Trust me when I say they don't care. previous employer actually had the head of the State Commercial vehicle inspection program come out and shit on me during a safety meeting about refusing to operate illegal equipment. @@floridaman964. For a lot of reasons really, but the main ones are inconsistent home time, long hours paid by the mile with a lot of uncompensated time or underpaid hourly rates, pervasive culture of unsafe working conditions and/or being pushed to operate equipment which was not safe or road legal, the general disrespect from the public towards trucks on the road, and the constant push from companies to force all the liability onto drivers.
@Bendigo1

Don't say you don't feel comfortable. Say it is unsafe/illegal to haul in the condition it is in. And send it in writing via text, email or other means. Just saying you don't feel comfortable makes it sound like you just don't feel like hauling it, and someone else can haul it. Saying it is unsafe/illegal makes it the company's responsibility to get it fixed before anyone hauls it.

Dispatchers, the truck driver's worst enemy. Shippers loading up sketchy loads aren't the half as bad as being on a call with a dispatcher questioning every move you make. I've had the, "Are you here conversations?" The other conversation I've had, "Ok I wasn't aware you had a CDL.", or "Who has a CDL here?" That usually makes them back off. Benefits of being a Union Truck Driver.
