the attempted repair made this a must see. Spoiler Alert I can’t wait for the sequel. I hope part two shows the dishwasher functioning. I wonder if he has a latex allergy? Was that raw sewage? Did I see spinach? Who’s walking around without a tooth?

Hi Mark, last time I called a tech it cost me $500 plus. Watched your video and found rotar ok but plastic, hair like gunk and a large plastic 1cm oval black button type device in the drain pipe where rotar goes. Cleared it using whipper snipper cord. Initially cord wou;dn't go through at all as loads of resistance. It took 7 attempts to get all the items out of the small section of pipe. Obviously the items were restricting the water flow in the channel. Whoop whoop, it works beautifully and nil cost. Thank you so much. Anne

Thanks for posting this up. Until I saw your video, there was no way I would have ever been able to disassemble my dish drawer but after watching, I had a very clear idea how to pull it apart and replace the rotor. Thank god there wasn't anything more to it than the rotor, so many thanks for your help, it's working like a charm once again :D

Thanks for posting this video. I found it very helpful. I managed to fix my issue. One thing that came to me while I was messing around with the rotor was that I knew the rotor on the other dish drawer was functioning. I did a swap, and when the drawer still didn't work I knew it wasn't a faulty rotor. in the end I used a plunger like someone else suggested and this unblocked things in about five seconds.

Really helpful video. I had been having problems because the installer didn't install the " high loop" high enough; however, after moving the loop up, I then had to cleaned up the accumulated crud. Taking everything apart as shown and cleaning everything really helped. I did start the washer, wait for it to fill and added a cup of white vinegar, that seemed to be cheaper than the citric acid products sold in the store for cleaning dishwashers...

Another success from clearing the channels under the impeller at ~6oclock and ~7oclock (to the bottom filter and main drain respectively). I used a pipe cleaner my wife had handy for some metal drinking straws. In my case - it was a little pellet of what turned out to be very compressed foil, from the wrapping around those little dishwasher blocks. Couldn't have been bigger than a tic tac, but those drainage lines are very thin. Thanks for the tips!

1/27/2017. Thank you for the video. Saved us a callout charge and other fees. Issue with ours was in the discharge hose. Plugged with nasty crap. When we unhooked it from the garbage disposal connection, there was a horrible smell. Sucked the plug out with a Bissell, then flushed it and all is good. Probably replace the impeller assembly as some point, but good for now. Thanks again.

Just wanted to say thank you very much!! I watched your clip and with the line trimmer and mini pump in hand gave it a good go. The top drawer till didn't drain the water. Swapped the working drawer rotor for the non draining drawers rotor and it worked!! I rang F&P to order the spare rotor and it turns out i get 2 free rotors sent out to me, due to the recall of certain dishwasher models. Yay!! You've made my day!! Bless you!

Thank you very much for the video. My double drawer works fine after a good cleaning of the passageways. Has anyone encountered after completing the washing cycle for the top drawer, I noticed abit of the waste water has leaked to the bottom drawer(the latter was empty/not used). I just run the rinse cycle for the bottom drawer to empty the residue. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated . Thank you

Thanks mate. Was about to give up but I finally managed to get the snipper cord down the drain hole. Lo and behold the dishwasher drained again. If it wasn't for you saying what a pain I the arse it was I would have given up. Took me about 100 goes to get it to feed through. Looks like it doesn't take much to block the drain tubes. Can't believe the filter actually does much...

Brilliant video mate - grabbed 5 bucks of weed trimmer line as suggested and fixed it myself! Only problem I found was that there were a few bits of crap REALLY stuck in that channel. So to fix that I cut off about 5 equal lengths of the weed trimmer line and gathered them all into a bundle and ran them all down the channel all at once - meant I could shove it quite forcefully down that channel and push the stuck bits out. Great stuff

Thanks mark - Mine was making a horrible groaning sound and also stopped draining. I had figured out how to disassemble it but that was as far as I got. The short tube wasn't blocked but I didn't know about the other harder to find one. Shoved a bit of twisted wire down it and it was hard to get it in at first. The all of a sudden it went through. Must have dislodged something I think. Anyway put it back together, turned on the rinse cycle and Hey Presto .. it works. Awesome mate .. save me $1899 because that is what a new one costs and then extra to get it installed. Also the wife thinks I'm a genius now haha.

Having water build up in my DishDrawer, I siphoned it out with some 5mm o/d clear plastic tubing. I also used the same tube to rod out the passage between the rotor and the drain filter. And of course you can also blow through the tube to dislodge obstructions. How to siphon: Prepare by getting together a suitable length of tubing and a pan or bucket to drain into. Fill the tubing with clean water and pinch both ends between fingers and thumbs to prevent the water draining out. Insert one end into the drain hole in the machine and the other end into your pan, which MUST be lower than the Drawer bottom. Release both ends and the water should drain from the machine into the pan. Filling the tubing with clean water means you don't have to suck it to start the siphoning, however if it doesn't work first time and you have to suck, at least you won't get a mouthful of filthy dishwater, which is what would happen if you used an empty tube. PS: I am currently waiting for the serviceman to come back and fix my machine due to an F1 error code, but without the flooding that this is supposed to signal. He replaced the circuit board two days ago (second time in six months), tested it OK and now it won't start. Bother!

The hole that goes to the drain pipe ( or sink as described) has a small rubber flap in it which is a non return valve. If you poke whipper snippet coed or anything else in there you will damage it Best to remove the draws ( it’s quite easy) flip them over, remove the covers from below the tubs ( but tricky) and disconnect the drain hose and check it. You will see the non return valve in the hose coupling

The first diagnostics of any fix is the physical. So take off the draw, you will need something to rest it on it has almost no slack in the pipes. Open the plastic cover underneath, remove the outbound hose and blow down it. Watch out for the rubber valve. It should blow easily. If not you need to airline it or rod it. Do this towards the tub too as in this vid. Now you have eliminated all the free fixes before spending £100 on unnecessary parts. This has fixed mine twice. If you need advice on this, reply here.
