What if the reason Most Uchiha end up going crazy is because the Sharingan memorizes traumatic moments such as when Obito Saw Kakashi kill Rin. His sharingan was activated thus engraving the image in his brain making him unable to forget the traumatizing event, Psychologically scaring him for life

I disagree on one point. After he sees Rin killed and kills all those othe ninja, he says one very important sentence: "I'm in hell" He can't believe that a world that would do such injustice to Rin and has Kakashi kill her can be real. To him that's just not possible. So the only explantion left is that he died and this is hell. This is why he has no problems with killing people. It's just saving them from hell.

There is definitely a fallacy of sunk costs here for Obito. Similar to Walt from breaking bad, Obito knew that once he started down that path, if he were to turn back, all of the necessary sacrifices (Minato for example) would have been for nothing. In order to make the death and destruction he caused have meaning, Obito became obligated to see the Infinite Tsukoyomi through to the end.

What interested me about Obito was that he was an untalented UCHIHA. Throughout the series we were told about how Uchiha's were always super talented, but here comes Obito being the ugly ducking. I feel like he wasn't made fun of by just his classmates, but the majority of the Uchiha clan as well. He was constantly being looked down on for shaming his clan. It would also expand on why he would assist Itachi in the Uchiha massacre.

Let’s take this moment to realize that Obito achieved something no other Uchiha has done before, not even Madara. People who think Obito just had a “crush” on Rin are gravely mistaken as he went from having two of those sharingan pupils to the mankeyko. That’s something no other Uchiha has done in the series, which shows that Obito loved Rin more than anything.

I actually loved that he got to meet Rin. The whole idea that the land of the dead is a real thing, is wonderful. And the fact that he was able to return from the middle plane to save Kakashi was awesome too.

I mostly agree with you here as well. But I disagree a little bit on the middle part of his journey, that is, the psychotic "there is only despair!" Obito. I think he had just stopped caring about the world's thoughts and desires. I don't think he seriously thought everyone just hadn't realized they wanted to be in the IT but he just didn't care about what they wanted. I don't think he was foolish enough to believe that "every death was necessary" as he often did things that were malevolent and based on his own mindset. This leads me to a point that I think a lot of people miss about him. Obito, with all his talk about it, wanted everyone to know what true despair was(similar to Nagato's "pain" ideals). He wanted people to experience the same despair that he felt, and thus see things the way he did. I think that played a large role in his actions that he committed throughout the series and influenced his thought process as well. Other than that, I pretty much agree with what else you said about him. Good video, and now that we're on the topic of tragic characters with complexes of "helping" the world. Do you plan on doing a dissection of Nagato as well?

If you think about it obito had the most potential out of everyone in the series. Think about how strong Madara, has Hashirama, Indra, Tobirama, Minato, Naruto, Kakashi, and Sasuke were at the age of 14. Sure some of them were really strong but none of them were powerful enough to full on attack the leaf by themselves, 1v1 and beat minato, and make Kurama his bitch. Had he trained instead of following Madara's plan he could've surpassed Madara imo.

Another fantastic dissection. I'm newer to the channel and going through all your videos and I'm glad you did this one because I feel the same way about Obito. Obito's story is so incredibly sad and to people that hate him it comes down to a clear misunderstanding of him as a character. After the series of events he went through he was NEVER the same after that. Couple that with how many years as a recluse with no one who loved him around (during his most formative years might I add) and he became completely diluted psychologically.

Finally someone is realizing that Obito's character is more from a men in his 30 that is obsessed with his first love!! GOD, I love Obito , he is my number one from the Naruto Series and I thought it was obvious why he turn to the "evil" men he is >~

i feel like they made obito the way they did for 1 main reason. that being, this is what would have happened to naruto had he held on to the hate he felt for the world. i mean as children, they're basically the exact same as stated in the video. so its safe to assume that if, naruto had went evil, (so to say) he may have very well taken a similar path to obito.

The Sharingan is really an amazing ability. A person's stats in the databook could be abysmal but as soon as they awaken that Sharingan an Uchihas cap is at least jonin level and we see Obito go above that with Mangekyo.

Anime fanboys don't like it when anime characters act like characters. They prefer simple one dimensional characters that are incredibly bland. Any character with depth is too complicated for them and they just put them in the "emo" category. Also Obito seeing Rin in the afterlife doesn't ruin anything it makes it even more powerful.

The first reveal that Tobi is more than what he seems is one of my favorite scenes. I watched the English dub and am a huge fan of Neil Kaplan, to hear his voice shift so starkly when he drops the act was practically terrifying and then the reveal of his sharingan and a vanish that would make the cheshire cat jealous

The graceful juxtaposition of Naruto and Obito, and its implications, are some of the most powerful things I've seen or read in media.

Obito and Sasuke are one of the best characters in the whole series, they're complex and polemical at the eyes of viewers just due to a steps of misunderstanding and bad reading comprenhesion. Sometimes this fandom deserves to burn in hell for having such blind close minds when they direspect the characters like that.

Most people still don't realice what's Rin for Obito. She was not just his childhood crush or something like this. She was his ultimate friend who was alwayy there for him since he could think. Everytime he was on the ground she helped him up and motivatet him. What she was for him was much more than most people who are in a relationship for each other.

Obito is my favirote naruto character and I hate seeing people hating on him. Thanks for this video to prove to people that Obito is a better character than people take him for.

Obito reminds me of all kind ideologues who are broken by the cruelty of the world. These people are the kindest souls before their breaking point, but the cruelest and most relentless after. He was sent to heaven probably because the writer of the story sees himself in obito. That no matter how cruel you were to everyone for destroying your ideology, that you can redeem yourself in the end.

favourite character of the show, maybe alongside nagato. he got killed off by bad writing in the very end( i dont necessarily disagree with the talk no jutsu being effective, it just doesnt convince me after all he had done. he was probably the most "off shore" character in the show, too far from good to turn back. the big point is at 8:00 , the question if his will has to be broken and if it makes sense. knowing the show well enough i knew it would break and seeing the emphasis put on the rin-kakashi-obito flashbacks it does make sense as a conclusion,, but id rather had him be a badass till the end. so im not questioning the decision directly, but the way his character was handled within the past-present context. and talk no jutsu just got annoying as shit), but before it was kinda the same with sasuke in terms of decision making, except the annoying shit that obito didnt have attached to him or his actions/dialogue. imo the way he was built into the show, the slow buildup , his masked appearance and all that was very well done, he was a fucking badass. not saying that he wasnt badass when he came to the final realisation, he was just a better bad guy than good guy

I'm from Indonesia. I know I'm very late, but I just want to thank you for doing such an excellent analysis on probably one of the most underrated character in this manga/anime series. It's just really sad of how even most/majority of the so-called "Naruto fans" failed to even understand how deeply tragic AND realistic the Obito character is. He is even my most favorite character of all in this Naruto series, because of his deeply & psychologically complex (just as you've said) background story & character development. I can even relate a LOT of Obito's tragic story, because of how deeply very realistic his story is (& which also portrays the harsh, cruel, & cold reality)

I don't really understand why you dislike the idea of Obito going to heaven with Rin, it was a heartfelt, genuine Réunion that showed us that deep down Obito is still that very kid that wanted the best for everyone. I dont understand why that version of him isn't allowed to achieve happiness
