It's been over 20 years but honestly I don't remember Snow White waiting for a prince. I remember her being cast into the wild and making friends with people that were probably shunned by regular society. And I remember her making friends with all the animals and even welcoming the evil witch (which most people would shun). Snow White was already the perfect princess - she took negative situations and said how can I make this work in a positive way?

1932 Disney put all their eggs into 1 basket. A movie called *SNOW WHITE* If it had failed, Disney would not exist today. They should not change anything about it. Oh, their choice of Snow White is taking one person culture and using it for another one.

She wasn't actually saved by the prince. She was saved by the hunstman who let her go free in the woods and didn't kill her. Then she was brave and resourceful when she ran through the woods, then found and cared for the little men. She and the prince found each other in the middle of this. They can tell a story of her strength and bravery AND have her find love. They're not exclusive.

The thing is, because this Rachel person has shown her attitude and mentality so clearly in her interviews, it will be very hard for the audience to ever see her as the sweet, demure, humble, kind-hearted character of Snow White. It will feel weird and fake when she tries to act out these characteristics in the movie, because we all know how distasteful and egotistical she actually is.

So the actors with dwarfism, constantly struggling for work because of their niche role category, _still_ get the middle finger from Disney. What a class act Disney is. 🙄😑

Honestly it’s so weird they would think in these binaries about love and relationships as contradictory to leadership and forming an empowered identity as a woman. I can think of a million possible ways to depict finding true love in a way that honours women’s struggles, powers and unique perspectives. I can think of a million possible ways to depict true love as a partnership between equals based on mutual respect, and as a support system for women to accomplish great things in life. As a feminist who’s dated men and is married to a man - finding a way to overcome harmful societal stereotypes about relationships and crafting our own vision of a healthy one - has been one of my greatest feats as a woman and a deeply healing process. I could not have done that without my husband doing the work with me. We could not have done it without true love bringing us together. In such a contradictory way to my lived experiences as a woman, Disney’s view of feminism sounds like a two dimensional stereotype of an old men-hating hag who’s hyper focused on “leadership” and “courage”, not as they are uniquely defined by herself for herself, but as these values are viewed and crafted by male-lead spaces in society. It’s absolutely not empowering to real women and girls. Go watch the Barbie movie!!!

Originally Disney replaced dwarves with hobos to avoid offending stereotypes. Then they go and make CGI dwarves that are based on every possible stereotype 🤦‍♀️

Some of the backlash with the dwarves was little people actors being denied roles yet again and not having complex characters written for them to play. I don’t think cgi is fixing that

The problem was the fact that the movie took away roles that could have been played by little people. Making them CGI does not fix the problem at all! It just makes it feel like Disney doesn't want to acknowledge little people even more, refusing to give them roles and instead making them CGI like they're mythical creatures that don't exist in the real world.

I'm pretty sure Disney pulled a Sonic here and generated outrage to create a redemption arc. Kinda genius. The movie was never gonna be like what everyone thought they were seeing.

In 1988, George Lucas found an entire cast of short people to play short people in a village for Willow. A whole village. Can Disney NOT do that again for 7 short people? How hard can it be?

They needed to cut their losses and shelve this one. It will cost Disney, more in reputation damage, and realised financial losses, to release this product. We have realised Disney as a brand is both toxic and anathema to actual entertainment. This sentiment cannot be reversed in less than a decade. Even when bereft of options, we will choose no entertainment to bad entertainment. Disney has many billions in losses to realise before they will comprehend this.

But half the problem with the Dwarves was the fact that little people weren't getting work lol.

The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Repunzel (sp?) and even Snow White are all stories about strong women who defy authority and make their own way in life and happen to find love along the way. None of them are weak characters, they never were, and the stories dont need to be re-written because they were already strong women who stood in the face of danger and overcame adversity. If people cant see this in the original stories, then they are blinded by their own stupidity.

What do you mean by "the leader she knows she can be"? She becomes the QUEEN at the end of the original story. Of two kingdoms (the one the prince is from and her father's, unless there was some other heir hidden somewhere). She was always a leader, just in the context of a different era.

They obviously wanted a darker actor with blonde hair to play the princess with skin as white as snow... and hair as black as coal
