If you’re coming from a new garbage disposal make sure you are taking out the drain plug from your garbage disposal. I was wondering why it was doing this.

Thank you for your help! It pushed me in the right direction. I couldn't get anything out by snaking the air gap's drain hose, didn't try sticking my hand in the disposal because I was too paranoid lol. But what I did do was put a funnel in the air gap drain, pour in baking soda, white vinegar, and it did erupt a few times but eventually i heard the sound of something moving and then draining. for good measure i poured down boiling water, which it was able to drain successfully.

Thank you soooo much for this video and explanation!!! For the past 3 years, everytime we ran the dishwasher, water would come up through the vent tube and cause a leak underneath the sink. I never knew that the tube was designed for venting only and thought it was an overflow feature if too much water was being draind. I tried everything to contain the leak: tightening the tighteners, new gasket, plumbers tape, plumbers putty, etc etc...nothing worked! I've always noticed a huge kink in the black tubing but never thought that it would cause any issue since I figured water could easily flow through the small bottleneck. Boy was I wrong!! While trying to fix the leak again tonight, I stumbled across your video and immediately squeezed the kink to open up the tubing while the dishwasher was draining and immediately the overflow stopped. No more water on top which means no more leak on the bottom. Thank you soooo much!!! As a more permanent fix, I wrapped cloth around the tubing and put an automotive clamp around the kinked area to keep it open to allow for proper water flow. The cloth is mainly to protect the tubing since the sides of the clamp are sharp and could potentially cut the tubing so it was just an added precaution that I took. Thank you again!!

Thanks for all this information. I have a very nasty odor that is probably coming from my drain hose. I tried the foaming disposal cleaner, but no luck. Last time this happened, my appliance repairman pulled the black drain hose off at both ends and scrubbed it out (quite nasty). This worked great for about a year, but it is once again smelling bad. I am so relieved to learn that there are two clean out options from the TOP side. I am a senior and too old, stiff, and chubby to be able to access anything from underneath the sink. Your video will save me a much needed $90 (assuming of course that I can stand to look at all that black rotting gunk). I'd like to share a fix for the flattened hose. My hose likes to flatten out at the bend where it attaches to the disposal. The disposal is put in at a funny angle (front facing the back of the cabinet), and it looks like the hose should have been cut 2-3" longer. I used hose clamps to round out the hose. Unscrew them all the way open to get them around the hose, and then just tighten the clamp until the hose is round again. Just don't over tighten to avoid cutting into the hose. The first time, one did the trick, but this time I needed to add two more. At some point, I will have my guy replace the hose.

Yep, The hose clamps is a great way to get the hose round again.

This is an excellent video. It clearly shows the process I'll be going through. I made a major mistake with recycling, putting the plastic peanut butter jars in the dishwasher to clean before recycling; I'm sure that's why I ended up with problems. Is it possible for the water gushing from the air vent to also come out from underneath the sink? I'm not sure if this is a different leak altogether or it's just leaking from the top?

Thank you so much for this. Question...we first noticed leaking under sink (thankful we have that rubber mat to protect from water) and the white hose was wet but couldn't find a leak. Then it started shooting out the top so we knew there was a problem mostly coming off disposal. Something weird we noticed is these big black spots inside air gap hose. Possibly mold but can't figure out how. Not sure to run cycle with bleach or vinegar to clear out this hose or replace it. And not sure it's something I can do myself. Been doing dishes for 2 weeks by hand and ready to tackle this problem. Would love your feedback if you have ever seen black inside the hose. There are probably 30 spots the size of a quarter. People I talked to said they looked at their hose and have zero black spots. Mold is a problem and nobody wants that in their house. This house was built in 2015. Thanks for this video. I'm going to tackle this today. Just not sure where the hose is leaking or was it going up to the top and running outside the piece on counter and running down outside of the hose and why the water underneath the sink! Loved your video for this housewife who is getting to the bottom of this! Thank you so much for this video.
