The Fisher Paykel Dishwasher (DishDrawer) is one of the easiest dishwashers to DIY troubleshoot, disassemble, maintain, and repair. See my complete interior DishDrawer disassembly here in just 4 simple steps:
1) Pull out the dish rack
2) Pull out the spray arm
3) Unlock, and pull out the chrome filter tray
4) Unlock the pump/rotor and pull out (note alignment of all tabs for reassembly)
Why do I love the Fisher Paykel DishDrawer? - It is so DIY friendly!
Once disassembled, it's also a good time to perform a quick cleaning. Simply wipe out the basin, rinse/clean the arm, tray, and pump, ensure the drain hole is free from obstructions, then reassemble! NO special tools needed, except your two hands! 👍
The dishwasher was making a terrible noise. video here:

Different solution - Nope this suggestion did not work. In my case water in the top drawer after running the bottom drawer. The fix is a small 1/2" round flapper valve in the drain hose that no longer worked properly and allowed water to run back down the drain line into the top drawer. Hired a plumber that used to be a authorized F/P repairman. Valve was $16 and took about half hour to fix. $110 total. Works great 3 months later. Hope this helps to diagnose.

I have a dishdrawer which is only a few months out of its 2 year warranty (lol). When closing the drawer, the mechanical toggle clips in the back receive the tub and work fine. But the drawer doesn't "suck" fully in flush... it's out by about 3 mm. I assume the machine uses electromechanical actuators to hold it fully in (compared to our other unit - it's why you have two Dishdrawers installed, for redundancy as one always fails). When we run a wash cycle, we can actually open the drawer during the cycle. I have inspected all hoses, they're fine. I have cycled the power. Upon cycling the power I can hear some actuators reset upon power up, but it doesn't fix the issue. There are no fault codes or beeps. This has me stumped! Fisher Paykel didn't offer any suggestions or let me talk to someone technical, which was rather frustrating being an engineer myself. Any clues?

Hello, any suggestions please - my top drawl is not pumping out water. Bottom Drawl is good. I have swapped the rotors around and it is not a rotor issue. Bottom drawl (good), test mid cycle -> power off -> pump turns on and drains water out. Top drawl(bad), produced F2 error. Water does not drain out, cannot hear pump being turned on compared to bottom drawl. Only way to get water to slowly leak out is to blow into the hose, also have had air pump from inside the drawl, no luck. Also have tried to use hot water as suggested to clean out any oil etc.
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 3 жыл бұрын
There is very likely some obstruction in the pump cavity. This is the small channel connecting the drain sump and the pump cavity - as seen in the video. Turn off the power/unplug. Grab a thin but rigid wire and clear this channel. Check to make sure the rotor turns free, and isnt frozen. Also check to make sure your drain hoses arent clogged or obstructed. Last, plug back in, this will also "reset " the machine. If it's still not working the only 2 items left are the rotor and control board. Best of luck!

Many thanks for your great video, however I have a different configuration of drawer. I live in Australia which may explain my not having exact same drawer. (your model s is same as my previous drawers) My problem is that when I strip it down completely, after removing everything, the bottom of the dishwasher has further set of small drainage holes in the casing of the drawer (not to be removed) except with special headed screwdriver. These holes are 50% blocked and I have a feeling this panel is not to be removed by me. I am worried that if it is 50% blocked like this in two years of use, in a couple of years, it will be fully blocked. From memory that water used to be extracted from side of small round filter opening..... I definitely do rinse dishes by the way..... Hope you can assist.....
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 2 жыл бұрын
hmm, I'm not familiar with that model, but I'd be curious to see if any of the maintenance instructions reference the additional set of holes. I'm pretty sure they are still part of the draining system, which could be cleaned with small brushes/pipe cleaners. Besides a failed pump, the main enabler of proper draining is making sure the drain port/hoses stay clear...

I have the same dishwasher two drawers from F&P. I managed to replace motor following your video but now there seems to be another fault of water leak ( Rinse is beeping red ), when opening top drawer water is leaking from bottom. Do you know what to try and resolve? Drain pipe and source pipe seem to be intact without holes.
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix Жыл бұрын
if the motor/pump seal was OK and the drain lines aren't cloghed/leaking, it might be a split in the plastic chassis (though uncommon). If it wasn't leaking prior to the motor/ pump replacement, I'd recheck that area and all connections. Also, make sure you didn't have an item too tall in for that wash that may have prevented the top door from sealing properly, amd water possibly escaping.

@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 3 жыл бұрын
@Sara F, hi is there a particular time when it is leaking - filling, washing, draining, etc? You may want to pull it out, check all the lines/connections. Also, always check to make sure that no dishes extend past the top of the diswasher sealing flange, otherwise it can warp the door upon closing and cause it to leak. You can also run the dishwasher if you pull it out and inspect where the leaks are originating from.

@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 3 жыл бұрын
@Creative Content 1) Water filling - is it still full of water after the rinse/drain cycle, and once the wash is finished? 2) The resistance - are you A) sliding the entire DW out and in and experiencing resistance or B) when opening and closing the drawers?
@creativecontent8919
@creativecontent8919 3 жыл бұрын
@@myoldhousefix I think the wash was almost complete until I heard the constant beeping. The water is still there about 5cm high. Yes sliding the DW in and out has resistance, about halfway is where the resistance begins but it still can be pulled out or pushed in fully. Lastly I cannot properly change the cycles with the buttons however I can stop the beeping by pressing the holding down the start button. Some things I know might have caused the problem, a few weeks ago a glass broke and I found shards inside the filter. Also I think I put in some kitchen utensils that were too tall for the DW.
@myoldhousefix

@@creativecontent8919 given the resistance pulling out and the constant beeping code, I would first check for a blockage or kink in the drain hose or hoses. Hi Britt, Im not a dishwsher tech, but im pretty familiar with ours and the few, simple components that are involved. Top one Id say its the control pad that needs replaced Bottom one, if you clean out the tubes and passage ways as shown here, and make sure the drain tubes arent obstructed, then its probably the pump. Is the pump making any louder noise than when new? The only water to remain is as shown in the video. How old is it? Have they ever been disassembled like this and deep cleaned?

@@brittmagadini5105 my bet is after 11 years, if the pumps are starting to get louder, there is debris and/or they are just reaching the end of their life and worn out. 11 yrs is pretty good for a plastic part in that environment of wet and heat 👍

Hi Susan, I think I can help. First, pull the drawer wall the way out. At the lower, front of the tub there are square tabs near the bottom - press the left and right side tabs while gently pulling forward and this will release the tub from the side rails. Finally, check operation of the rails (open/close positions), the drain hose guide wire, and make sure nothing was stretched out of tolerance, misaligned, etc. Reassemble and make sure the tub seats properly in the track and locking tabs properly snap back into place. When I remove the plastic filter, I have much more water that is still in the small reservoir. Thanks to your video I removed everything and it was a freakin mess in between the two sections. How can I make sure 100% of the water can evacuate correctly??

Mathieu, the top things to check to ensure proper water drainage are: 1) make sure to keep it clean under the top cover and pump area - clean as per video. And keep the removable filter clean. 2) make sure your drain lines have a "high loop" per install instructions - it keeps solids from clogging the lines 3) as a last resort, make sure your drain lines are clean end to end - disconnect, clean and verify no blockages. 4) you may have a failing pump if it's 6 to 10 years old.

@@myoldhousefix thanks so much for your answer it's really appreciated. Today I opened everything and disconnected the hose on the cabinet side. It might help, but there was still much more water. I guess I am now at the next step to disconnect the return hose under the drawer to see if there is something blocking. Is it possible the return is connected too high on my return pipes ? The return link to the pipes about in the middle of the two drawers. Thanks again for your help, Unfortunately I can't attach a picture...

@@mdesjardins that or the pump may be getting weak. Compare your hose connection height to the install manual and see how far off you are...

What do you do if the top drawer won't open?
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 6 ай бұрын
If it is "locked" like when the dishwasher is running, try turning off the power then see if it opens. You may have a bad door microswitch that tells the unit when to lock/unlock.

The rotor is stuck in the hole, how do I get it out
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 4 жыл бұрын
hi Christine, it has a twist/lock feature to lock in. If you have already turned it counter clockwise to unlock, pulled up to "shimmy" it out and it it stuck. 1) pull a little harder, as it my have some debris caught between the crossover tube and in the pump. 2) the pump may have come apart, and is now hung up a bit. Try to gently pry it up and out. Let me know if that works... 👍

Mine is not turning on at all? No power? Will I need an electrician?
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 3 жыл бұрын
Hi DK, if you can confirm power is getting to the dishwasher and it still doesnt work, there is an electrical issue with the dishwasher itself - board, circuit, etc... 1) is it on a dedicated breaker in your electrical box? Try resetting the breaker - flip it off and back on. 2) Where the dishwasher plugs in...is it a GFI plug? If so, try resetting it. Also plug something else into the dishwasher plug and see if it works. This should at least narrow it down to the electrical service or the dishwasher...

@@myoldhousefix Hi, Thanks for replying . The power button just will not turn on. I have ttied uaing other power outlets and its not that. There is an enclosed case its wired to and I havent unscrewed that. Would be good to show pics but unable on YT. But a screwed in small power box. Im guessing it contains fuses? I would say an electrical issue.

I'm sorry to hear that you broke your dishwasher. The pump/motor is simple to remove, but any part can be damaged if forced or improperly removed - by pro or DIY'er. Im not sure what your circumstances were, but maybe take a little more care and be a little more gentle next time?
