I think I have watched this 30x in the last 24 hours.......going for 31 in about 9 seconds.....

I rode the flying horses carousel many times as a kid but had no idea this song was about it. Just recently, Chad played a concert on the island and explained the story to friends, family, and locals, and I was lucky enough to be there. Those memories, and this song, seem so magical now.

The drummer's backing vocals are perfect. Great compliment to an already great voice in the lead singer.

the first time I heard this song was when a busker was playing it right outside the flying horses in o.b. he comes back every summer and plays it just before he leaves on the boat

Tim O, that is awesome you rode the carousel this great band is singing about. This song also a parable with deep meaning just like many of their other great work. The girl he pursues mentioned in the first verse "she was the prettiest girl I ever saw, the stone lay still without a flaw, the feelings I had defied the law" (lust) and then in the second verse how '"cause that stone fell through my pocket and that lock of hair flew away with the wind" (Proverbs 31:30)

They were such a great band

There is a merry-go-round on Martha's Vineyard (Massachusetts). They have rings hanging down on ropes that you grab on the way around on the horses. Chad wrote the song before forming Dispatch, and it is the first song he ever played for Braddigan.
