You know why Snow White was dreaming of true love? It was because she received none from her stepmother The Evil Queen. The Evil Queen showed absolute cruelty to Snow White, and it was her own jealousy that drove her desire to kill Snow White. So of course Snow White would want someone to love her wholeheartedly.

Same thing with Cinderella - she dreams of true love because she receives none of that from her stepmother and stepsisters for the entirety of her life after her father died.

And none of them begged or waited on a prince to save them. Snow White's love she gave to the Prince and the Dwarves is what saved her life. Cinderella waited to find a moment to escape her cruel life but she did it the honest and right way, plus she got to know tye Prince and did not know he was a Prince until the next morning. Her friends she cared for wanted her to escape and they did just that.

@@kingandrewcecil348 Though Cinderella didn't even dream of true love... She dreamed of a fun night out. Which tbh, is pretty sad. Not escaping her step family, not a happy life, not marrying into the royal family... Just one single fun night, one night free of her abusive family, dancing the night away inside the palace she sees every day through the window. And then it would be back to her normal crappy life, with no end in sight. Afaik only Snow and Aurora (day)dreamed of love. Well, Ariel also dreamed of love, but only after getting her first crush while she was exploring her dream of finding out more about humans.

@@MsLilly200whats crazy is that desiring love is,, pretty natural and normal for teenagers. i was a HUGE romantic read all the fanfics and played all those cringe dating sims and i found fun in fantasizing about love before ever experiencing it. but recently its really been feeling like disney wants to shit on the notion that girls desire love and affection and that its “cliche” or “unfeminist” to have a female lead that acknowledges romance and its just kinda strange, a lil unintentionally degrading to girls that fantasize about love i feel.

For the actress to think that since Snow White is a soft, gentle, kind, and skilled in a lot of domestic work person and not a cruel, badass, calculated, girlboss and Snow White being such makes her a disappointment to all woman to the point needed fixing is problematic in itself. Woman don’t have to be this crazy iron-fisted leader in order to be valuable as woman. Woman can be soft and gentle like Snow White, or just ordinary and regular people like in Barbie. The problem isn’t “snow white becomes cool leader”, the problem is thinking “since snow white isn’t cool leader, she is a failure of a woman”. To think she needs fixing just because she fits certain woman stereotypes is a problem this whole “badass girlboss no nonsense leader” narrative has made.

True. I'm already sick of this feminist ideology. Which is basically to pervert the natural order and to make women insufferable. I'm a man, and even I don't spend my time dreaming about being a leader or boss. I dream about finding my true love and getting married and having a family. But it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a woman who hasn't been infected by feminism, and who actually dreams about having a family too

If you truly want to tell a new story with snow white, focus on her relationship with the dwarfs, focus on how she and the prince built a romance, focus on her relationshio with the evil queen before her parents died or why her parents died, why is the queen jealous of a child and how deep is that wound that she turns to murder as a solution. Show sides of the story we haven't seen before. Show the deep messages in it that was limited to be developed more because of the lack of tecnology in animation (of the original) or surface level interpretation that other live action remakes had through the years

And the ironic thing is... Disney already did that. The story of Snow White in OUAT is actually a very intersting, more modern, twist of the original that still has a lot of respect for the original story. The romance with the prince is fast, but belieavable, her relationship with the Evil Queen is complicated, but without fully making the Queen redeemable (at least at first), the dwarves are funny and you do get the sense that they love Snow White and will fully support her, and Snow White herself has the compassion and kindness that characterizes her, but she's also a leader and a badass when needed. If Disney wanted to make a good remake of their original story, they really should've looked at OUAT for inspiration.

I suspected it was because they were trying to make up for racism and controversies in previous/older movies (for example the Native Americans in Peter Pan or the Siamese cats in Lady And The Tramp) But now I see it's pretty obvious they're only doing it for the money/brownie points, they're constantly casting people of colour as older, white characters which I don't have much of a problem with, but the fact that they don't bother to make new, well written characters of different minorities really rubs me the wrong way.

I think it is appalling and utterly revolting that Peter Dinklage decided to complain about Dwarfism representation and told Disney to cut the dwarves and keep him as the only little person. Is he too demented or just too famous to realize there are thousands of actors with Dwarfism that could play the dwarves appropriately and possibly better than Dinklage ever could? It's disrespectful and even more disrespectful because Dinklage is turning against his own people to boost his stardom

@@frankieseward8667 exactly. They may not be what modern feminists think is a "worthy woman" but they were damn impressive for the times of the movie releases and the settings of the stories. They didn't "do nothing and just get helped by guys", they did have interests and it was their stories not the men's. Also the prince's did waaaay less and had less personality, Philip was the one who was the "damsel" not aurora as he was kidnapped and actually in danger, aurora was in danger for literally like 1 minute because Merriweather changed the spell so she wouldn't die. Yet feminists only hate when women are "not the right kind". Same reason they complain about Barbie, Bratz, Monster High, shopping, makeup, and pink being bad influences on children yet say nothing about things aimed at boys like He Man, GI Joe, Superman, Pokémon, and Ninja Turtles.

"She's not going to dream about true love, she's going to dream about being a leader" Hey, did you know? That you can do both? I'm getting so tired of people looking down on teenage girls dreaming of finding The One when it's actually very realistic! The animated Snow White was 14! Ariel is 16! Teenagers think about love and romance a lot because a new and exciting world has opened up to them! I'm getting so tired of this "you can have a boyfriend OR you can be a girlboss" mentality. WHY NOT BOTH?! These movies are basically saying "if you're not an independent girlboss who doesn't care about love at all and doesn't need any help ever, especially from a MAN, then you're a failure as a woman." These are not empowering, these are cruel, mocking and gatekeeping. You can empower women AND have them yearn for love at the same time. If you want to write about a "badass independent girlboss" then WRITE AN ORIGINAL MOVIE???? The Snow White story is literally about Snow White, the queen and the dwarves. It's not about being an "amazing leader", it's about an insane woman so vain, she gets jealous of a child. Stop taking existing stories and mangling them so they don't resemble the original anymore at all. They don't care about adapting Snow White, they care about brownie points. Except they chose the WORST story to change the ethnicity of the main character. What kind of an insane person looks at a character named after her pale skin and goes "we should make her tan"?? Her name doesn't make any sense anymore!! I'm not against race swapping but ONLY when it makes sense. Changing Snow White's skin color doesn't make sense.

I would've liked it for this remake to give Snow more beautiful white features, she can have white hair, or a white dress, you could even make her blind and have pure white pupils, I think it'd be interesting to see a love story play out between a prince and a blind princess, plus it adds more to the diversity aspect since it gives more representation to blind people!

I'm so tired of people saying that the Prince from Snow White is a creep for kissing Snow White when he thought she was dead. People act as if he put his tongue down her throat while she looks like a regular corpse. Maybe I'm just more comfortable with death because of my upbringing. There's a European tradition that you would kiss dead people goodbye. You would also wait with a dying person because dying alone was one of the most horrible ways to die. In Poland, you would spend three days with the dead body of your relative in the house so family and friends have time to say goodbyes. We even have pictures of family members in coffins, so we could remember them.

Are some people living in that poor of a condition or are they just that uneducated and dumb despite having access to tools for learning? Like why aren't they seeing that we need to be more faithful to certain descriptions of the chracters? bruh, i lived in the town where Snow White originates from (Lohr am Main) and you don't know how DISGUSTING it is, that they had to literally change the race of this character just because 'Oh it's a brown girl, brown girls are a trend now and we can get good points from the black people and we can prove we are not racist' well, changing a characters ethnicity to make it 'more suitable for a certain audience' is literally racism and has happened multiple times before where black characters were switched with white ones. Disney have ruined one of the most treasured peices of media for me. As a feminine gay boy I've always held Snowhite dear to me because of the romantic parts. I've never felt romantic feelings the way most people do but I still want it. Snowhite was such an inspiration and model to me because the story tells me that I have to work for what I want in life (freinds, a roof, love) and that sometimes you can't always solve everything and you need to ask for help. Now that it's gone from the plot and she's telling everyone that "love is bad" she's basically insulted me for something normal I do. Why can't we ever have an ACTUAL feminist whenever we have a female lead? (Cinderella 2015 was assertive, kind, playful, and stood up for herself like in the original. Or how Elle Woods used her "girly knowledge" and femininity to help solve the case)

There’s not even a clear way to describe the dynamic between the dwarves and Snow White, but there doesn’t need to be. I agree with you but as a natural ginger, not many of us care about our roles being given to other colors/races/hair types. We're overrepresented already thanks to ginger tropes like the Redheaded Heroine and Redheaded Nerd. Little actors do and should care about their roles being erased/replaced by average-height actors because those roles were never there to begin with, while us redheads kind of suffer from an overabundance of weird representation already (Weasleys, anyone?), so having those roles re-cast aren't really a big deal, at least to me.

I find Walt Disney's passion when it came to making this film really so inspiring. He just really believed in himself and his story and he truly earned the success of his company. I love Snow White, the original, and I always will. I won't be watching the live action next year, I'll stream the original instead. I hate how Zegler is disrespecting the original movie, character and Walt Disney's very legacy. Also, you can be feminine, like Snow White, and that doesn’t mean you aren't a strong female. Real strength lies in femininity as well, and also the right to choose what kind of woman you will be. It's okay to be girly, and that doesn’t make you weak.

The original Snow White film may be basic story-wise, but it is so unbelievably beautiful, innocent and heavenly in everything it does relating to pure aesthetics. Florian's Castle in the Heavens, the yearnful, bitter-sweet melodies in the love songs, etc... it all comes together in a fairy tale as adorned and ornamented as a gothic cathedral. I was astonished when I first saw it now as an adult, and even though the later Disney films are more fleshed out, I have to say that none of them come off as grandiose and stately as the first one ever. And that's saying something because the later films are great too. This remake feels more like a parody, and I can't help but just laugh at how sad and ironic it all is.

So to pander to those that say Disney princess line up is too white, they just make an already existing princess a poc instead of making an individual true poc character. It’s insulting 🤷‍♀️ For the rest, they clearly haven’t understood the core or the message of the source material 😑 Which makes them look lazy and ignorant. A woman does not have to reject love and romance in order to be able to be strong 😑 Such an outdated notion. A woman can be strong and still be girly, want love, want to be domestic. It is not becessary to want to be a warrior, be a leader, have a career as the only way to be perceived as strong 🤷‍♀️ You know what is the best selling book genre in the world? Yup, romance 😝

Snow white represents selflessness, kindness, friendship and her true beauty from with in. She befriends nature, the forest creature and latter the dwarfs. The Queen represents vanity, selfishness and envy, Her true inner ugliness is manifested by her transformation into the old women (her true self) and is latter defeated by the dwarfs, animals and nature because of their friendship and love for her. At the well Snow white tells the doves (The viewer) that the well is a whishing well and she makes a wish for her true love "I'm wishing for the one I love, to find me today" and magically her true love appears at that moment. When they both sing their songs they are showing each other their inner beauty through song. and share a kiss through the proxy of nature by the dove. Rachel Zegler comment about prince charming stalking snow white is totally lost on her, Nor is It about power and being a leader, its about kindness and the value of friendship. And prince charming is the manifestation of her "true love" wish. Its a fairy tell, meant to be simple to understand but Rachels inner self has turned it into something ugly, like the Evil Queen.

If we let Rachel hurt our opinion as actors as a whole, we get closer to seeing Disney's reasoning to not give raises. (beyond the obvious CEO profits)

Honestly every time Rachel speaks, she’s disrespecting the entirety of Disney… Snow White isn’t some “outdated cartoon from the 1930s”, it is THE first ever full-length animated film in full color to reach a nationwide audience. In my opinion, it’s already empowering because it’s not only the first full-length animated film, it also has a female main character, and female main villain! Snow White is also not stupid or weak, she’s as strong as she can be in her position, she’s incredibly empathetic and clever, she’s kind, she’s caring towards nature and animals. She was weary of the old woman with the apples, but she had no reason to believe the woman had any ill intent, and Snow also had zero clue that apples could be magically poisoned. The prince was also not a stalker, he simply saw Snow and fell in love. Snow also fell in love at the beginning, too. I will say, yes, that’s a sign of the 1930s, the whole love at first sight thing (although the film does take place in like the 14th-16th century), but a live action remake could absolutely write further into that, maybe make it so the prince and Snow have some sort of previous relationship where they know each other, that would be absolutely fine. Also, the live action could’ve just had the dwarves, and show the seven dwarves being hard-workers that helped to save Snow in her time of need, they learned that there are people out there that don’t judge them and will treat them equally and kindly, and once Snow is with the prince the dwarves could have the opportunity to do more in the world, or they can have the option to remain in the cottage and forest. There is potential to make Snow White progressive, while still keeping it loyal to the original- like Cinderella, and even Maleficent, in my opinion both of those movies are wonderful and were loyal to their originals, but they added onto the stories and made the stories flourish even greater with all of the potentials that we are able to give now that we are in a modern era. Just… Snow White is honestly a forward movie, when you look back at the time and the accolades it received. Everyone who has made the live action remake what it is so far and the awful PR probably has Walt cringing in his grave.

When I watched Disney Channel UK's video about Sofia Carson unboxing merchandise from Descendants 2, I knew the ironing was delicious because the actress who played Evil Queen's daughter in the Descendants trilogy cares more about the legacy of Walt Disney Animation and Snow White than the actress who played Snow White in next year's live-action remake of her with the Seven Not-Dwarves. I already made two videos that explain why Descendants is good at remaking Disney's animated fairytale characters in live-action for the same audience that liked the original animated versions, while still forging its own path with a new generation of characters in the same years when Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy failed at that.

We know it works. Lion King 2019 is the highest grossing film of all time and their were plenty of people hating it. Mulan was a scandal and a half and it still made bank. 8:54 i absolutely hate this argument because it shows she likely has not watched the original. Snow White was at the end saved by a prince, but throughout the story she was doing stuff on her own and she wouldve died [or other outcomes] way earlier if she wasnt as smart / hardworking or whatever. Snow White earned being saved by the prince, it didnt just happen to her. (I feel like i do have to add that the way she is inevitably saved by being kissed by a man she doesnt really know is odd, but they can improve that.) Implanting the idea into young girls' minds that they shouldn't dream about falling in love is bad. We need to show more girls that they can be leaders and such, but girls are allowed to fall in love and to be happy. We don't see Snow White's thoughts, but considering she was not treated very well, she likely wasn't just thinking of a prince and she wanted freedom. That's probably why she was so happy just in the cottage with the dwarves, no prince attatched. TLDR: Snow White *was* being a leader and earned her prince at the end. Also, girls shouldn't be taught that they aren't allowed to want things that'll make them happy (love or other things). Im ngl i paused the video then wrote this and it turns out aldone basically says the same thing right after. Whoops

Someone should really send this video to Rachel. Honestly, I think she’s capable of growth and admitting she was wrong. She’s young, she was being told by the writers and directors and producers how amazing the new script was and that this Snow White is “a new type of princess” (which is basically the same exact kind of princess we get post-Frozen where they have to insist they’re independent and girlbosses who want to rule the kingdom). She probably didn’t hear ANYONE currently working at Disney Studios actually tell her about the significance and merits of the classic Snow White. It’s sad but… legitimately, I could see modern Disney being that incompetent and cocky to think they can do better and should ignore the past After all, this is the same studio that made Peter Pan a villain who aged out of the wholesome Disney child star role and his life went downhill… ignorant to the fact that his original voice actor did just that to tragic results. Past Disney (even up to the early 2000s) wouldn’t have made these kind of blunders.

I keep hearing how Zegler being "Latina" somehow means her casting as Snow White is a race swap. It's not. First, Latino/Latina is not a race. It's not even an ethnicity. It is, at most, a collection of cultures that share a common language and some geography. Being Columbian is not the same as being Mexican. Or Puerto Rican. Or Guatemalan. Or Venezuelan. And so on. Second, she's none of those things. She's American. She was born and raised in New Jersey. Her father is Polish with some German and Italian in the mix. Only referring to her as Latina because her mother was from Columbia is nonsense, and it marginalizes her paternal heritage. Third, if one insists on putting a racial label on her, then she's "white." Her ancestry is Eastern European on her father's side and South American & Spanish on her mother's. And, there could even be some additional German blood in her as Germans have been migrating to Columbia since the 1600s. She's more "white" than anything else. Being Latina, a cultural label, doesn't change that. Her birthright is European more than any other region of the globe. She's not Scandinavian or Germanic white, but so what? She's got more of a Southern European look to her. Her skin color is due to her Moorish blood as it is anything else. So, some North African and Arabic along with indigenous South American. Nothing a little makeup couldn't handle. This is not a race swap, no matter how little value people place on Zegler's European ancestry or her father's Polish heritage.

She had her life spared from a man who tried to kill her, got lost in the dark and scary woods, overcame that fear in a song to comfort the animals, gets led to a cottage of what she assumes are orphan children, cleans the place for them in exchange of letting her stay (even teases grumpy!). And her downfall? Overly trusting; Tries to help some poor old woman even after being warned, and gets poisoned for it because she's a dreamer and made a wish on a "wishing apple". The prince saves her, sure. But like, he's the B-plot. The moral of the movie isn't that you can do anything girl power, or falling in love solves everything; it's to be cautious of strangers. Plain and simple. Sorry for the long comment.

Personally... I don't care all that much if Disney wants to re-imagine Cinderella as super white blond (she's originally Italian, so mediterrain heritage), Little mermaid as black (originally Danish story, so rather white), Princess from princess and the frog as American black (Also originally a white princess in the fairytale), it won't change the story what so ever but Snow White is where I do have a problem. One of her defining characteristics is a rediculously white skintone. Added to that she also usually is mentioned to have a blackish hair to even further highlighting her whiteness. It's a moderate part of her story, so eraising that leavs me rather baffled. If they wanted to bring forth a latina princess in remakes, Cinderella should really have been the one origin wise. Or why not give her an original story, one that highlights her heritage or rich modern culture? So lazy..... I'd love to see more cultures represented as princesses and princes in Disney films (and toys, since that's the main target anyway), not just colour spapping and genderswapping bunch of characters, making the main girl a rebel girlboss and screaming "Diversity! Representation! Feminism!" at anyone who gives them the time of the day. Wouldn't horrybly mind some more european culture representation either, especially slavic, mediterrain and german. @@kingandrewcecil348 it is a fact that women have weaker neck muscles than men of even equal size. This is a big problem in domestic abuse cases because when a man strikes a woman in the head, like he would another man, it is possible they can break their necks. Even when that was not the man’s intention to paralyze or kill the woman, just one punch can and has cost a woman their life. When you see heavyweight boxers or UFC fighters strike each other in the head, it can jerk their neck, which is what causes a knock out when the head snaps back too quickly and causes the brain to smash against the skull cavity. Even in men this can cause concussions, but if that boxer hit a women it can cause death. I fear we might see such horror now that they’re allowing biological men to compete against women in many sports now, even at the high school level. That will backfire on them the day the first unfortunate girl is seriously injured in a life altering way, or is out right killed.

I can’t understand why the prince has to be removed. The biggest problem for his character was that he had barely any screen time, and with good reason. The prince was originally going to have a bigger role in the original Snow White, with him being kidnapped by the evil queen after he refused to marry her. However, his subplot was cut after the animators couldn’t properly animate a male character like him. If this live-action remake cared enough, it could have reused the prince’s story thanks to not having the technological limitations as in the 1930’s, with the added bonus of a potential organic girl boss moment for Snow White in that she’s the one who manages to save the prince. It’s so annoying, especially since the other live-action remake don’t remove their princes (with the Cinderella remake and arguably the Little Mermaid remake expanding upon their princes).
