Disney has officially announced the closure of their Star Wars Galactic Cruiser Hotel at 5000 for a few nights. This sequel trilogy themed 'experience' hasn't done as well as they probably imagined. Here are my thoughts on how to open an extremely successful hotel after this failure.
Thank you for watching today's video. I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you in the next one! May the force be with you, ALWAYS!

Disney should create an experience which gives the option to become a Jedi at a Jedi Temple, a Sith at a Sith Temple, or a Bounty Hunter at a Bounty Hunter's Guild School. Each will give a totally new and unique experience that will for sure make fans of all ages (especially kids asking their parents) to go to the next experience, which is a completely new price, rooms, etc. Encompassing all eras of Star Wars is the way to go. Please be inclusive, Disney, and let all Star Wars fans enjoy and in turn you will never have to shut down a bad idea again.

What's so mind-boggling to me is that as much as Disney markets themselves as such massive money-grubbing capitalists, they cut off 66% of their target market by using only sequel-trilogy-exclusive content themes for the hotel. On top of that, they blacklist people like Theory who can make content 1000x better than them with a handful of people and a notepad of ideas. And now it's going under. I couldn't have laughed any harder at this. Anyways, good luck speaking with your investors in your meetings on Monday.

Disney is losing a ton of money and it hasn’t been a good year past 2 years especially this past one. They’ve had to cut over 5.5 billion in spending, they’re laying off 7000 employees. They keep making lazy remakes with just a different skin color playing the roles, it’s actually insulting more then anything, can’t give minorities their own original stories. They have this 5k Disney hotel, crazy to think the average fan can afford that. They’re beyond so out of touch, they actually have been losing money on their Disney + subscription service.

Three hotel towers (example) Tatooine, Endor, Deathstar. All with various price points depending on how luxurious your room is. Each tower fully themed of course but also having its own unique star wars attractions e.g. Endor has a huge forest jungle gym, Tatooine has the original bar with the original band (animatronic or live actors) Death Star has a massive high class restaurant where Vader and the emperor stride through intermittently. I am but a pleb, imagine what actual fully fledged Imagineers could come up with. A one eyed monkey could come up with a better concept than Disney's so called "award winning" effort. Pricing mostly everyone out of a popular franchise, especially when it's aimed at kids who will NEVER get to see it thanks to the rip off price is DISGUSTING. Good riddance Galactic failure.

On another note: We went to Galaxy's Edge at Disney World this summer, and I have to say I was pretty bored walking around looking at stuff. It was sad to me, because I love Star Wars, and am an OG trilogy fan since 1977. They could have made this awesome and interesting. Meeting Chewie at Launch Bay and seeing the ship models was far more interesting to me than the Galaxy's Edge garbage. While the Resistance ride was loaded with uninteresting sequel trilogy stuff I had no interest in, the illusion of being transported off-world was very impressive. I enjoyed seeing the Millennium Falcon and riding Smuggler's Run. I got a big kick out of that. Sad story: I felt like Rey was only focusing on meeting with girls, and pretty much ignored any boys that wanted to meet her. My son was up next to talk to her and get a picture, she broke away from talking to a couple of girls, left my son hanging and walked to the other side of the section we were in to talk to a baby that wasn't in line to see her, and then she left. I felt bad for my son, and that really hurt me as a parent to know my son was ignored, but I flipped the script for my little guy and played it like he was protecting Rey from the First Order who was showing up shortly after. I guess the Force is Female at the parks.

We had a great time at the SoCal one. Going to do the Star Cruiser trip this Summer and I'm hoping it's even better. Don't get me wrong... Not a sequel fan. Force Awakens had promise and I think that's about where the park stops. Kylo is always masked and it doesn't get too cornball from what I've seen. I also can't stand what Disney has done to the franchise but since I first rode Star Tours, I dreamed of a "Star Wars land" and I saw it in a drive-thru AND indoors during the first re-release. I'm an OTF too, but Disney trips are what you put into it. Maybe I'm just simple, but I could nap next to the gonk droids and vaporators. That's MY type ASMR vibe.

I stayed there last June with my nieces. It wasn't really a hotel so much as it was like going on a cruise ship. We had a great time. They fed us. They entertained us with live music. They docked the ship and let us out to explore the mainland (Galaxy's Edge's Batuu). It should have been marketed as a cruise in the Star Wars universe, not as a hotel. We hardly spent any time in our room, which was small. It was just a place to sleep and shower. The biggest problem, as anyone and everyone will point out, was that it was based on the Disney sequels, which were demonstrably terrible. No Luke Skywalker. No Darth Vader. If they had themed this on the original trilogy it might have worked. There was an engineering room much like an escape room. They had a running storyline based on the First Order and, spoiler alert, Rey and Kylo Ren showed up. When I left I thought, "There's no way this will survive the test of time and I'm sure it will be gone in a few years unless they re-theme it." Long defunct Disney attractions take on a legendary status after they're gone, and I'm glad I got to experience this in all its glory and inevitable doom.

I think Disney's biggest mistake with this specific business venture was making the assumption that any demographic old enough to have that kind of money to burn would want to spend it on a sequel trilogy experience at all. Then they also assumed parents with money would just take their kids there when a cheaper Harry Potter experience is right next door to them. Like honestly, I'd really love to know who in their marketing team ever thought this would ever lift off the ground, it's priced at a 5 star hotel level experience while being a theme park for a child focused universe.

I definitely agree about the whole theme park. I think it should have been divided by time periods. The first land would be the prequels. With three different areas/planets. Naboo, Coresuant, and Camino. Then the Original trilogy, with Tatooine, Death Star, Hoth. Lastly the sequel trilogy or what ever they do next. I would also use the shows as a transfer between trilogies. You could have the Two separate experiences as an option. The rebels/light or the empire/dark. Here I would barrow from The old republic. With Jedi/Sith, solders/bounty hunter, and smuggler/agent. I also like what you said about the premium prices and suits, and the different themed hotels. Those are good ideas and should have been done from the beginning

Galactic Senate Experience (Become a Senator in the Senate Chamber) 4. Rebel Alliance Base Experience (Yavin or Hoth) 5. Star Destroyer or Death Star Experience (Darth Vader's Executor) 6. Bounty Hunters Guild Experience (Navarro or something on Mandalore) Create a hotel incorporating those 6 themes at realistic prices and it will generate insane amounts of cash and fandom hype. You don't have to build 'entire' structures, although that would be cool, but just elements to create the environment and proper atmosphere. Everyone would want to do it. Hotel problem solved.

What will make you more money long-term, creating a highly exclusive experience that only a select few can partake in or something priced to be more affordable? What was so difficult? Make a hotel, design and craft star wars decor. Stormtroopers statues, imp officer staff dress. Main foyer for arrivals looks like space port. Off foyer are Transition rooms, mini cinema/ride which 'transitions' you to your planet of choice (brief flight experience) - Kasshyk, Kamino, Star Destroyer/Imp Station, Coruscant. Room themes. Have another Transition when leaving hotel and outside can be mixture of environments, Tatooine, Kashyk etc. Transition rooms could double as Cinema or communal TV rooms when not being used. The only 'excess expense' in all of this is Transition rooms, which is why I suggest making them multi-use and prevent it pricing it out of the vast majority of your audience. There was nothing in the hotel which justified the price tag. Felt like they were trying to pay for the investment in first year.

Imagine having like a theme for your suite. You can choose any era. There’s a wall sized screen as a “window” and for whatever temperature you have the thermostat set to, it’ll go to a corresponding planet (I.e. prequel trilogy goes to Mygeeto if it’s cold, Felucia if it’s hot) and you can set it to randomly select a hot/cold planet from that era. As the fan kicks on, the screen shows you taking off and jumping to hyperspace. Maybe it lands you near a battle and you hear some ambient battle sounds in the background, or just the sounds of the local fauna.

Honestly, I don't think different settings or story lines would have made a significant difference. I think the biggest problem (besides the price) is that everyone always says that they want these "immersive experiences" because they want to be the kind of outgoing people that enjoy immersive experiences, but when it comes down to it, most people would prefer to be entertained rather than be a part of the entertainment. Personally, being pulled out of the crowd and asked to participate in something like that, does not sound enjoyable at all. The concept of a role playing experience itself (regardless of how well it is executed) creates such a big risk of spending all that money to have an awful time if it turns out you are not that kind of person. It is one thing to imagine you are a rebel pilot while doing something like fighting a battle in an x-wing simulator for 10 minutes, but something entirely different to feel compelled to act like a Star Wars character for nearly 48 hours. So you are already taking something that would by nature only appeal to a small audience and making that audience even smaller because of the price. Unfortunately, the labor required to run an operation like that probably makes better pricing virtually impossible.

disregarding the gargantuan cost of staying at the hotel, you could not possibly, and by possibly i mean; by every single calculation in all scientific reality known to man, create a fully immersive SW experience, by having one section of the guests go all in on (absurdly expensive/out of stock) costumes, immersion, and general geekery, while the other section was dripping with Disney merchandise (on hotel grounds) and pampered A++ hotel mentality, ready with their smartphones to capture every scripted moment in this funtime romp fanfare.

Maybe if Disney pumped aerosolized LSD/Marijuana throughout the hotel people would create their own realities which would be immersive enough for them. 🤣

Jedi/Sith temple is the EASIEST thing to make. There are already blueprints for it and it could even be Nickelodeon styled obstacles like hidden temple. Instead of being original, they went safe (again) but Star Wars is not safe. It’s groundbreaking and always has been.

They should've done themed destinations around the world. A Mos Eisely cantina/casino in Vegas. Cruise ships themed after the cruisers from ALL three eras. Like the top decks themed after Naboo. Rear section is Imperial while foreward is CIS or Rebel. IDK, its so obvious they really didn't care about SW fans. This was almost too easy to plan and yet the drop the ball....

The thing that ruined this the most was the price. 98% of people can’t afford a $4,000+ two night hotel stay and those who can won’t be going multiple times. That $4,000+ can be spent so many better ways. It’s a gigantic waste of time and money.

My bf kept circling back on going and my response was always, 'we can go to Europe for 2+ weeks for that kind of money!' I flat out refused to pay that. For 2 days, especially when they don't even discount the park entry for APs.

I think the concept is super awesome, I’d love to live there. I’ve always wanted to have a Star Wars themed house/room, BUT yikes… the price is just far too much. For 5K I could literally just buy the stuff I need to build a Star Wars themed room that looks like similar to that lol.

If it were OT/PT themed, it would’ve rocked. But since KK and Disney would have to pay George, not in the cards.

The price point is crazy I agree with that. The scope for repeat visits is also zero given it’s just one story in one time period. Star Wars in 2023 is still quite niche for the mass appeal this needed. That said I have not heard of a single person who has done this who hasn’t said it was an absolute brilliant experience. Rather than criticising from a far i would challenge you to go try it before it closes to get a personal experience of it. I would be surprised if you came out of it still thinking the experience “sucks” once you’ve done that.

The weird thing is I mentioned this for an assignment for my Uni course. The assignment was to make a presentation about Disneyland (one of the sub-categories was theme parks), so I decided to do it about Galaxies Edge and mentioned the Galactic Starcruiser and how expensive it and how it's not really a hotel but.... an experience. I just find it odd that I talked about it only for it to be set to be closed a few days after I completed that assignment. As for the Galactic Starcruiser on it own.... I feel they messed up with it, too much money, especially for those outside of the US, like myself, and the era I feel doesn't really suit it as I'm presuming it's set between TLJ and TRoS and I just don't think that's a great time to set it as there seemed to be a lot of conflict in that time. Where as I believe it might have been better to set it either during the Clone Wars (sure, there was a war going on, but people seemed pretty chill about it) or the Reign of the Empire? That way, they could keep their little mini adventures where a Rebel Spy is sneaking around avoiding Stormtroopers. I don't know. The overall idea doesn't appeal to me, but I definitely think they could have done better.

Went to Legoland in California many years ago. They had good package deals for the parks with buffet breakfast. The suites were different themes. They had multiple activities throughout the evening. One of the really neat things was a “scavenger” hunt to figure out the combination to a safe in the room that had a small Lego kit in it. I do not know what the Disney package included. The passes for the park are quite expensive per person per day. This would obviously be a factor of the price. What is the cost for a few nights at other Disney resorts? What is included in the package?

I feel like it simply could’ve been a Star Wars- themed hotel with cool stuff in it, characters, and a cantina restaurant priced like the other Disney resorts and they would’ve made a killing. And maybe if you stay there you get early or late night access to galaxys edge
