I make origami, and that taught me very quickly to let go of any preciousness about what happens once paper products are out of my hands. I’m very much like you: I enjoy the process of making, and my act of showing I care is in the making and giving. If my nieces want to cut them up with scissors, have at it, kiddos. I’m never hurt or offended by what people choose to do with the card once it’s given. They’re not throwing away paper, not my love. Now, do I keep nigh unto every card I’ve ever received? Yes. I feel really guilty about throwing those away! The human mind is a labyrinth of contradictions and quirks.

Amen sister…I view giving the same way and have had that convo almost verbatim. Lol I say the same thing about buying and giving a gift. I try hard but I give freely. If they don’t like it or don’t keep it, it’s on them not me. Great cards

AMEN!!! I so agree with you and have had the exact same conversation with my own husband 1000 times🙂 I tell my husband that God has called us to be our brothers keeper and to try or best to try to meet their need... but it is NOT for us to determine what that need(s) might be! Rather, I/we are to give unconditionally and with an open hear! Besides, who am.. that I should decide what THEIR need might be (a drink, a cigarette, or a fix)... there but by the Grace of God, go I.... so whatever that need might be, is between them and my Heavenly Father 💖

I purchased a stamp from I believe Magnuson Stamps that is actually a poem about sending the card you made on to someone else. It's a sweet poem that I stamp on an extra piece of cardstock and sign. It has definitely made others smile!

I was one that said "Noooo!" about your BIL tossing your stunning card, but it was because I saw how complicated it was to create and it made me sad to think he wouldn't give that a thought. And I'm glad he did. But on the other hand, when I send or give a card, I don't worry about what the recipient does with it, because it's now theirs. So I guess I'd feel the same if I were in your shoes. And I love your thinking about giving money to homeless folks. These are beautiful cards, Kelly and a tool like the crystal katana makes a world of difference when creating with dies. I have started making Christmas cards year round because I detest the stress I create for myself by waiting until the last minute. But I certainly agree it's more fun when it's cold outside and the holiday season is close at hand. Thanks for another wonderful video!

Trifecta of loveliness! Thank you for all the blending tips. The pops of color with the dies truly propel these to the next level. I am completely on board with your card giving philosophy. The joy for me is in the creation. Sometimes more than in the giving. What happens after the recipient opens the card… 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t really even think about it because I am on to the next card. I so enjoy your videos!

I don’t even celebrate Christmas and I just loved the cards. It doesn’t bother me if someone tosses a card I made for them. I have learned to be very picky about who I give a hand made mini album to because a lot of people have no idea how much work went in to that album. I generally don’t give money to people. One reason is that I rarely have cash on me. The other is that if they are hungry I will pick up extra groceries while in the store and have them put in another bag. Or going thru McDonald’s buy en extra meal to give to them. One guy came up and asked for gas money. I told him that I didn’t have cash but that I would meet him at the pump and pay for his gas. He wasn’t interested in that. Thanks for the video and the demo on blending.

Such a great video and such great discussion about giving. I used to be a voracious knitter. I would knit 8 hours a day. I also felted like a fool. I gave away everything. I don't think I have but maybe one thing I made during that period. I was knitting that way for over 8 years so I had knit a lot of things. I didn't care what they did with them. I, like you, did it for me. One day I actually made a detailed scarf for my mailman that only knew 1 month before he retired. I know he didn't know what he really received but it didn't matter. It made me feel good. So I get it. I just wish I had creative vision when it comes to card making. I don't have it. I can make cards that are inspired by others, but I can't make one that makes sense (in color), from my own brain. Just the way I was made I guess. So, after this long winded post, I am grateful for people like you that give me the inspiration to CASE your cards. :)))

Lovely cards! Thanks for sharing all the great tips for ink blending! I feel the same as you about my cards. Once I give them to their recipient, I have no problem with what they choose to do with it. I hope they keep it for as long as it brings them joy to look at or have, but I have no expectations. For me, it’s about the giving and showing the person that I care about them through my craft. My creative journey and joy in making it is for me. Everyone feels differently about this part of our craft, and I respect that, but I found it funny that you referred to your way as being a selfish card maker. I see it as the opposite. While I fully respect their feelings and am not judging, to me, it’s more of a selfish viewpoint to expect the recipient to keep the card forever; it’s more about the card maker, less about the recipient in that mindset. So I found it interesting that you view it the way you do. ❤

Yup! Same here! I make cards & scrapbooks for ME!! Yes, I make them & give to other people. I don't gmhave children so I have no one to leave this stuff to other than nieces & my nephew. Will they want them? Who knows! Lol I'll be gone! My husband asks me all of the time "will anyone know how much time you spent on these cards?" I tell him "I don't know & I don't care. I craft for ME." I have the cards that friends have made me hanging in my craftroom 😊! A Kelly Taylor card would be treasured & probably framed & kept forever or at least until it passes onto my nieces anyway 😂😂😂 Love your cards, techniques, coloring & real-ness!!❤

I make Christmas cards year round. I just ordered 3 Spellbinders Christmas kits and have 1 I haven’t started yet. I just finished making 300 cards this past week and a half for my mom. She was out of cards and likes the Anna Griffin cards so I used all the pieces I had left from previous kits to make her the cards. I don’t get the being mad if someone throws away a card. I’m not making cards for accolades. I make them because I enjoy it. Yes! Calms my anxiety. It’s therapy. I am so like you with the donating of money or items. So many people get so worked up about what their money would get used for. You should not be putting stipulations on the person you are trying to help. This is just my opinion. I have a friend who went on a rant about it. I politely steered her in the right direction by telling her to get Dollar Tree gift cards. . Give those out. This way you always have one on you and the person can get food or drink, personal hygiene items, socks etc. She really liked that idea and I feel better knowing that she’ll be able to continue helping people. Love your cards.

Merry Christmas in July! Very nice cards! I’ve got to locate your video from last Christmas when you did Grandma’s Christmas tree. It reminded me of old time cards. I have my mother’s stuff from her apartment when she went into a nursing home. She had Alzheimer’s and also had a tendency to aggressive behavior. The cards I came across recently had the names of people I remember from childhood. A lot of them contained a narrative, since letters were written then (not texts), lol. I save cards I get also. There are some that I get inspiration from for the cards I make. As quickly as I dropped the foam blenders for the brushes, the did give a very rich blend that the brushes don’t as well as some forgiveness for uneven blends at the lowest levels that you started blending.

I am the same as you what happens to my cards once they have been given is up to the recipient but I am selective with some cards and who I give them to ones I have spent a lot of time on do go to people that know how much time I put into them but again if they throw them then that’s ok. I keep and have kept nearly every card I’ve received since I was about 7 so have a beautiful collection to look back on. I also put an insert that I write my message on in my cards with a note that it can be removed and the card sent to someone else- have been doing that for years now

You’re hilarious. Great cards, as usual. I feel very vulnerable on the street (I’m disabled) and loathe it when people approach me asking for things. Actually, I’m like that on social media too: fine if you’re on your wall saying “this is what I’ve done/am doing” but don’t dm or @ me asking me for money. A few times on the street I’ve looked at the person then I’ve taken, for example, a guy into a cafe and bought him something hot to eat and drink on a cold day. His choices. Another time a woman wanted way too much for a train ticket and was carrying on but she wasn’t convincing. I told her I’d walk with her to the train station and buy her the ticket she wanted. Suddenly she needed to go to the toilet then, as I continued on my way, she started crying and wailing at the next person walking down the street. Often I’ll chuck a few dollars in a busker’s hat but, early one evening when it was well below freezing and hardly anyone was around, I walked up to a busker, gave him $20 and told him to go somewhere warm to get something to eat and drink. From his reaction I doubt he did, I reckon he stayed there in the cold and wind for a while longer, but I did what I could to help. I like to think of my cards having longer lives than just “oh that’s nice, bin”. However, in my mind, the best life for them once people have finished with them as cards, is as bookmarks. I’d be really happy to see a card of mine poking out of a book. It’s one of the reasons I’m reluctant to use gems and pearls on cards although I do sometimes. Obviously the lovely layers cards and novelty cards - like pop ups - are unlikely to be useful as bookmarks, but it is something I consider when making cards generally. (And, as a result, impulse bling purchases are stacking up. AND, if I’m going to be REALLY HONEST, I think part of it is I struggle with placement of gems and pearls.)

Great tutorial on ink blending. I understand better now the importance of overlapping and going through the colors twice. Totally agree 100% about the giving of money or help to someone in need. So many friends have asked me if I worry people might be scamming me and I tell exactly what you said. I’ve done my part in good faith to try to help someone in need, if they are dishonest in that need, that isn’t my business to worry about.

But watching them go in the trash, OMG it just did something to me.... I didnt say anything. I will be a bit wiser this year.

I am there with you, I make cards for myself. More than just that, I am a minimalist, I don't give my husband cards because that would mean we'd have to keep them forever. I take a picture for keepsake memories and move on and don't store "stuff" but he feels like he has to keep them. I don't want to obligate people to keep cards if that isn't their thing.

Wow. Lovely cards. I give things away that have taken me many hours to two hours etc. I find them in the trash…. Makes me sad. I, also, give cards with just a piece of vellum to write on. They can take it out and pass it on. I write a note to that effect so IF the throw it away it wasn’t my fault.

Gorgeous cards!! I'm with you, I have a very hard time making Christmas cards in July. I'm in Texas & it was 108 degrees a couple days ago. If you have time to answer, which white glitter cardstock did you use? Ever since stampin up retired theirs years ago I've searched high & low for one that is truly white. Sometimes I'm fooled in videos & it's not as white as it appears when I very it. What I mean is that it doesn't have all the Iridescent colors in it when you see it in person.
